Comprehensive study on the spatial distribution of heavy metals and their environmental risks in high-sulfur coal gangue dumps in China

The accumulation of coal gangue(CG)from coal mining is an important source of heavy metals(HMs)in soil.Its spatial distribution and environment risk assessment are extremely important for the management and remediation of HMs.Eighty soil samples were collected from the high-sulfur CG site in northern China and analyzed for six HMs.The results showed that the soil was heavily contaminated by Mn,Cr and Ni based on the Nemerow index,and posed seriously ecological risk depended on the geo-accumulation index,potential ecological risk index and risk assessment code.The semi-variogram model and ordinary kriging interpolation accurately portrayed the spatial distribution of HMs.Fe,Mn,and Cr were distributed by band diffusion,Ni was distributed by core,the distribution of Cu had obvious patchiness and Zn was more uniform.The spatial autocorrelation indicated that all HMs had strong spatial heterogeneity.The BCR sequential extraction was employed to qualify the geochemical fractions of HMs.The data indicated that Fe and Cr were dominated by residual fraction;Cu,Ni and Zn were dominated by reducible and oxidizable fractions;Mn was dominated by reducible and acid-extractable(25.38%-44.67%)fractions.Pearson correlation analysis showed that pH was the main control factor affecting the non-residue fractions of HMs.Therefore,acid production from high sulfur CG reduced soil pH by 2-3,which indirectly promoted the activity of HMs.Finally,the conceptual model of HMs contamination at the CG site was proposed,which can be useful for the development of ecological remediation strategies.

Succinylation is a highly conserved post-translational modication that is processed via enzymatic and non-enzymatic mechanisms.Succinylation exhibits strong effects on protein stability,enzyme activity,and transcriptional regulation.Protein succinylation is extensively present in the liver,and increasing evidence has demonstrated that succinylation is closely related to hepatic metabolism.For instance,histone acetyltransferase 1 promotes liver glycolysis,and the sirtuin 5-induced desuccinylation is involved in the regulation of the hepatic urea cycle and lipid metabolism.Therefore,the effects of succinylation on hepatic glucose,amino acid,and lipid metabolism under the action of various enzymes will be discussed in this work.In addition,how succinylases regulate the progression of different liver diseases will be reviewed,including the desuccinylation activity of sirtuin 7,which is closely associated with fatty liver disease and hepatitis,and the actions of lysine acetyltransferase 2A and histone acetyltransferase 1 that act as succinyltransferases to regulate the succinylation of target genes that influence the development of hepatocellular carcinoma.In view of the diversity and significance of protein succinylation,targeting the succinylation pathway may serve as an attractive direction for the treatment of liver diseases.

Prevotella and succinate treatments altered gut microbiota,increased laying performance,and suppressed hepatic lipid accumulation in laying hens

Background This work aimed to investigate the potential benefits of administering Prevotella and its primary metabolite succinate on performance,hepatic lipid accumulation and gut microbiota in laying hens.Results One hundred and fifty 58-week-old Hyline Brown laying hens,with laying rate below 80%and plasma triglyceride(TG)exceeding 5 mmol/L,were used in this study.The hens were randomly allocated into 5 groups and subjected to one of the following treatments:fed with a basal diet(negative control,NC),oral gavage of 3 mL/hen saline every other day(positive control,PC),gavage of 3 mL/hen Prevotella melaninogenica(10^(7)CFU/mL,PM)or 3 mL/hen Prevotella copri(10^(7)CFU/mL,P.copri)every other day,and basal diet supplemented with 0.25%sodium succinate(Succinate).The results showed that PM and P.copri treatments significantly improved laying rate compared to the PC(P0.05).PM treatment increased(P<0.05)the mRNA levels of genes PGC-1βand APB-5B at week 4,and ACC and CPT-1 at week 8.The results indicated enhanced antioxidant activities at week 8,as evidenced by reduced hepatic malondialdehyde(MDA)level and improved antioxidant enzymes activities in PM and Succinate groups(P<0.05).Supplementing with Prevotella or succinate can alter the cecal microbiota.Specifically,the abundance of Prevotella in the Succinate group was significantly higher than that in the other 4 groups at the family and genus levels(P<0.05).Conclusions Oral intake of Prevotella and dietary supplementation of succinate can ameliorate lipid metabolism of laying hens.The beneficial effect of Prevotella is consistent across different species.The finding highlights that succinate,the primary metabolite of Prevotella,represents a more feasible feed

Uncontrolled growth of lithium dendrite will lead to low Coulombic efficiency and poor cycle stability,which hinders the commercialization of lithium metal batteries.Herein,a novel modified lithium anode with reduced graphene oxide conductive network containing trace lithiophilic phosphorus(P-rGO/Cu)is prepared by electrospraying technique combined with heat treatment process.The rGO layer has a concave and undulating conductive structure,which can significantly improve the effective electrical contact between lithium metal and the current collector,speed up the kinetics of interfacial electron transport and reaction,and improve the resistance of the negative electrode to the internal stress caused by volume change of the lithium,which is advantageous for the stability of the SEI film.The extremely small and uniformly distributed red phosphorus element avoids the volume change caused by lithiation to the maximum extent.Lithiophilic two-phase compound Li_(3)P obtained by alloying P with Li can directionally induce the homogeneous nucleation and dense deposition of lithium metal,address the issue of lithium dendrites and extend the cycle life of the batteries.The obtained P-rGO/Cu exhibits excellent electrochemical performance with an average Coulombic efficiency(CE)of 98%at a current density of 1 mA·cm^(−2) for 400 cycles,and the capacity retention rate of the full cell matched with lithium iron phosphate(LFP)is 83%after 400 cycles at 1C.

Paradoxical herniation associated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy after decompressive craniectomy: A case report

BACKGROUND Whether hyperbaric oxygen therapy(HBOT)can cause paradoxical herniation is still unclear.CASE SUMMARY A 65-year-old patient who was comatose due to brain trauma underwent decompressive craniotomy and gradually regained consciousness after surgery.HBOT was administered 22 d after surgery due to speech impairment.Paradoxical herniation appeared on the second day after treatment,and the patient’s condition worsened after receiving mannitol treatment at the rehabilitation hospital.After timely skull repair,the paradoxical herniation was resolved,and the patient regained consciousness and had a good recovery as observed at the follow-up visit.CONCLUSION Paradoxical herniation is rare and may be caused by HBOT.However,the underlying mechanism is unknown,and the understanding of this phenomenon is insufficient.The use of mannitol may worsen this condition.Timely skull repair can treat paradoxical herniation and prevent serious complications.

Enhanced solution to the surface-volume-surface EFIE for arbitrarymetal-dielectric composite objects

The surface–volume–surface electric field integral equation(SVS-EFIE)can lead to complex equations,laborious implementation,and unacceptable computational complexity in the method of moments(MoM).Therefore,a general matrix equation(GME)is proposed for electromagnetic scattering from arbitrary metal–dielectric composite objects,and its enhanced solution is presented in this paper.In previous works,MoM solution formulation of SVSEFIE considering only three-region metal–dielectric composite scatters was presented,and the two-stage process resulted in two integral operators in SVS-EFIE,which is arduous to implement and is incapable of reducing computational complexity.To address these difficulties,GME,which is versatile for homogeneous objects and composite objects consisting of more than three sub-regions,is proposed for the first time.Accelerated solving policies are proposed for GME based on coupling degree concerning the spacing between sub-regions,and the coupling degree standard can be adaptively set to balance the accuracy and efficiency.In this paper,the reformed addition theorem is applied for the strong coupling case,and the iterative method is presented for the weak coupling case.Parallelism can be easily applied in the enhanced solution.Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed method requires only 11.6%memory and 11.8%CPU time on average compared to the previous direct solution.

Bioleaching and biosorption behavior of vanadium-bearing stone coal by Bacillus mucilaginosus

The recovery of vanadium(V)from stone coal by bioleaching is a promising method.The bioleaching experiments and the biosorption experiments were carried out,aiming to explore the adsorption characteristics of Bacillus mucilaginosus(B.mucilaginosus)on the surface of vanadium-bearing stone coal,and the related mechanisms have been investigated.After bioleaching at 30℃ for 28 d,the cumulative leaching rate of V reached 60.2%.The biosorption of B.mucilaginosus on stone coal was affected by many factors.When the pH value of leaching system is 5.0,strong electrostatic attraction between bacteria and stone coal promoted biosorption.Bacteria in the logarithmic growth phase had mature and excellent biosorption properties.The initial bacterial concentration of 3.5×10^(8) CFU/mL was conducive to adhesion,with 38.9%adsorption rate and 3.6×10^(7) CFU/g adsorption quantity.The adsorption of B.mucilaginosus on the stone coal conformed to the Freundlich model and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model.Bacterial surface carried functional groups(-CH_(2),-CH_(3),-NH_(2),etc.),which were highly correlated with the adsorption behavior.In addition,biosorption changed the surface properties of stone coal,resulting in the isoelectric point(IEP)approaching the bacteria.The results could provide an effective reference for the adsorption laws of bacteria on minerals.

OsbZIP53 Negatively Regulates Immunity Response by Involving in Reactive Oxygen Species and Salicylic Acid Metabolism in Rice

The basic region/leucine zipper(bZIP)transcription factors play important roles in plant development and responses to abiotic and biotic stresses.OsbZIP53 regulates resistance to Magnaporthe oryzae in rice by analyzing APIP5-RNAi transgenic plants.To further investigate the biological functions of OsbZIP53,we generated osbzip53 mutants using CRISPR/Cas9 editing and also constructed OsbZIP53 over-expression transgenic plants.Comprehensive analysis of phenotypical,physiological,and transcriptional data showed that knocking-out OsbZIP53 not only improved disease resistance by inducing a hypersensitivity response in plants,but also regulated the immune response through the salicylic acid pathway.Specifically,disrupting OsbZIP53 increased H2O2 accumulation by promoting reactive oxygen species generation through up-regulation of several respiratory burst oxidase homologs(Osrboh genes)and weakened H2O2 degradation by directly targeting OsMYBS1.In addition,the growth of osbzip53 mutants was seriously impaired,while OsbZIP53 over-expression lines displayed a similar phenotype to the wild type,suggesting that OsbZIP53 has a balancing effect on rice immune response and growth.

Polynomial-Time Assignment-Based Cell Association with Generic Utility Functions

Cell association is a significant research issue in future mobile communication systems due to the unacceptably large computational time of traditional schemes.This article proposes a polynomial-time cell association scheme which not only completes the association in polynomial time but also fits for a generic optimization objective function.On the one hand,traditional cell association as a non-deterministic polynomial(NP)hard problem with a generic utility function is heuristically transformed into a 2-dimensional assignment optimization and solved by a certain polynomial-time algorithm,which significantly saves computational time.On the other hand,the scheme jointly considers utility maximization and load balancing among multiple base stations(BSs)by maintaining an experience pool storing a set of weighting factor values and their corresponding performances.When an association optimization is required,a suitable weighting factor value is taken from the pool to calculate a long square utility matrix and a certain polynomial-time algorithm will be applied for the association.Comparing with several representative schemes,the proposed scheme achieves large system capacity and high fairness within a relatively short computational time.

An optimization method for shale gas gathering system-Consideration of reliability enhancement under earthquake-related uncertainties

Shale gas gathering systems are of great importance in gas fields for the efficient and reliable transportation of gas.In traditional design methods,pipeline layouts are optimized only from an economic point of view,where reliability is evaluated after optimization.However,reliability can be enhanced by spare pipelines so that both economic and reliable aspects are evaluated simultaneously.Based on the idea of enhancing reliability,this research proposes a methodology for optimizing the pipeline layout problem including well clustering,stations site selecting,and piping.Different topology arrangements and spare pipelines are investigated to enhance the production efficiency and reliability of the pipeline network under earthquake-related uncertainties.Reliability evaluation is converted into an economic one so that the objective of this work is to minimize the total annual cost.To solve such a complex problem,genetic algorithm,K-means algorithm,Geo Steiner algorithm,Kruskal algorithm,linear programming and Monte Carlo simulations are combined.A real-world case study illustrates the effectiveness of the proposed methodology and shows a 36.53%reduction in the total annual cost compared with the initial scheme.
