Investigation on biological activities for combating desertification in the western shores of Lake Urmia,Northwest Iran

Lake Urmia,Northwest Iran,has confronted a drying procedure in recent years with losing 90%of its water *** authorities concerned about desertification processes and possible dust events throughout the *** this regard,the Iranian Natural Resources and Watershed Management Organization has taken ecological measures to plant vegetation using salt cedar(tamarix ramosissima Ledeb.)shrubs to combat *** study aimed to investigate the vegetation and soil characteristics of natural and plantation stands of salt cedar on the western shores of Lake *** this end,7 transects were randomly selected with 15 shrubs in natural stands,and 7 transects were randomly selected with 15 shrubs in the plantation parts along the planting ***,vegetative characteristics were ***,soil samples were taken from the vicinity of the *** results indicated that there was no significant difference between the mean diameter at breast height(DBH)of salt cedar in natural *** was a significant difference between the mean number of sprouts per sprout-clumps,mean crown diameter,collar diameter,total height,and also between mean crown diameter and freshness of shrubs among different sites(Pt was also found that soil variables,such as clay content,organic matter,electrical conductivity(EC),Na^(+),specific absorption rate(SAR),Cl^(-),SO_(4)^(2-),Na^(+),K^(+),and PO_(4)^(2-) are the most significant variable parameters between studied *** the results shown,the values of EC,SAR,Na^(+),and Cl^(-)are 6 times higher in the planted stands than in the natural stands of ***,the colonization of *** in the planted stands is unsuccessful by dramatic drop in the total height and average *** the role of soil characteristics in explaining the variance of data and site separation,it seems that these indicators can be applied in executive plans as important indicators to identify suitable planting sites for c

A new empirical chart for rockburst analysis in tunnelling:tunnel rockburst classification(tRC)

Rockburst is defined as a phenomenon with immediate dynamic instability under excavation unloading conditions of deep or high geostress *** knowledge and lack of characterizing information prevent engineers and experts from achieving appropriate prediction results related to the rockburst *** this study,a data set including 220 rockburst instances was collected for rockburst classification via the geostatistical *** update of the 2D graph,the tunnel rockburst classification(tRC)chart,was introduced based on analysing three indicators,namely,elastic energy index(Wet),tangential stress in rock mass(σ_(0)),and uniaxial compressive strength(σ_(c)).Distribution and correlation of data were drawn on 2D plot,and the boundaries of rockburst were distinguished according to the achieved interpolate points by kriging ***,the validation phase was performed using an additional set of 28 case histories obtained from several projects around the *** results showed that the tRC chart with an average error percentage of 3.6%in the prediction of rockburst had a significant and effective implementation in comparison to the exiting heuristic *** the initial character of the prediction,the described chart may be a helpful tool in the first steps of design and construction.

Role of Cannabinoid CB1 Receptor in Object Recognition Memory Impairment in Chronically Rapid Eye Movement Sleep-deprived Rats

Objective We aimed to investigate whether antagonism of the cannabinoid CB1 receptor(CB1R)could affect novel object recognition(NOR)memory in chronically rapid eye movement sleep-deprived(RSD)*** the animals were examined for recognition memory following a 7-day chronic partial RSD paradigm using the multiple platform *** CB1R antagonist rimonabant(1 or 3 mg/kg,i.p.)was administered either at one hour prior to the sample phase for acquisition,or immediately after the sample phase for consolidation,or at one hour before the test phase for retrieval of NOR *** the reconsolidation task,rimonabant was administered immediately after the second sample *** the RSD episode impaired acquisition,consolidation,and retrieval,but it did not affect the reconsolidation of NOR *** administration did not affect acquisition,consolidation,and reconsolidation;however,it attenuated impairment of the retrieval of NOR memory induced by chronic *** these findings,along with our previous report,would seem to suggest that RSD may affect different phases of recognition memory based on its ***,it seems that the CB1R may,at least in part,be involved in the adverse effects of chronic RSD on the retrieval,but not in the acquisition,consolidation,and reconsolidation,of NOR memory.

the goal of this paper is to discover modern soliton solutions to long and short-wave interaction system by procedures called extended rational sine-cosine and rational sinh-cosh *** assume that the equation has a hypothetical soliton *** reorganizing the resulting equations,we obtain a system of *** Maple software,we get unknown coefficients in the system and writing them in the original equation,we obtain new solition solutions of the *** results show that the soliton solutions generated by the method for the long and short-wave interaction system are bright,kink type,bright periodic and dark *** provided 3-D figures to illustrate the *** results indicate that the method employed in this paper is superior than some other methods used in the literature to solve the same system equations.

Experimental and numerical study on crack propagation in pre-cracked beam specimens under three-point bending

A simultaneous experimental and numerical study on crack propagation in the pre-cracked beams specimens(concrete-like materials) is carried out using three-point bending flexural test. the crack propagation and coalescence paths of internal cracks in side beam specimens are experimentally studied by inserting double internal cracks. the effects of crack positions on the fracturing path in the bridge areas of the double cracked beam specimens are also studied. It has been observed that the breaking of concrete-like cracked beams specimens occurs mainly by the propagation of wing cracks emanating from the tips of the pre-existing cracks in the numerical and experimental analyses, respectively. the same specimens are numerically simulated by an indirect boundary element method(IBEM) known as displacement discontinuity method(DDM) using higher displacement discontinuity. these numerical results are compared with the existing experimental results. this comparison illustrates the higher accuracy of the results obtained by the indirect boundary element method by using only a small number of elements compared with the discrete element method(PFC2D code).

Potentially toxic metal concentration,spatial distribution,and health risk assessment in drinking groundwater resources of southeast Iran

In this study, the concentration and spatial distribution of potentially toxic metals(PtMs), including arsenic(As), cadmium(Cd), chromium(Cr), lead(Pb), copper(Cu), iron(Fe), manganese(Mn), and magnesium(Mg) in 23 wells and drinking groundwater distribution networks of Rafsanjan, located in southeast Iran were evaluated. Moreover, the assessment of carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks was estimated by Monte Carlo simulation(MCS). the results showed that the concentrations of As and Pb in more than 99% and 23.46% of the study area, respectively, were higher than the maximum concentration level(10 μg/L). the mean concentration of other metals, including Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mg, and Mn in all drinking water resources was within the WHO standard level. the mean hazard quotient(HQ) for As in the age group of children was 9.246 and adults 2.972, indicating high non-carcinogenic risk of As in the study area. the lifetime cancer risk(LtCR) of As was 1.36 E-3 for adults and 1.52 E-2 for children, indicating high non-carcinogenic risk of As. the level of HQ and LtCR for Pb in both age groups was in the acceptable range. the results of sensitivity analysis showed that the most effective variables were pollutant concentration and body weight(BW), respectively. Finally, it can be concluded that exposure to PtMs, especially As through drinking water in the study area can have significant effects on people’s health living in the area;therefore, it is necessary to treat and remove As from groundwater resources before drinking or using for domestic purpose.

Advanced land observing satellite data to identify ground vegetation in a juniper forest,northeast Iran

Juniperus excelsa ***,(Persian juniper),is found in northeast *** this study,the relationship between ground cover and vegetation indices have been investigated using remote sensing data for a Persian juniper *** data were analyzed based on the Advanced Visible and Near Infrared Radiometer type 2 and panchromatic data obtained by the Panchromatic Remote-sensing Instrument for Stereo Mapping sensors,both on board the advanced land observing satellite(ALOS).the ground cover was calculated using field survey data from 25 sub-sample plots and the vegetation indices were derived with 595 maximum filtering algorithm from ALOS data.R2 values were calculated for the normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI)and various soil-adjusted vegetation indices(SAVI)with soilbrightness-dependent correction factors equal to 1 and 0.5,a modified SAVI(MSAVI)and an optimized SAVI(OSAVI).R2 values for the NDVI,MSAVI,OSAVI,SAVI(1),and SAVI(0.5)were 0.566,0.545,0.619,0.603,and 0.607,*** ratio vegetation index for arid and semi-arid regions based on spectral wavelengths of ALOS data with an R2 value 0.633 was *** of the current study will be useful for forest inventories in arid and semi-arid regions in addition to assisting decisionmaking for natural resource managers.

Design and simulation of type-1 graphene/Si quantum dot superlattice for intermediate-band solar cell applications

Recent experiments suggest graphene-based materials as candidates for use in future electronic and optoelectronic *** this study,we propose a new multilayer quantum dot(QD)superlattice(SL)structure with graphene as the core and silicon(Si)as the shell of *** Slater-Koster tight-binding method based on Bloch theory is exploited to investigate the band structure and energy states of the graphene/Si *** reveal that the graphene/Si QD is a type-I QD and the ground state is 0.6 eV above the valance *** results also suggest that the graphene/Si QD can be potentially used to create a sub-bandgap in all Si-based intermediate-band solar cells(IBSC).the energy level hybridization in a SL of graphene/Si QDs is investigated and it is observed that the mini-band formation is under the infuence of inter-dot spacing among *** evaluate the impact of the graphene/Si QD SL on the performance of Si-based solar cells,we design an IBSC based on the graphene/Si QD(QDIBSC)and calculate its short-circuit current density(J_(sc))and carrier generation rate(G)using the 2D fnite diference time domain(FDtD)*** comparison with the standard Si-based solar cell which records J_(sc)=16.9067 mA/cm^(2)and G=1.48943×10^(28)m^(−3)⋅s^(−1),the graphene/Si QD IBSC with 2 layers of QDs presents Jsc=36.4193 mA/cm^(2)and G=7.94192×10^(28)m^(−3)⋅s^(−1),ofering considerable ***,the efects of the number of QD layers(L)and the height of QD(H)on the performance of the graphene/Si QD IBSC are discussed.

Additive manufacturing has rapidly evolved over recent years with the advent of polymer inks and those inks containing novel *** compatibility of polymer inks with nanomaterial inks remains a great *** yet effective methods for interface improvement are highly sought-after to significantly enhance the functional and mechanical properties of printed polymer *** this study,we developed and modified a ti_(3)C_(2) MXene ink with a siloxane surfactant to provide compatibility with a polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)*** rheology of all the inks was investigated with parameters such as complex modulus and viscosity,confirming a self-supporting ink behaviour,whilst Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy exposed the inks’reaction *** modified MXene nanosheets have displayed strong interactions with PDMS over a wide strain *** electrical conductivity of 6.14×10^(−2) S cm^(−1) was recorded for a stretchable nanocomposite conductor containing the modified MXene *** nanocomposite revealed a nearly linear stress-strain relationship and a maximum stress of 0.25 *** 5%strain,the relative resistance change remained below 35%for up to 100 cycles,suggesting high flexibility,conductivity and mechanical *** study creates a pathway for 3D printing conductive polymer/nanomaterial inks for multifunctional applications such as stretchable electronics and sensors.
