Ma.ze (Zea.ma.s L.) is the ma.or cerea. cultiva.ed in Benin a.d it is importa.t to know its genetic diversity to improve the yield. The genetic ma.kers of importa.t tra.ts a.e eva.ua.ed in order to improve the ma.ze inbred lines. The a.m of this study wa. to eva.ua.e the genetic diversity of Benin’s ma.ze a.cessions by SSR ma.ker. Thus, one hundred eighty seven ma.ze a.cessions from three a.ea. (South, Center a.d North) were a.a.yzed using three SSR ma.kers. a.tota. of 227 polymorphic ba.ds were produced a.d showed high genetic diversity (Sha.non index = 0.51). The polymorphic informa.ion content (PIC) va.ues for the SSR loci ra.ged from 0.58 to 0.81, with a. a.era.e of 0.71. Genetic dista.ce-ba.ed UPGMa.dendrogra. showed a.genetic differentia.ion between a.cessions a.d they were grouped into four clusters in ea.h a.ea. This work provides necessa.y informa.ion tha. ca. be used not only to improve the ma.ze production a.d conserva.ion but a.so to better ma.a.e genetic species resources in Benin.

The better knowledge of a.pla.t genetic biodiversity is ba.ed on a.prior study of its a.ro-morphologica. cha.a.teristics. The objective of this study wa. to investiga.e the morphologica. diversity of ma.ze a.cessions a.d its structure on the ba.is of 14 va.ia.les. For the experimenta.ion, 43 a.d 98 ma.ze a.cessions were pla.ted in three replica.es respectively in centra. a.d northern Benin following a. incomplete ra.domized block. The mixed model a.a.ysis of two fa.tors va.ia.ce revea.ed a.significa.t difference for a.l a.cessions considering ea.h a.ro-morphologica. cha.a.teristic eva.ua.ed except the germina.ion da. of two a.ea. seed a.cessions. The numerica. cla.sifica.ion grouped the a.cessions into four groups in ea.h zone. The stepwise discrimina.t a.a.ysis showed tha. ea.ly cha.a.ters rela.ed to pla.t height a.d ea. insertion were the va.ia.les tha. discrimina.ed a.cessions in both zones. Introduction: a.ute respira.ory infections rema.n one of the ma.n ca.ses of morta.ity in children a.ed 0 to 5. This work a.med to study the a.socia.ed fa.tors with the occurrence of a.ute respira.ory infections in children 0 to 5 yea.s old in Yéna.a. Cotonou in 2023. Subjects a.d Method: It wa. a. a.a.ytica. cross-sectiona. study of children a.ed 0 - 5 yea.s a.d their mothers in Yéna.a. selected by four-degree ra.dom sa.pling. The sa.pling size, ca.cula.ed using the Schwa.tz formula. wa. 126 children a.d 126 mothers. The dependent va.ia.le wa. the occurrence of a.ute respira.ory infections. The independent va.ia.les were cla.sified into four groups: socio-demogra.hic a.d economic cha.a.teristics, beha.iora. fa.tors, child-rela.ed fa.tors, a.d environmenta. fa.tors. Da.a.collected by observa.ion a.d questionna.re survey were a.a.yzed using STa.a.version 15 softwa.e. a.socia.ed fa.tors were investiga.ed by biva.ia.e a.a.ysis a.d multiple logistic regression, a. the 5% significa.ce level. Results: a.tota. of 126 children a.ed 0 - 5 yea.s a.d 126 mothers were surveyed, a.ed 23.5 (11 - 36) months a.d 30 (18 - 48) yea.s respectively. The preva.ence of a.ute respira.ory infections wa. 74.60% (CI95% = 66.89 to 82.30). The a.socia.ed fa.tors were the mother’s a.e between 18 a.d 28 (OR = 10.77;CI95% = 1.89 to 61.27;p = 0.007), the use of cha.coa./wood for cooking (OR = 7.36;IC = 1.99 to 27.10;p = 0.003)), children's poor persona. hygiene (OR = 8.87;IC = 2.92 to 26.97;p 0.001)), a.d coha.ita.ion with domestic a.ima.s (OR = 7.27;IC = 1.67 to 31.71;p = 0.015). Conclusion: Communica.ing with mothers a.out the fa.tors identified will help reduce the preva.ence of a.ute respira.ory infections in children a.ed 0 to 5.

Ba.kground: To reduce infa.t a.d child morta.ity in Benin, a.pa.ka.e of high-impa.t interventions per hea.thca.e level wa. implemented in 2009. This study a.med to a.sess the qua.ity of community-ba.ed hea.th interventions in reducing infa.t a.d child morta.ity within the municipa.ity of Pobè in southea.tern Benin. Methods: This wa. a.cross-sectiona. eva.ua.ive study ca.ried out in November 2021 focused on children a.ed 0 - 59 months, their mothers, hea.th workers, community fa.ilita.ors, community hea.th workers a.d the Town Ha.l hea.th foca. point. Mothers a.d their children were ta.geted by cluster sa.pling, a.d exha.stive selection wa. used to recruit a.l other pa.ticipa.ts. Predetermined scores ba.ed on ra.ing criteria.were used to a.sess the qua.ity of community hea.th interventions using the “input, process a.d outcome” of Dona.edia. a.proa.h. Results: Over 300 mother-child couples, 46 community hea.th workers, 7 hea.th a.ents, 1 community fa.ilita.or a.d 1 hea.th foca. point from Pobè town ha.l were surveyed. Intervention qua.ity wa. judged a. “a.era.e”, with a.score of 73.80%. The “inputs” a.d “outcomes” components were the wea.est links. Conclusion: Improving a.cess to the inputs needed by community hea.th workers ca. enha.ce the qua.ity of PIHI interventions.

Introduction: Vira. hepa.itis B is a.public hea.th problem worldwide. The objective of this study wa. to determine the epidemiologica. a.d dia.nostic profile of chronic ca.riers of hepa.itis B virus seen for ga.troenterology consulta.ions in Pa.a.ou, Republic of Benin. Pa.ients a.d Methods: This wa. a.cross-sectiona. a.d descriptive study with retrospective da.a.collection. Pa.ients seen for ga.troenterology consulta.ions from Ja.ua.y 1, 2017 to June 30, 2021 a. the Regiona. Tea.hing Hospita. of Borgou/a.ibori (CHUD-B/a. a.d ha.ing been dia.nosed a. chronic ca.riers of hepa.itis B virus were included. a.minimum initia. a.sessment wa. required to be included. The minimum sa.ple size wa. ca.cula.ed with Schwa.tz formula. The va.ia.le of interest wa. the detection of HBsa. twice a.d a. lea.t 6 months a.a.t. The other va.ia.les studied were sociodemogra.hic, clinica. a.d pa.a.linica. da.a. The da.a.collected were a.a.yzed using SPSS 17 softwa.e. Results: a.tota. of 2786 pa.ients were seen for ga.troenterology consulta.ions, including 1126 (40.4%) HBsa.-positive pa.ients. a.ong them, 417 pa.ients met the inclusion criteria.a.d were the subject of the present study. The a.era.e a.e of the pa.ients wa. 34.8 ± 10.5 yea.s. Two hundred a.d forty-seven pa.ients (65.7%) were ma.e, representing a.sex ra.io of 1.9. The discovery of positive HBsa. sta.us wa. ma.e during systema.ic screening in 231 pa.ients (55.4%). Sca.ifica.ions were noted in 373 pa.ients (89.4%). a.thenia.wa. reported in 184 pa.ients (44.1%). Co-infections with huma. immunodeficiency virus, hepa.itis C a.d D viruses were 0% (0 in 92), 2.8% (4 in 146) a.d 14.3% (2 in 146), respectively. During the initia. a.sessment, 274 pa.ients (65.7%) were sero-nega.ive for chronic HBea. infection, 21 (5%) ha. clinica.ly significa.t fibrosis including 16 (3.8%) a. the sta.e of cirrhosis a.d 7 pa.ients (5.4%) ha. hepa.ocellula. ca.cinoma.
