Age-dependent changes in the association between sleep duration and impaired glucose metabolism

Aim To investigate whether the association between sleep duration and impaired glucose metabolism varies among younger and older *** We reviewed data of self-reported habitual sleep duration per night, HbA1c levels, and clinically relevant factors in a cross-sectional checkup database of 75472 Japanese from the general population aged 20-79 years(51695 men and 23777 women). Associations of prediabetes(HbA1c ≥ 5.7% and/or diabetic pharmacotherapy) or diabetes(HbA1c ≥ 6.5% and/or diabetic pharmacotherapy) with short and long sleep durations compared with a reference sleep duration(7 h) were investigated by multivariate logistic regression analysis. We controlled for potential relevant confounders, including age, sex, and work duration per day according to younger and older *** As age advanced, sleep duration became longer and this increase in the 40 s and 50 s was two times greater in men than in women. This finding was accompanied by a deterioration in HbA1c levels. In subjects aged youngerthan 40 years(n = 32929), HbA1c levels were inversely and linearly correlated with sleep duration in both sexes. However, in subjects aged 40 years or older(n = 42543), HbA1c levels showed a non-linear relationship against sleep duration with a nadir at 7 h. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that in younger subjects, short durations of sleep(≤ 5 h and 6 h) were positively associated with prediabetes(both P < 0.001), but a long duration of sleep(≥ 8 h) was inversely associated with prediabetes(P < 0.001). These associations remained significant after adjustment for relevant confounders, including age, sex, and work duration per day(ORs = 1.20, 95%CI: 1.05-1.37, P < 0.001; ORs = 1.12, 95%CI: 1.02-1.24, P < 0.05; and ORs = 0.84, 95%CI: 0.72-0.99, P < 0.05, respectively). Pulsed wire discharge(PWD) is one of nano-sized powder production methods. The object of this work is to study influence of the plasma/vapor/particle density using computer simulation and to establish temperature measurement method using a high-speed infrared thermometer in the PWD process. The temperature correction coefficient was obtained from geometric computer simulation results. Obtained correction coefficient was applied to the temperature measuring results. It was found from this result that obtained correction coefficient was appropriate. A temperature measurement method was established by using the high-speed infrared thermometer in PWD.

Background: Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) have some protective benefits for patients with coronary artery and cerebrovascular diseases. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) drugs are prescribed as branded (B: EPADEL?) or generic products but no data exist concerning the differences in treatment outcomes between these products. Methods and Results: We investigated the differences in the serum levels of EPA, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and arachidonic acid (AA), and the EPA/AA ratios through blood sampling six months after daily administration of 1800 mg of EPADEL? and a generic EPA drug was initiated for 96 patients with cardiovascular diseases. All patients received these PUFA treatments while continuing with baseline therapy. After 6 months of administration, EPADEL? produced better results than the generic (G) product (EPA;baseline: 59.4 ± 25.5 μg, B: 215.5 ± 58.8 μg, G: 199.7 ± 63.8 μg, B vs G, p < 0.0005;AA;base

The Interacting Generalized Ricci Dark Energy Model in Non-Flat Universe

We extend our previous analysis and consider the interacting holographic Ricci dark energy (IRDE) model in non-flat universe. We study astrophysical constraints on this model using the recent observations including the type Ia supernovae (SNIa), the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO), the cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy, and the Hubble parameter. It is shown that the allowed parameter range for the fractional energy density of the curvature is ?in the presence of the interactions between dark energy and matter. Without the interaction, the flat universe is observationally disfavored in this model.

目的研究个体化护理在老年精神病患者中的价值。方法将126例老年精神病患者以入院时间分为2组,每组63例。一组为对照组,应用常规护理;一组为观察组,实施个体化护理。观察对比2组的护理质量及日常生活能力,护理前后的精神病症状评分与生活质量。结果观察组在安全护理、病房管理、感染控制、基础护理及护理文化水平方面的护理质量评分指标高于对照组,差异存在显著性(P<0.05)。观察组护理后的洗漱、如厕、穿衣、进食和活动等各项日常生活能力评分指标高于对照组,差异存在显著性(P<0.05)。观察组护理后的BPRS评分、生活质量评分均高于对照组,差异存在显著性(P<0.05)。结论老年精神病患者应用个体化护理的效果优于常规护理,能提升护理质量,增强日常生活能力,促进精神病症状改善和生活质量提升,值得推广。

Synthesis of Polyfluorene-Polytriarylamine Block Copolymer with Emitting Part at Junction Point for Light Emitting Applications

A block copolymer consisting of polyfluorene (PF) and polytriarylamine (PTAA) functionalized with green emitting phenoxazine moiety at the junction point of two blocks was designed and prepared for electroluminescent application. PF homopolymer was synthesized by Suzuki coupling polymerization, and was reacted with brominated phenoxazine. In the presence of the resulting PF functionalized with phenoxazine, C-N coupling polymerization of 4-(4’-bromophenyl)-4’’-butyldiphenylamine was carried out to afford a triblock copolymer, PTAA-phenoxazine-PF-phenoxazine-PTAA (PF-Ph-PTAA). Two types of random copolymers were also synthesized with fluorene and phenoxazine (PF2) by Suzuki coupling polymerization for comparison. All the polymers were soluble in common organic solvents and readily formed thin films by a solution processing. Prepared polymers exhibited similar UV absorption and PL emission in chloroform solutions. In a film state, the existence of phenoxazine unit drastically changed PL spectra. Although the content of phenoxazine unit in PF-Ph-PTAA was relatively high (13 mol%), it showed similar PL spectrum to that of PF2(phenoxazine content, 0.2 mol%) indicating that phenoxazine unit is isolated in single polymer chain nevertheless the high content. EL device based on PF-Ph-PTAA showed green-emission, suggesting that emission sites predominantly located in the vicinity of phenoxazine moiety because of its shallow HOMO level.

An Iteration Method to Solve the Boundary Layer Flow past a Flat Plate

An iteration method similar to the thin-wing-expansion method for the compressible flow has been proposed to solve the boundary layer flow past a flat plate. Using such an iteration, the first step of which is Oseen’s approximation, the boundary layer past a flat plate is studied. As proceeding from the first approximation to the second and third approximations, it is realized that our solution approaches to a well known Howarth’s bench mark one gradually. Hence, it is concluded that the usefulness of the present method has been confirmed.
