Objective:To evaluate the effects of ethanol–water(80:20) extract of Marrubium vulgare(***) on the hematological parameters,macroscopic and histological aspects of the uterus and fetus in non-pregnant and pregnant ***:Female rats were divided into 4 equal groups(n = 9),group N(normal rats) and group G(pregnant rats) considered as control groups,group NE(normal rats treated with the ethanol–water(80:20,v/v) extract of ***) and group GE(pregnant rats treated with the extract).The ethanol–water(80:20) plant extract was administered in a single daily dose 1 g/kg at the morning,during 19 *** the 19 day of the experiment,animals were sacrificed,the uterus and fetuses were removed for the morphological and histological studies and the blood was collected in EDTA tubes for the measurement of hematological parameters with the use of an automate ‘HORIBA ABX Micros 60 Hematology Analyzer'.Results:Our results showed,in group NE and GE,a significant decrease on hematological parameters:red blood cells(NE:18.6%;GE:38.4%),hematocrit(NE:13.8%;GE:20.4%),hemoglobin(NE:12.1%;GE:8.3%) and mean corpuscular volume(NE:6.4%;GE:2%) with P more less a ***,the extract of *** caused a significant decrease on the mean implantations of fetuses(82.5%,P<0.001) and their size(47.2%,P< 0.01).As for the macroscopic and histological appearance of uterus,our data showed no change in normal treated *** contrast,the treated pregnant rats showed a severe histological change characterized by the existence of location of stopped ***,it was also found in the uterus of these rat lyses placental and embryo ***:All these results support the hypothesis of an abortifacient effect of ***.

Agricultural soils in semi-arid regions have frequently been degraded due to adverse climatic conditions,organic matter depletion,and poor farming *** enhance soil quality,this study examines the reuse of sewage sludge(SS)as an available source of organic matter in a typical Mediterranean sandy-loam ***,we studied the cumulative effect of two annual applications of 40,80 and 120 tons of sludge per ha on soil quality in absence of *** dose-dependent improvement of organic matter content was the most significant event that reflected sludge application rates,and consequently influenced other soil ***,soil structural stability increased by 13.3%,28.8%and 59.4%for treatments SS-40,SS-80 and SS-120 respectively as compared to unamended *** stability improvement was also confirmed by the dose-dependent variation of other edaphic factors including calcium content,the microbial quotient as well as Welt and C:N *** param-eters are involved in cementing soil aggregates by cation bridging,the formation of microbial mucilage,and clay-humic *** magnetic susceptibility(SMS)was measured in situ as a possible rapid tool to evaluate soil *** showed significant correlation with sludge dose and stability amelioration testifying to the aggregation role that can play Al2O3 and particularly Fe2O3 minerals added by the hematite-rich ***,analytical results and field observations revealed no trends of soil salinization or acidification by excessive sludge *** avoiding the rhizosphere effect,outcomes could reflect the resilience and intrinsic capacity of the soil to cope with excessive sludge loads.

Objective:To determine the concentration of heavy metals(Cd,Cu,Fe,Ni,Pb and Zn)in the liver,gills and muscle of Liza aurata(***)collected from the Kerkennah *** target hazard quotient was also used as an indicator of human health risks associated with fish ***:The sample was collected from Kerkennah Islands(Gulf of Gabes,Tunisia).Heavy metals in *** tissues(gills,liver and muscle)were analysed with an atomic absorption spectrometer(PerkinElmer).Results:As expected,muscle always possessed the lowest concentrations of all *** maximum concentrations of Cd(0.52 mg/kg wet weight),Cu(5.43 mg/kg wet weight),Fe(115.27mg/kg wet weight)and Zn(112.20 mg/kg wet weight)were measured in the liver,while the highest Ni(1.54 mg/kg wet weight)and Pb(1.43 mg/kg wet weight)were recorded in *** target hazard quotient through consumption of fish and calculated by adding the inividual target hazard quotient was below 1,indicating that there was no significant potential health risk associated with consumption of ***:*** from the Kerkennah Islands may be suitable for human consumption.

Spring phytoplankton variability along a south coast of Sfax at the water-sediment interface(Tunisia,Eastern Mediterranean Sea)

Objective:To compare the composition of the phytoplankton classes during the two spring studies,to study whether the spatial distribution of the phytoplankton is stable or not between spring 2010 and spring 2011 and to estimate the abiotic factor that mostly affects the structure and the richness of ***:Phytoplankton sub-samples were counted under an inverted microscope using the Utermöhl *** identification was made from morphological criteria after consulting various ***:Results showed a significant difference from spring 2010 to spring 2011 regarding nitrate/phosphate ratio,with high value in spring 2010(30.19±25.70).Relatively low nitrate/phosphate ratio(1.13±0.53)during spring 2011 might result from *** was characterised by the proliferation of Bacillariophyceae(46%–78%of the total microphytoplankton)and by the large number of *** two Bacillariophyceae species were identified at every station,represented essentially by Amphora sp.,Navicula sp.,Coscinodiscus *** Grammatophora *** results advise that Bacillariophyceae are usually adapted to particular ecological ***:This study shows that hydrological conditions in the south coast of Sfax present a high spatial and seasonal *** phytoplankton community distribution showed clear variations along the coastal stations during a spring cruises conducted in May 2010 and May *** phytoplankton community found along the coast was dominated by opportunistic Bacillariophyceae species.

Study of gonadic growth factors: Seminal transforming growth factor-β1, epidermal growth factor and insulin-like growth factor-I and their relationship with male infertility

Background: The aim of this study was to establish normal reference values for several growth factors in semen and provide a basis for understanding their physiological significance in fertile and infertile subjects. Methods: 110 infertile men semen was evaluated according to WHO standards and by enzyme immunoassay (ELISA kit protocol) to determine the rate of growth factors (TGFβ1, IGFI, EGF). We have also listed neutrophils by staining with peroxidase to examine the association of inflammation with the levels of these factors. The determination of the epididymal (alpha-1,4-glucosidase) marker was directed according to the technical recommended by the WHO in 2010. Each patient received a hormonal balance including the determination of plasma FSH, LH and Testosterone. Results: Concentrations of TGFβ1 were significantly higher in (severe and extreme azoospermic, oligospermic) pathological groups compared to the control group (P 0.05) between control and pathological groups. The IGFI is partly testicular and/or epididymal as it is lowered in some patients with obstructive azoospermia. Positive correlations were observed between the seminal IGFI, mobility (r = 0.487) and sperm morphology (r = +0.187). Immunological sperm abnormalities and/or idiopathic do not alter the rate of EGF seminal. There is no significant correlation between seminal EGF or with sperm parameters or with plasma levels of FSH and LH. Conclusion: The growth factors are primarily peptides, handling and identification in a complex environment as the seminal plasma, but it requires a lot of precautions if we do not want to expose to the risk of bad farms/interpretations of data obtained.

Objective This research was performed to evaluate the effect of tebuconazole(TBZ)on reproductive organs of male rats and to assess the protective role of combined essential trace elements in alleviating the detrimental effect of TBZ on male reproductive *** For this purpose,48 rats were exposed to 100 mg/kg TBZ,TBZ supplemented with zinc(Zn),selenium(Se),copper(Cu),and iron(Fe),TBZ+(Se+Zn);TBZ+Cu;or TBZ+*** experiment was conducted for 30 consecutive *** TBZ caused a significant perturbation in mineral levels and reduction in reproductive organs weights,plasma testosterone level,and testicular antioxidant enzyme *** TBZ-treated group also showed a significant increase in sperm abnormalities(count,motility,and viability percent),plasma follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone concentrations,lipid peroxidation,protein oxidation,and severe DNA degradation in comparison with the ***,TBZ caused testis ***,treatment with trace elements,in combination or alone,improved the reproductive organ weights,sperm characteristics,TBZ-induced toxicity,and histopathological modifications in *** TBZ exerts significant harmful effects on male reproductive *** concurrent administration of trace elements reduces testis dysfunction,fertility,and toxicity induced by TBZ.

Assessment of Wastewater Management and Health Impacts in African Secondary Cities: Case of Dimbokro (Côte D’Ivoire)

The majority of population growth in developing countries will occur in secondary cities where there is limited access to clean water and sanitation. Wastewater management priorities in these cities will be different from those in larger cities and developed countries. For this reason, it is important to assess wastewater management in these cities of sub-Saharan Africa. This study assessed clean water supply, wastewater and faecal sludge management and associated health risks in Dimbokro, C?te D’Ivoire. The study was performed in March 2015 in 12 neighborhoods with a total of 703 households. In these neighborhoods, the questions were addressed and discussed with household head. The study revealed that the households of the city were structured on three topology habitats: residential (5%), economic (42%) and evolutive or yards housing (53%). For water supply, 99.4% of the households used water from SODECI, the local public water supply network, while the remaining 0.6% of surveyed household obtained water from wells. Domestic wastewater, used for doing laundry, dishwashing and showering, was disposed of in the following ways: directly into the street (33%), septic tank (23%), backyards (18%), storm drain (16%), sewer network (6%), pit latrine (3%) or into soakaway (2%). In addition, untreated wastewater was sometimes discharged into the N’Ziriver by certain households. 52% of households surveyed emptied latrines manually and 48 % used mechanic drain services. The most frequent diseases occurring in the households were Malaria (63%), Diarrhoea (13%) and Typhoid fever (9%) in the households of the city. In the light of this study, the municipal authorities of Dimbokro should provide the city with wastewater systems that drain to a central outlet system where the waste-water can be easily treated before final disposal for reuse in agriculture.

Impact of the professional exposure on the spermatic parameters and the results of ICSI at Tunisian unfertile couples

Introduction: The association of the professional exposure to the decline of the male reproductive function had been the subject of several studies but without arriving to one envisagement undeniable of its existence. The ICSI, technique of reference in severe male infertilities, is visavis unexplained failures whose environmental and professional exposure could be about its cause partly. In this work, we tried to highlight an association between certain factors of professional exposure and the deterioration of the spermatic parameters, then to evaluate the effect of such factors on the result of the ICSI. Materials and Methods: It is about a study of the exposed type—no exposed, realized through collaboration between the Unit of Medicine of the Reproduction and the Service of Medicine of Work of the CHU Farhat Hached of Sousse. This study was based on a questionnaire of which part of the items was collected medical files of the patients raising the general characteristics, the profile of exposure as well as the spermatic parameters and the biological assessment of ICSI. Results: Significant associations between the deterioration of sperm and the professional risk factors such as the exposure to the formaldehydes (p = 0.01) and heat (p = 0.001) were noted. The exposure to formaldehydes was associated at the higher risk of oli gozoospermy, of asthenozoospermy with a significant reduction in mobility (p = 0.05), whereas the talks with cement had a risk higher of teratozoospermy. In addition an exposure to heat was associated at the high risk of oligoteratozoospermy. The total rate of pregnancies after ICSI among 220 patients of our series was of 14.47%. The ICSI balance showed a reduction in total fertility rate (76.6% exposed vs 75.3% no exposed). Conclusion: In spite of the limited number of the patients, this study had shown a correlation between certain professional exposures of origin and the deterioration of sperm. Objective The present study investigated the protective role of Hyparrhenia hirta （H. hirta） against sodium nitrate （NaNO3）-induced hepatoxicity. Methods Male Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups： a control group and two treated groups during 50 d with NaNO3 administered either alone in drinking water or co-administered with H. hit＇to. Results NaNO3 treatment induced a significant increase in serum levels of glucose, total cholesterol and triglyceride while serum total protein level decreased significantly. Transaminases and lactate deshydrogenase activities in serum were elevated indicating hepatic cells＇ damage after treatment with NaNO3. The hyperbilirubinemia and the increased serum gamma glutamyl transferase activities suggested the presence of cholestasis in NaNO3 exposed rats. In parallel, a significant increase in malondialdehyde level along with a concomitant decrease in total glutathione content and superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase activities were observed in the liver after NaNO3 treatment. Furthermore, nitrate caused a significant induction of DNA fragmentation. These modifications in NaNO3-treated rats corresponded histologically with hepatoceltular necrosis and mononuclear cells infiltration. H. hirta supplementation showed a remarkable amelioration of the abnormalities cited above. Conclusion The results concluded that the treatment with H. hirta had a significant role in protecting the animals from nitrate-induced liver dysfunction.
