Introduction: Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis during pregnancy is a rare and severe condition, and timely diagnosis is quite difficult. We present the first case of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis caused by pyogenic liver abscess during pregnancy and discuss the clinical presentation. Case Presentation: A 26-year-old Japanese primigravida at 23 weeks of gestation complained of extremely high fever with a fast heart rate (140 beats per minute). She presented with systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS). Only 2 days later, she died. Autopsy findings proved that this was the first case of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis caused by pyogenic liver abscess during pregnancy. Conclusion: Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis should be considered when patients meet the SIRS criteria, especially whose clinical presentation includes extremely high fever (39°C) and a fast heart rate (greater than 110 bpm) during pregnancy, despite relatively normal laboratory data, because such vital signs may be associated with the onset of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.

＜正＞This paper presents a simple position sensorless control method of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor. This method cannot be applied basically in the low speed region. However, if the motor speed rapidly reaches the medium or high speed region after starting, it can be used. This method consists of two kinds of position estimation algorithms. At starting, the initial rotor position estimation is carried out, and is based on the variation of the current response caused by the magnetic saturation. In the medium and high speed regions, a mathematical model described by the extended electromotive force （EMF） is introduced. The angle of the extended EMF vector equals the error of the rotor position. The estimation of the extended EMF is based on the principle that the error between the actual current and the estimated current is proportional to that of the extended EMF. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed sensorless control method.

＜正＞This study describes the effect of post-cure time on initial damage and damage progress of plain woven glass fabric composites. First, microdroplet tests are conducted to evaluate the interfacial properties between glass fiber and resin for post-cure. Secondly, quasi-static tensile tests are carried out in order to measure the stress-strain curves, the knee point stress, fracture strength, Young’ s modulus of plain woven glass fabric composite lamina for each post-cure condition. Finally, the effect or transverse cracking behavior in weft of this composite is investigated experimentally by means of the measurement of the number of the transverse crack in plain woven fabric composite lamina. It is clarified that the interfacial shear strength of fiber/matrix interface increases and the long-term post-cure time degrades the interfacial shear strength because of the existence of the crack in microdroplet. The mid-term post-cure time increases knee point strength as well as interfacial shear strength while the long-term post-cure time degraded knee point strength. It is found that the initial damage of plain woven fabric composite lamina appears later and the transverse crack developed slower by means of post-cure, because of the increase of interfacial strength, the decrease of the shrinkage strain and the increase of knee point strength. Furthermore, it is noted that the damage progress of the lamina for long-term post-cure time is faster in order to degrade mechanical properties of fiber/matrix interface.

Our previous research showed that aliphatic amines were put in order of high reactivity as “ethylamine > ammonia > t-butylamine > diethylamine” on the aromatic nucleophilic substitution of 1-dimetylamino-2,4-bis(trifluoroacetyl)-naphthalene 1 in acetonitrile. The DFT calculation study (B3LYP/6-31G* with solvation model) for the reactions of 1 with above four amines rationally explained the difference of each amines reactivity based on the energies of their Meisenheimer complexes 3 which are assumed to formed as the reaction intermediates in the course of the reaction giving the corresponding N-N exchange products 2. Intramolecular hydrogen bond between amino proton in 1-amino group and carbonyl oxygen in 2-trifluoroacetyl group stabilizes Meisenheimer complexes 3 effectively, and accelerates the substitution reaction from 1 to 2. Our calculation results also predicted that the above order of amines is also true if less polar toluene is used as a solvent instead of acetonitrile even though more enhanced conditions are required.

Care prevention comprises an integral part of long-term care in Japan and is provided across the following populations: those without problems when screened by the Basic Check List (BCL, Type 1), those having problems when screened by the BCL (Type 2), and those certified in the “support need levels” by the long-term care insurance eligibility assessment (Type 3). We aimed to clarify the care prevention needs across these three populations by using the interRAI Check-Up, an internationally developed instrument. We conducted cross-sectional surveys to assess care prevention needs for convenience samples of community-dwelling older adults in two cities in western Japan from October 2016 to December 2017, and we integrated the secondary data of older adults’ assessment from September 2014 to June 2018. Prevalence rates of nine domains of care prevention needs were calculated. Among the 125 participants, 20 were Type 1, 23 were Type 2, and 82 were Type 3. All three types had the following needs that had not been assessed in the BCL: pains, risk of hospital-emergency room visits, driving reviews, and instrumental activities of daily living capacity. The results showed that interventions for a wide range of care prevention needs should be considered in the long-term care prevention project.

To increase the capacity of the negative electrode for lithium-ion secondary batteries, we prepared Si-containing carbon microspheres. The target compound was obtained by thermal decomposition of hexaphenyldisilane embedded in porous carbon particles that contained Si-nanoparticles characterized by various methods. When charging/discharging characteristics were evaluated using a cell having the obtained material as a negative electrode, a remarkable improvement in charging characteristics was observed.

Aim: The aim of this mixed methods research was to develop an educational comic booklet to prevent pregnant women’s exposure to secondhand smoke. Methods: We assessed the suitability of the comic booklet by measuring participant response to content, literacy demand, graphics, layout and typography, learning stimulation, motivation, and cultural appropriateness. The participants were 17 Indonesians living in Japan who were recruited through Respondent-Driven-Sampling and met all criteria for the survey. Means and standard deviations were used to determine the suitability of the educational comic. Results: About 80% of participants rated the comic as “superior” on a rating scale with options of “superior”, “adequate”, “not suitable”, or “not applicable”. The most successful aspects of the comic were content and cultural appropriateness, as it provided clear contents and the graphics showed realistic Indonesian smoking behavior. The least successful aspect of the comic was the literacy demand because there were long sentences using difficult words. Conclusions: The results of this study may be used to conduct a randomized controlled trial using this comic booklet with some modifications.

AIM： To determine the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori （H pylori） among dyspeptic patients and to assess the relationship between Hpylori infection, blood group, HIV infection and life style of the patients. METHODS： In a hospital-based cross-sectional study, patients attending Outpatient Department of University of Gondar Hospital were enrolled. Socio-demographic information was collected using questionnaires. Serum was analyzed for anti-H pylori IgG antibodies using a commercial kit. HIV serostatus was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay （ELISA）. Blood grouping was performed by slide agglutination tests. RESULTS： A total of 215 dyspeptic patients were included in the study. One hundred and sixteen patients （54%） were females and 99 （46%） were males. Anti-H pylori IgG antibodies were detected in sera of 184 （85.6%） patients. The prevalence was significantly higher in patients aged 50 years and above. Twenty point five percent of the patients were found to be seropositive for HIV. No significant association was found between sex, ABO blood groups, consumption of spicy diets, socioeconomic status and seropositivity for Hpylori. However,alcohol consumption was significantly associated with H pylori serology. CONCLUSION： The prevalence of H pylori infection is associated with a history of alcohol intake and older age. The effect of different diet, alcohol and socioeconomic status as risk factors for H pylori infection needs further study.
