Wave Energy Assessment Along the Moroccan Atlantic Coast

The aim of the present work is to assess the offshore wave energy potential along the Atlantic coast of *** works of this paper focus on the identification of the most energetic sites for wave energy converters(WECs)*** this purpose,11 sites have been explored;all of them are located at more than 40m depth on the Moroccan Atlantic *** wave power at each site is computed on the basis of wave data records in terms of significant wave height and energy period provided by theWaveWatch three(WW3)*** indicate that the coast sites located between latitudes 30°30′N and 33°N are the most energetic with an annual average wave power estimated at about 30 kW?m^-1,whereas,in the other sites,the wave power is significantly ***,the study of the monthly and seasonal temporal variability is found to be uniform in the powerful sites with values four times greater in winter than in *** directional investigation on the significant wave height has shown that for almost all the powerful sites,the incoming waves have a dominant sector ranging between Northern(N)and Western-Northern-Western(WNW)directions.

In search for new antioxidant agents derived from 6-azauracil, the spiro-5-(flurin-9’-yl)-6-azauracil 3 and their N,N-disubstituted-6-azauracils 4 - 17 have been synthesized using various methods and reaction conditions. Structure of the new synthesized compounds was deduced from elemental analysis and spectral measurements, for example IR, 1H/13C NMR and mass spectroscopy. The antioxidant evaluation of the new targets showed that the activity increases in the order of 8 > 10 > 6 > 7 > 9 in comparison with 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and ascorbic acid as standards.

Gastrointestinal(GI) diseases comprise a large spectrum of clinical conditions ranging from indigestion to inflammatory bowel diseases(IBDs) and carcinomas. Endoscopy is the usual method employed to diagnose these condition. Another noninvasive way to assess and diagnose GI conditions are fecal biomarkers. Fecal biomarkers provide information regarding a specific disease process and are perhaps more acceptable to clinicians and patients alike because of their non-invasivity compared to endoscopy. Aim of this review was to evaluate the current status of the fecal biomarkers in clinical and research for in GI diseases. Multiple types of fecal biomarkers are discussed in this review including; markers to assess IBD, which are released as a results of an inflammatory insults to intestinal epithelia such as antimicrobial peptides(lactoferrin) or inflammation related proteins(calprotectin). While markers related to function of digestion are primarily related to partially digested food or mucosal proteins such as abnormal amount of fecal fat α1-antitrypsin, elastase and secretary IgA. The upcoming fecal biomarker like M2 pyruvate kinase and neutrophil gelatinase associated lipocalin are discussed as well. Apart from above mention, the fecal biomarkers under exploration for possible clinical use in future are also discussed. These include cathelicidins, osteoprotegerin, β-glucuronidase, Eosinophil proteins, etc.

Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is a grave illness that results in cognitive and social issues.A recent study examined the association between neuroimaging results,cognitive dysfunction,atypical cellular immune function,and poor prognostic factors in AD patients who demonstrated poor *** prognosis was associated with abnormal cellular immune function,extrapyramidal symptoms,altered consciousness,abnormal electroencephalogram,modified Rankin scale,increased neutrophil lymphocyte ratio,and severe *** impaired cellular immune function characterized by a reduction in the blood T lym-phocytes’proportion predicted poor prognosis as an independent risk factor in *** initiation and maintenance of AD medications is associated with better outcomes.

Malaria is hyper-endemic in Somalia and remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality, especially vulnerable groups such as old people, pregnant women, and children under five years. The prevalence of the disease is the highest along the rivers, settlements in southern Somalia, with artificial water reservoirs, where there is a year-round transmission. About 80% of malaria cases in Somalia occur in the Shebelle and Juba river basins. Outside of the malaria-endemic areas, it is estimated that 87% of Somalia is at risk of being exposed to malaria epidemics. According to a recent KAP (knowledge, attitude, and practices) survey, less than 10% of the households have Insecticide-treated mosquito net. This cross-sectional study was conducted to describe the factors affecting utilization of Insecticide-treated net among households with children under 5 years in Hodan district. The study was all adult households (more than 18 yrs.) with five years. A total of 50 respondents were interviewed during the period of data collection. A structured questionnaire dealing with socio-demographic characteristics, household’s knowledge about the Insecticide-treated net and availability and ownership and uses of Insecticide-treated net were used as data collection instrument. Results were presented in frequency tables and graphics. The majority of respondents indicated that 30 out of 50 (60%) have Insecticide-treated mosquito net while 20 out of 50 (40%) do not have it. The main reason for those who do not have Insecticide-treated mosquito net they did not able to afford it. Knowledge about malaria and Insecticide-treated mosquito net importance, the majority of respondents (92%) believe that there is a great benefit to use Insecticide-treated mosquito net for a reason to protect them mosquito bites. 20 (40%) were primary education and they didn’t know the causes of malaria (38 out of 50, 76%). The contamination of drinking water in Pakistan is a serious threat to its citizens. Urbanization leads to an increased demand of drinking water supply that leads to excessive drawdown that further causes lowering of water table. The current WASA (Water and Sanitation Authority) supply network does not fulfill the demand of a growing metropolitan city of Lahore. The drawdown of Lahore is absolutely reliant on Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) water supply network that causes numerous problems due to inappropriate management of groundwater capital and increased urbanization. This research investigates groundwater qualities: Alkalinity, Arsenic, Calcium, chloride, Total Hardness, Magnesium, Nitrate, pH and Total Dissolved solids using geographic information system (GIS). Residents of high concentrated towns, like Samnabad Town, Allama Iqbal Town, Gulberg, Data Ganj Bakhsh Town, Ravi Town and Wahga town witness cut-down of water supply mainly due to over burden on tube wells. Chemical properties of drinking water show that most of the parameters were within the allowable limits of WHO whereas the pH, and arsenic values are higher than the average. Arsenic is a carcinogenic element which causes cancer and is higher in the drinking water. Finally, this study identifies highly contaminated groundwater zones and makes it convenient to find actual pollutants. Therefore, plans are needed to protect the aquifer.

Background: Medical Equipments are designed to aid in the diagnosis;monitoring or treatment of medical conditions. Upgrades in technology also help continuously educate healthcare professionals. Where previously the use of devices like “mercury sphygmomanometers” is common place, they are now being replaced by either aneroid or “mercury-free” devices. It indicates the development of technology in this area. However, trends show that healthcare professionals still seem to trust “old school” equipment a lot more. Thus, it would be motivating to see why healthcare professionals have such engraved perceptions regarding medical equipment and to be able to investigate their knowledge about current medical devices and what their thoughts are on new technology available in this area. Objectives: This research is designed with an aim to gauge perception and knowledge of targeted HCPs on the risks, benefits, issues, usage and perception on the difference between older medical equipment and the newer ones with state of the art technology available in the market. Methods: A cross-sectional study using a 34 item questionnaire was used to survey a convenient sample of nurses, pharmacists and doctors across community practices in Ajman and Sharjah, UAE. Conclusion: Discouraging HCP’s from a long standing bias towards certain brands may lead towards better therapeutic outcomes for patients. Also, comments from HCP’s prove that HCP’s in these Emirates really do care for their patients and overall improvement of the health care industry.
