Present study was conducted to investigate the Cadmium (Cd) phytoextraction potential of two plants (Veronica anagallis-aquatic and Epilobium laxum Royle) for Cd removal from induced saline water. In hydroponic system, various concentrations of the Cd (50, 100, and 150 ppm) and NaCl salt (1000, 3000, and 6000 ppm) were used alone and in various combinations to evaluate the effect of salt (NaCl) concentrations on Cd absorption and accumulation in Veronica anagallis and Epilobium plants. The Cd at higher concentrations (100 and 150 ppm) significantly reduced the growth and biomass of both plants and addition of salt (NaCl) to growth media (Hoagland solution) further reduced the growth. The Cadmium (Cd) translocation factor (TF) of Epilobium plant was more than one (1), while the Veronica plant showed translocation factor less than 0.5. Veronica plant showed higher Bio-concentration factor (BCF) as more than 3.5 and Epilobium plant demonstrated Bio-concentration factor less than 1 (BCF 1 is a threshold limit for a plant to be hyper-accumulator of Cd). Conclusively, the Veronica anagallis plant is reported as Cd hyper-accumulator, while Epilobium laxum plant as non hyper-accumulator on the basis of BCF values in the present findings. Further study on Veronica and Epilobium plants is recommended.

Strawponic is an innovative and exotic system for growing potato on soil surface using crop straw as cover mulch. A field trial was carried out at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon to test the efficacy of this system for small potato producers. Barley (Hordeum vulgare) straw mulch at 25, 50 and 75 t/ha was used to cover potato tubers in no-till system. Potato plant number, height, number of shoots and leaves, root and shoot dry weight, and potato yield were collected. Results showed that all tested rates of straw significantly increased potato yield in comparison to the till system. Marketable yield was the highest with no-till potato at 50 and 75 t/ha compared to no-till potato at all tested surface straw rates. None of the treatments was harmful to potato plants compared to the till potato. This study could be a promising gate for production of potato for small-scale farmers.

AIM To investigate incidence and survival of post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder(PTLD) patients after liver transplantation. METHODS A cross-sectional survey was conducted among patients who underwent liver transplantation at Shiraz Transplant Center(Shiraz, Iran) between August 2004 and March 2015. Clinical and laboratory data of patients were collected using a data gathering form. RESULTS There were 40 cases of PTLD in the pediatric age group and 13 cases in the adult group. The incidence of PTLD was 6.25% in pediatric patients and 1.18% in adult liver transplant recipients. The post-PTLD survival of patients at 6 mo was 75.1% ± 6%, at 1 year was 68.9% ± 6.5% and at 5 years was 39.2% ± 14.2%. Higher serum tacrolimus level was associated with lower post-PTLD survival in pediatric patients(OR = 1.07, 95%CI: 1.006-1.15, P = 0.032). A serum tacrolimus level over 11.1 ng/mL was predictive of post PTLD survival(sensitivity = 90%, specificity = 52%, area under the curve = 0.738, P = 0.035). CONCLUSION Incidence of PTLD in our liver transplant patients is comparable to other centers. Transplant physicians may consider adjustment of tacrolimus dose to maintain its serum level below this cutoff point.

本文是对阿拉伯联合酋长国(阿联酋)的企业所使用的战略规划工具和固有流程进行实证调查的首次尝试之一。为了制定一个保证利润长期增长的战略,企业必须要意识到在内部和外部环境层面都会出现的现象。目前,随着近年来商业环境的迅速变化,以及由于竞争力日益增强、全球化和技术变革,公司/企业必须快速适应市场条件的高速变化。企业必须拥有足够的适应性和灵活性以提高自身的竞争力,否则企业就会面临各种问题和困难的冲击,甚至面临长期的生存问题。想要从外部视角获得企业内部信息并非易事,因为这需要企业的合作愿意。通常企业与外部人员合作意愿并不是很强,所以我们聚焦于与战略规划活动相关的技术和流程。现有的一系列技术和工具都可以用于上述问题的分析,如投资组合分析或战略定位。因此,本文得出两个观点:第一个是通用框架,在这个框架中我们考虑了各种类型的企业包括小型,中型和大型企业,然后我们将样本企业划分为小型公司和中型或大型公司两个组。本文最后的结果显示,大多数企业每年进行一次战略规划,战略计划的时间目标是1-3年。这项活动由高层管理人员或中层管理人员执行,首席执行官CEO同样扮演着非常重要的角色。在企业中最常用的技术是:头脑风暴,成本结构分析,BCG矩阵,竞争对手分析和任务陈述。最后,一些企业已经创建了适合自己的工具或技术,并且对于以后的研究来说也是一个很好的领域。

Different pollutants in soil, water, and other parts of the environment are so important in portraying environmental pollution, and could come from different source of pollutions including industrial activities. Entering metals into the soil by human activities is an important process in the geochemical cycling of heavy metals. Among the potentially toxic metals, mercury, lead, cadmium, nickel, arsenic, selenium and chromium could be named as the most toxic. Each of these elements is used in industrial activities and most of them are considered as by-products of mining, refining and similar industrial activities. Although the establishment of cement factories is usually associated with job creation and other economic aspects, the purpose of economic interests, is inevitable environmental damage caused by cement factories. Therefore, research on pollution originated from factories appears to be necessary. In order to determine the effect of cement production on farmland around Shahrood cement factory, soil samples were taken from surface soils from depth of 0-30 cm. The samples were analyzed using atomic absorption spectrometer instrument after samples preparation using standard frequently used methods. Soil magnetic susceptibility of the samples was also measured using Saskopto meters MFK1-FA. The results showed that among the parameters studied, the element of Zinc has shown the lowest mean value equal to 0.31 mg·kg-1 and iron has shown the highest mean value equal to 6.36 mg·kg-1.

Incorporation of GIS Based Program into Hydraulic Model for Water Level Modeling on River Basin

Water resources management usually requires that hydraulic, ecological, and hydrological models be linked. The Hy- drologic Engineering Center River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) hydraulic model and the Hydrologic Engineering Center Geospatial River Analysis System (HEC-GEORAS), imitates flow and water profiles in the Neka river basin’s downstream flood plain. Hydrograph phases studied during the flood seasons of 1986-1999 and from 2002-2004 were used to calibrate and verify the hydraulic model respectively. Simulations of peak flood stages and hydrographs’ evaluations are congruent with studies and observations, with the former showing mean square errors between 4.8 - 10 cm. HECRAS calculations and forecast flood water levels. Nash-Sutcliffe effectiveness (CR3) is more than 0.92 along with elevated levels of water which were created with some effectiveness (CR5) of 0.94 for the validation period. The coupled two models show good performance in the water level modeling.

A New Definition for Generalized First Derivative of Nonsmooth Functions

In this paper, we define a functional optimization problem corresponding to smooth functions which its optimal solution is first derivative of these functions in a domain. These functional optimization problems are applied for non-smooth functions which by solving these problems we obtain a kind of generalized first derivatives. For this purpose, a linear programming problem corresponding functional optimization problem is obtained which their optimal solutions give the approximate generalized first derivative. We show the efficiency of our approach by obtaining derivative and generalized derivative of some smooth and nonsmooth functions respectively in some illustrative examples.

Humans coexist with extreme events all the time, only when the intensity of the event becomes greater than a certain level there is a resulting disaster. Small earthquakes occur all of the time with no adverse effects. Only large earthquakes cause disasters. Statistical analysis reveals that larger events occur less frequently than small events. In a year, we would have many values for the events;the annual maximum was the greatest of those values. Within an annual series, only the largest value per year is allowed, even if an additional significant peak occurs. As the magnitude of a hazardous increases, the frequency of occurrence (how often a given magnitude is equaled or exceeded) decreases. Thus, major disasters result from a small number of large events that rarely occur. A plot of recurrence intervals versus associated magnitudes produces a group of points that also approximates a straight line on semi-logarithmic paper. Therefore, past records of earthquakes at the Gulf of Aqaba, Northern Red Sea for months from May, 1999 to Feb, 2016 are used to predict future conditions concerning the annual frequency, the return period, the percentage probability for each event, and the probability of a certain-magnitude earthquake occurring in the region during any period.

Oxidative Diels-Alder reaction of 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid with 1,3-cyclopentadiene

The electrochemical oxidation of 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid （1） has been studied in the presence of 1,3- cyclopentadiene （2） as a diene in water/ethanol （40/60, v/v） mixture using cyclic voltammetry and controlled-potential coulometry. A plausible mechanism for the oxidation of 1 in the presence of 2 is presented. Compound 1 was converted into bis-adduct 5 via electrooxidation, Diels-Alder reaction of 2 to anodically generated 3,6-dioxocyclohexa-l,4-dienecarboxylic acid （lox）, decarboxylation reaction, electrooxidation and Diels-Alder reaction. The electrochemical synthesis of 5 was performed in a one- pot reaction, without toxic reagents, at a carbon electrode in a simple cell using an environmentally friendlv method.
