A Method for Detecting Non-Mask Wearers Based on Regression Analysis

Experimental Investigation of Aerodynamic Performance due to Blade Tip Clearance in a Gas Turbine Rotor Cascade

This study examines how the complex flow structure within a gas turbine rotor affects aerodynamic loss. An unshrouded linear turbine cascade was built, and velocity and pressure fields were measured using a 5-hole probe. In order to elucidate the effect of tip clearance, the overall aerodynamic loss was evaluated by varying the tip clearance and examining the total pressure field for each case. The tip clearance was varied from 0% to 4.2% of blade span and the chord length based Reynolds number was fixed at 2×10^(5). For the case without tip clearance, a wake downstream of the blade trailing edge is observed, along with hub and tip passage vortices. These flow structures result in profile loss at the center of the blade span, and passage vortex related losses towards the hub and tip. As the tip clearance increases, a tip leakage vortex is formed, and it becomes stronger and eventually alters the tip passage vortex. Because of the interference of the secondary tip leakage flow with the main flow, the streamwise velocity decreases while the total pressure loss increases significantly by tenfold in the last 30% blade span region towards the tip for the 4.2% tip clearance case. It was additionally observed that the overall aerodynamic loss increases linearly with tip clearance.

A Molecular Modeling for the Complexation of Cyclobis(paraquat-p-phenylene) with Substituted Benzenes and Biphenyls

Molecular orbital PM3 calculation was performed on the complexation of cyclobis(paraquat-p-phenylene) with a number of 1,4-disubstituted benzenes and biphenyl derivatives. A fair correlation was found between the PM3 calculated binding energies and the experimental ones, which enabled the PM3 calculation to predict thc experimental binding energies for a number of important complexes. A good structure-activity relationship was also found between the PM3 calculated binding energies and the substituent molar refraction R-m and Hammett constants. indicating that the van der Waals force and the electronic interactions constituted the major driving forces for the complexation of cyclobis(paraquat-p-phenylene).

Expert perspective on technological choice for cooking energy transition in Nepal

A Sophisticated Network of Signaling Pathways Regulates Stomatal Defenses to Bacterial Pathogens

Guard cells are specialized cells forming stomatal pores at the leaf surface for gas exchanges between the plant and the atmosphere. Stomata have been shown to playan important role in plant defense as a part of the innate immune response. Plants actively close their stomata upon contact with microbes, thereby preventing pathogen entry into the leaves and the subsequent colonization of host tissues. In this review, we present current knowledge of molecular mechanisms and signaling pathways implicated in stomatal defenses, with particular emphasis on plant-bacteria interactions. Stomatal defense responses begin from the perception of pathogen-associated molecular patterns （PAMPs） and activate a signaling cascade involving the production of secondary messengers such as reactive oxygen species, nitric oxide, and calcium for the regulation of plasma membrane ion channels. The analyses on downstream molecular mechanisms implicated in PAMP-triggered stomatal closure have revealed extensive interplays among the components regulating hormonal signaling pathways. We also discuss the strategies deployed by pathogenic bacteria to counteract stomatal immunity through the example of the phytotoxin coronatine.

Background The primary differentially methylated regions(DMRs) which are maternally hypermethylated serve as imprinting control regions(ICRs) that drive monoallelic gene expression, and these ICRs have been investigated due to their implications in mammalian development. Although a subset of genes has been identified as imprinted, in-depth comparative approach needs to be developed for identification of species-specific imprinted genes. Here, we examined DNA methylation status and allelic expression at the KBTBD6 locus across species and tissues and explored potential mechanisms of *** Using whole-genome bisulfite sequencing and RNA-sequencing on parthenogenetic and normal porcine embryos, we identified a maternally hypermethylated DMR between the embryos at the KBTBD6 promoter Cp G island and paternal monoallelic expression of KBTBD6. Also, in analyzed domesticated mammals but not in humans, non-human primates and mice, the KBTBD6 promoter Cp G islands were methylated in oocytes and/or allelically methyl-ated in tissues, and monoallelic KBTBD6 expression was observed, indicating livestock-specific imprinting. Further analysis revealed that these Cp G islands were embedded within transcripts in porcine and bovine oocytes which coexisted with an active transcription mark and DNA methylation, implying the presence of transcription-dependent *** In this study, our comparative approach revealed an imprinted expression of the KBTBD6 gene in domesticated mammals, but not in humans, non-human primates, and mice which implicates species-specific evolution of genomic imprinting.

Non-invasive measurement and validation of tissue oxygen saturation covered with overlying tissues

In this paper, the biological tissue oxygen saturation (rSO2) is obtained non-invasively and in real time based on near infrared spec-troscopy (NIRS) using two emitting wavelengths and two detectors, where the tissue is covered with overlying *** group devel-oped an NIRS oximeter based on the above principle independently, and validated it using liquid tissue model calibrations and animal *** results indicate that (1) in the normal range of tissue oxygen saturation (40-70%), the rSO2 measured by NIRS is accu-rate enough and little infiuenced by the background absorptions (such as the absorption of water) and overlying tissues (such as fat);(2) during cerebral hypoxia and recovery of three piglets, there is excellent correlation (p < 0.001) between cerebral rSO2 and jugular venous oxygen saturation (SjO2), meaning that the rSO2 can be indicated by the SjO2 to a large extent;during the death of the three piglets induced by heart beat stopping, cerebral rSO2 decreases continuously to significantly low levels (<25%) because cerebral blood supply does not exist any *** the above results are of explicit physiological importance.

Fault tolerant two-step quantum secure direct communication protocol against collective noises

This work proposes two fault tolerant quantum secure direct communication （QSDC） protocols which are robust against two kinds of collective noises： the collective-dephasing noises and the collective-rotation noises, respectively. The two QSDC protocols are constructed from four-qubit DF states which consist of two logical qubits. The receiver simply performs two Bell state measurements （rather than four-qubit joint measurements） to obtain the secret message. The protocols have qubit efficiency twice that of the other corresponding fault tolerant QSDC protocols. Furthermore, the proposed protocols are free from Trojan horse attacks.

The role of testosterone in the cardiovascular （CV） health of men is controversial. Data suggest that both the condition and treatment of clinical hypogonadism is associated with decreased CV mortality; however, two recent studies suggest that hypogonadal subjects treated with testosterone replacement therapy have a higher incidence of new CV events. There has been increased media attention concerning the risk of CV disease in men treated with testosterone. Until date, there are no long-term prospective studies to determine safety. Literature spanning over the past 30 years has suggested that not only is there a possible increased CV risk in men with low levels of testosterone, but the benefits from testosterone therapy may even lower this risk. We review here the recent studies that have garnered such intense scrutiny. This article is intended as a thorough review of testosterone levels and CV risk, providing the clinician with the facts needed to make informed clinical decisions in managing patients with clinical hypogonadism.
