The final analysis of the phase 3 Targeted Investigational Treatment Analysis of Novel Anti-androgen(TITAN)trial showed improvement in overall survival(OS)and other efficacy endpoints with apalutamide plus androgen deprivation therapy(ADT)versus ADT alone in patients with metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer(mCSPC).As ethnicity and regional differences may affect treatment outcomes in advanced prostate cancer,a post hoc final analysis was conducted to assess the efficacy and safety of apalutamide in the Asian ***-driven endpoints were OS,and time from randomization to initiation of castration resistance,prostate-specific antigen(PSA)progression,and second progression-free survival(PFS2)on first subsequent therapy or *** endpoints were assessed using the Kaplan–Meier method and Cox proportional-hazards models without formal statistical testing and adjustment for *** Asian patients received once-daily apalutamide 240 mg(n=111)or placebo(n=110)plus *** a median follow-up of 42.5 months and despite crossover of 47 placebo recipients to open-label apalutamide,apalutamide reduced the risk of death by 32%(hazard ratio[HR]:0.68;95%confidence interval[CI]:0.42–1.13),risk of castration resistance by 69%(HR:0.31;95%CI:0.21–0.46),PSA progression by 79%(HR:0.21;95%CI:0.13–0.35)and PFS2 by 24%(HR:0.76;95%CI:0.44–1.29)relative to *** outcomes were comparable between subgroups with low-and high-volume disease at *** new safety issues were *** provides valuable clinical benefits to Asian patients with mCSPC,with an efficacy and safety profile consistent with that in the overall patient population.

This research aims to develop a wound dressing composed of collagen (Col) and hyaluronic acid (ha) containing epidermal growth factor (EGF). First important issue is to contain EGF in the wound dressing in a stable state. The sheet-shaped sponge was manufactured by freeze-vacuum drying an aqueous solution of Col. Both sides of sponge were treated with ultraviolet (UV) irradiation to introduce intermolecular cross links between collagen molecules. This sponge was named Sponge-Col. Another sheet-shaped sponge was manufactured by freeze-vacuum drying an aqueous solution of ha containing EGF. This sponge was named Sponge-ha/EGF. The wound dressing was manufactured by laminating Sponge-Col on the top, Sponge-ha/EGF in the middle, and Sponge-Col on the bottom to create a sandwich structure. This method can prevent the reducing of EGF activity due to UV irradiation for intermolecular cross-linking. Second important issue is to enable gradual release of EGF from the wound dressing. The elution behavior of this wound dressing was investigated by measuring the weight change after immersion in water for a predetermined time. This wound dressing showed initially fast elution and subsequent very slow elution properties. The upper layer and lower layer Sponge-Col enabled gradual release of the middle layer Sponge-ha/EGF. This result suggests that EGF contained in the wound dressing is gradually released together with ha from the wound dressing. Third important issue is to provide moist wound-healing environment. The upper layer and lower layer Sponge-Col can provide the wound dressing with high water absorption and long-term water retention properties.

A palladium catalyst immobilized on superparaganetic nanoparticles was prepared with a palladium loading of 0.30 mmol/g. The catalyst was characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, vibrating sample magnetometry, thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier transform infrared, atomic absorption spectrophotometry, and nitrogen adsorption. The immobilized palladium catalyst was an efficient catalyst without added phosphine ligands for the suzuki cross-coupling reaction of several aryl bromides with phenylboronic acid. The recovery of catalyst was simply by magnetic decantation in the presence of a magnet. The immobilized palladium catalyst can be reused many times without significant degradation in catalytic activity. No leaching of active palladium species into the reaction solution was detected.

The CaO-P_(2)O_(5)-SiO_(2)-MgO system presents several compounds used as biomaterials such as hydroxyapatite(ha),tricalcium phosphate(TCP)and TCP with magnesium substituting partial calcium(TCMP).Theβ-TCMP phase with whitlockite structure has interesting biological features and mechanical properties,meeting the requirements of a bioactive material for bone *** this work,the production of Mg-doped TCP,β-TCMP,has been investigated by crystallization from a glass composed of 52.75 wt%3CaO·P_(2)O_(5),30 wt%SiO_(2)and 17.25 wt%MgO(i.e.,31.7 mol%CaO,10.6 mol%P_(2)O_(5),26.6 mol%MgO and 31.1 mol%SiO_(2))using heat treatments between 775℃and 1100℃for up to 8 *** devitrification process of the glass has been accompanied by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),high-resolution X-ray diffraction(HRXRD),relative density and bending strength *** characterization by HRXRD and DSC revealed the occurrence of whitlockite soon after the bulk glass preparation,a transient non-cataloged silicate between 800℃and 1100℃,and the formation of diopside in samples treated at 1100℃as crystalline *** overall crystalline fraction varied from 26%to 70%depending on the heat ***,contraction of the a-axis lattice parameter and expansion of the c-axis lattice parameter of the whitlockite structure have been observed during the heat treatments,which were attributed to theβ-TCMP formation with the partial substitution of Ca^(2+)by Mg^(2+).Relative densities near 99%and 97%for the glass and glass-ceramics respectively indicated a discrete reduction as a function of the devitrification *** strengths of 70 MPa and 120 MPa were determined for the glass and glass-ceramic material crystallized at 975℃for 4 h,respectively.

Accelerated aging and eutrophication of water resources is a world menace attributed to influx of nutrient rich sediment from its catchment, resulting in poor water quality and shifts in ecological dynamism. Nyanza Gulf is a paramount source of livelihood, portable water, and of service to the rich biodiversity making it indispensable to the entire Lake Victoria watershed ecosystem. This water resource has been deteriorating over the past decades as a consequent of anthropogenic socio-economical activities. This has effectuated an increase in phytoplankton and hydrophyte colonies. The objective of this study was to track the quality and quantity of sediment inundation into the gulf considering the catchment micro-basins processes and influence of human socio-economical activities. Using Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS) as an interface to Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) with input of satellite digital elevation model (DEM), local rainfall, soil and land use data sets were utilized to determine the daily variability in sediment and nutrient loads from five major river basins. The SWAT model was successfully calibrated, and the performance validated with observed hydrological and water quality data. The model achieved identification of seasonal water quality budget filling in knowledge gaps about the catchment. River Nyando, Sondu-Miriu, Awach-Kibuon, Awach-Tende and Kibos discharge sediment loads of 3.91, 1.6, 1.18, 1.06 and 0.78 tons/ha respectively. Total suspended solids (TSS) concentration of up to 578mg/L on average daily is discharged by River Awach-Kibuon. This was associated with intense agricultural activities (>54% of the entire basin) on steep slopes (average 12.97) with Acrisols (15%of the basin) soils that is prone erosion. Poorly managed range-bush land that covers about 10% of this basin also contribute significantly to the TSS yield. This research aims to obtain useful information for development of medical devices such as wound dressing and tissue anti-adhesive product, using a spongy sheet composed of hyaluronic acid (HA) and collagen (Col). The spongy sheets were manufactured by freeze vacuum drying of HA and Col aqueous solution, followed by UV irradiation to introduce intermolecular crosslinks between Col molecules. These spongy sheets are referred to as Sponge-A (ratio of HA/Col = 5/1) and Sponge-B (ratio of HA/Col = 5/5). Both surfaces of Sponge-A and Sponge-B treated with UV irradiation for 15 minutes are referred to as Sponge-A-15 and Sponge-B-15, respectively. The weight change of spongy sheet was determined by immersing a peace of spongy sheet in water at 37°C. The weight of sponge-A-15 collected 1/2, 1, 3, 7 days after immersion in water was 63.5%, 62.1%, 56.6%, 54.4% of the original weight, respectively. The weight of Sponge-B-15 was 78.3%, 76.7%, 79.1%, 71.9% of the original weight, respectively. The weight change of spongy sheet was determined by immersing a peace of spongy sheet in water containing collagenase at 37°C. The weight of Sponge-A-15 collected 6, 8, 10, 12 hours after immersion in water containing collagenase (0.0005 w/v%) was 65.7%, 59.8%, 57.9%, 55.2% of the original weight, respectively. The weight of Sponge-B-15 was 63.5%, 52.1%, 42.0%, 43.2% of the original weight, respectively. This spongy sheet is considered to have the unique structure, where ha molecules are entrapped in an intermolecular cross-linked network structure of Col molecules. Eight types of spongy sheet were prepared by freeze-drying aqueous solutions of hyaluronic acid (ha) and poly(γ-glutamic acid) (PGA) with or without bioactive components including vitamin C derivative (VC), glucosylceramide (GC), and epidermal growth factor (EGF). Spongy sheets were categorized into the following groups: Group I (ha/PGA), Group II (ha/PGA + VC), Group III (ha/PGA + GC), Group IV (ha/PGA + VC, GC), Group V (ha/PGA + EGF), Group VI (ha/PGA + VC, EGF), Group VII (ha/PGA + GC, EGF), and Group VIII (ha/PGA + VC, GC, EGF). In the first experiment, we examined fibroblast proliferation in conditioned medium that had been prepared by immersing each spongy sheet in a conventional culture medium. EGF-incorporating spongy sheets (Groups V-VIII) enhanced fibroblast proliferation more than EGF-free spongy sheets (Groups I-IV). In the second experiment, cytokine production by fibroblasts was evaluated using a wound surface model. This involved elevation of fibroblasts-incorporating collagen gel sheets to the air-liquid interface, on which a spongy sheet (Groups I, IV, V and VIII) was placed and cultured for 1 week. EGF-incorporating spongy sheets (Groups V and VIII) enhanced the production of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) by fibroblasts more than EGF-free spongy sheets (Groups I and IV). The effect of these four types of spongy sheet on wounds was investigated in animal experiments. Chemical peel was performed by contacting 50% trichloroacetic acid (TCA) on the dorsal region of mice, after which a spongy sheet was placed, and the wound condition was then observed in a two-week period. Angiogenesis was facilitated to a greater degree in Group VIII compared with Groups I, IV and V. This finding indicates that Group VIII spongy sheet is a promising aid for skin recovery after chemical peel.

AIM: To investigate the safety and efficacy of the Cyberknife treatment for patients with advanced or terminal stage hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS: Patients with HCC with extrahepatic metastasis or vascular or bile duct invasion were enrolled between May 2011 and June 2015. The Cyberknife was used to treat each lesion. Treatment response scores were based on Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors v1.1. The trends of tumor markers,including alpha fetoprotein(AFP) and proteins induced by vitamin K absence Ⅱ(PIVKA Ⅱ) were assessed. Prognostic factors for tumor response and tumor markers were evaluated with Fisher's exact test and a logistic regression model. Survival was evaluated with the Kaplan-Meier method and multivariate analysis was performed using the Cox proportional hazards ***: Sixty-five patients with 95 lesions were enrolled. Based on the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer classification,all patients were either in the advanced or terminal stage of the disease. The target lesions were as follows: 52 were bone metastasis; 9,lung metastasis; 7,brain metastasis; 9,portal vein invasion;4,hepatic vein invasion; 4,bile duct invasion; and 10 other lesion types. The response rate and disease control rate were 34% and 53%,respectively. None of the clinical factors correlated significantly with tumor response. Fiducial marker implantation was associated with better control of both AFP(HR = 0.152; 95%CI: 0.026-0.887; P = 0.036) and PIVKA Ⅱ(HR = 0.035; 95%CI: 0.003-0.342; P = 0.004). The median survival time was 9 mo(95%CI: 5-15 mo). Terminal stage disease(HR = 9.809; 95%CI: 2.589-37.17,P han 400 ng/m L(HR = 2.548; 95%CI: 1.070-6.068,P = 0.035) were associated with worse survival.
