Effect of Carboxymethyl Cellulose(CMC) Functionalization on Dispersion, Mechanical, and Corrosion Properties of CNT/Epoxy Nanocomposites

Carbon nanotube(CNT)/epoxy nanocomposites have a great potential of possessing many advanced properties.However,the homogenization of CNT dispersion is still a great challenge in the research field of nanocomposites.This study applied a novel dispersion agent,carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC),to functionalize CNTs and improve CNT dispersion in epoxy.The effectiveness of the CMC functionalization was compared with mechanical mixing and a commonly used surfactant,sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate(Na DDBS),regarding dispersion,mechanical and corrosion properties of CNT/epoxy nanocomposites with three different CNT concentrations(0.1%,0.3%and 0.5%).The experimental results of Raman spectroscopy,particle size analysis and transmission electron microscopy showed that CMC functionalized CNTs reduced CNT cluster sizes more efficiently than Na DDBS functionalized and mechanically mixed CNTs,indicating a better CNT dispersion.The peak particle size of CMC functionalized CNTs reduced as much as 54%(0.1%CNT concentration)and 16%(0.3%CNT concentration),compared to mechanical mixed and Na DDBS functionalized CNTs.Because of the better dispersion,it was found by compressive tests that CNT/epoxy nanocomposites with CMC functionalization resulted in 189%and 66%higher compressive strength,224%and 50%higher modulus of elasticity than those with mechanical mixing and Na DDBS functionalization respectively(0.1%CNT cencentration).In addition,electrochemical corrosion tests also showed that CNT/epoxy nanocomposites with CMC functionalization achieved lowest corrosion rate(0.214 mpy),the highest corrosion resistance(201.031Ω·cm^(2)),and the lowest porosity density(0.011%).

Development and validation of a predictive model for the assessment of potassium-lowering treatment among hyperkalemia patients

BACKGROUND:Hyperkalemia is common among patients in emergency department and is associated with mortality.While,there is a lack of good evaluation and prediction methods for the effi cacy of potassium-lowering treatment,making the drug dosage adjustment quite diffi cult.We aimed to develop a predictive model to provide early forecasting of treating eff ects for hyperkalemia patients.METHODS:Around 80%of hyperkalemia patients(n=818)were randomly selected as the training dataset and the remaining 20%(n=196)as the validating dataset.According to the serum potassium(K+)levels after the fi rst round of potassium-lowering treatment,patients were classifi ed into the eff ective and ineff ective groups.Multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to develop a prediction model.The receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve and calibration curve analysis were used for model validation.RESULTS:In the training dataset,429 patients had favorable eff ects after treatment(eff ective group),and 389 had poor therapeutic outcomes(ineff ective group).Patients in the ineff ective group had a higher percentage of renal disease(P=0.007),peripheral edema(P<0.001),oliguria(P=0.001),or higher initial serum K+level(P<0.001).The percentage of insulin usage was higher in the effective group than in the ineff ective group(P=0.005).After multivariate logistic regression analysis,we found age,peripheral edema,oliguria,history of kidney transplantation,end-stage renal disease,insulin,and initial serum K+were all independently associated with favorable treatment eff ects.CONCLUSION:The predictive model could provide early forecasting of therapeutic outcomes for hyperkalemia patients after drug treatment,which could help clinicians to identify hyperkalemia patients with high risk and adjust the dosage of medication for potassium-lowering.

Co-Frequency Interference Analysis Between Ultra-Large-Scale NGSO Constellations and GSO Systems

The rejuvenation of non-geostationary orbit(NGSO)satellite communication holds the promise of seamless and ubiquitous broadband access from the space.However,the NGSO constellations must share the scarce radio spectrum resources with geostationary orbit(GSO)satellite systems,which results in dynamically changing and unevenly distributed interference to GSO systems.In this context,the ultra-large-scale NGSO constellation incurs a more complicated interference environment with GSO systems,which raises urgent demands on inter-system interference evaluation.In this case,we investigate the inter-system downlink interference from a NGSO satellite mega-constellation to a GSO earth station.Specifically,we consider the scenario where the NGSO and GSO earth stations are co-located,and apply a novel visibility analysis method in the interference modeling to reduce computation redundancy.The interference evaluation is then performed through comprehensive simulations,in which the Starlink constellation with more than 4000 satellites is examined for the first time.The simulation results demonstrate various states of interference on the GSO earth station at different deployment locations.It reveals that the number of visible satellites could influence the angle between the main lobe directions of NGSO satellites and the GSO earth station antenna,which further affects the interference level.

Adaptive Dimensional Learning with a Tolerance Framework for the Differential Evolution Algorithm

The Differential Evolution(DE)algorithm,which is an efficient optimization algorithm,has been used to solve various optimization problems.In this paper,adaptive dimensional learning with a tolerance framework for DE is proposed.The population is divided into an elite subpopulation,an ordinary subpopulation,and an inferior subpopulation according to the fitness values.The ordinary and elite subpopulations are used to maintain the current evolution state and to guide the evolution direction of the population,respectively.The inferior subpopulation learns from the elite subpopulation through the dimensional learning strategy.If the global optimum is not improved in a specified number of iterations,a tolerance mechanism is applied.Under the tolerance mechanism,the inferior and elite subpopulations implement the restart strategy and the reverse dimensional learning strategy,respectively.In addition,the individual status and algorithm status are used to adaptively adjust the control parameters.To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm,six state-of-the-art DE algorithm variants are compared on the benchmark functions.The results of the simulation show that the proposed algorithm outperforms other variant algorithms regarding function convergence rate and solution accuracy.

Hierarchical utilization of raw Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) MXene for fast preparation of various Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) MXene derivatives

Due to easy re-stacking,low yield of few-layered MXenes(f-MXenes),the applications of MXenes are mainly restricted in multi-layered MXenes(m-MXenes)state.Although f-MXenes can be prepared from m-MXenes,after exfoliation process,a mass of sediments which are still essentially compact MXenes are usually directly discarded,leading to low utilization of raw m-MXenes.Herein,a classified preparation strategy is adopted to exploit the raw m-MXenes and traditional MXenes sediments,taking multi-layered Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)MXene as an example.Via rational delamination and subsequent treatment to Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)sediments,we succeed in achieving classified and large-scale preparation of various Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)MXene derivatives,including few-layered Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)(f-Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x))powders,f-Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)films,and Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)MXene-derived nanowires with heterostructure of potassium titanate and Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x).We demonstrate the necessity of“step-by-step delamination”towards traditional Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)sediments to improve the yield of f-Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)from 15%to 72%;the feasibility of“solution-phase flocculation(SPF)”to fundamentally solve the re-stacking phenomenon,and oxidation degradation issues of f-Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)during storage;as well as the convenience of SPF to deal with time-consuming issues of fabricating Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)films.What’s more,alkali-heat treatment of final Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)sediments turns waste into treasure of Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)-derived nanowires,leading to 100%utilization of raw Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x).The content of one-dimensional(1D)nanowires in the hybrids can be adjusted by controlling alkalization time.The 3D architecture heterostructure composed of 1D nanowires and 2D nanosheets exhibits gorgeous application potential.This work can expand preparation and application of various MXenes derivatives,promoting process of various MXenes.

Design of a 3D mixed conducting scaffold toward stable metallic sodium anodes

Metallic sodium anodes have attracted great attention because of their high capacity and low redox potential.However,they still encounter various challenges in stripping/plating efficiency and cycling stability due to dendrite formation and the large volume fluctuation.To address these issues,here we engineer a three-dimensional(3D)mixed conducting scaffold for metallic sodium anodes in which an interconnected ion-conductive pathway is incorporated by adding active additives,which firmly bond with sodium at high temperature.Further incorporation of a 3D Ni foam offers the electron transport pathway with inherent high electronic conductivity.Such a 3D mixed conducting scaffold can also lower the local current density and alleviate volume fluctuation effectively,which ensures a homogeneous ion distribution and long cycle lifespan.Our results provide an important insight into the design of high stability and high-safe metallic sodium anodes.

As a novel class of spirofluorenes,spirobifluorene(SBF)and spiro[fluo-rene-9,9'-xanthene]derivatives(SFXs)have orthogonal geometric config-uration,spiro-conjugation effect,and rigid steric hindrance,which can be widely used in the fields of synthetic chemistry,materials chemistry and supramolecular chemistry.Due to their facile one-pot synthetic route,and to the variety of molecular designs,SFXs are expected to become new spiro functional materials that replace SBF.In this review,we present the history,development and expansion of SFXs synthesis in one-pot methods,and the advantages and limitations of one-pot synthesis are also dis-cussed.

Effect of Acupuncture on Endometrial Blood Flow in Women Undergoing in vitro Fertilization Embryo Transfer: A Single Blind, Randomized Controlled Trial

Objective: To evaluate the effect of manual acupuncture on endometrial blood flow parameters by three-dimensional(3D) power Doppler ultrasound in women undergoing in vitro fertilization embryo transfer(IVF-ET). Methods: Seventy patients undergoing IVF-ET were equally randomized into traditional or sham acupuncture treatment group for totally 4 days(from the day of oocyte aspiration to the day of embryo transfer) of treatment by random envelope method at the Reproductive Medicine Center and Outpatient Department of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medicine College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology from January 2013 to December 2015. Patients in the traditional acupuncture group accepted traditional acupuncture methods with manual acupuncture, and Zhongji(CV3), Qihai(CV 6), Sanyinjiao(SP6), Taichong(LR 3), Tianshu(ST 25), Guilai(ST 29) and Zusanli(ST 36) were chosen. Patients at the sham acupuncture group accepted shallow acupuncture methods at 4 non-meridian points at each shoulder and upper arm. Outcome measures included endometrial ultrasonic indices such as vascularization index(VI), flow index(FI) and vascularization flow index(VFI), endometrial thickness and volume, subendometrial VI(sVI), subendometrial FI(sFI), subendometrial VFI(sVFI), implantation rate, clinical pregnancy rate, abortion rate, live birth rate and number of live births. Results: Finally, 34 patients in the traditional acupuncture group and 35 in the sham acupuncture group completed this trial. VI, FI and VFI of the traditional acupuncture group were significantly higher than those in the sham acupuncture group(P0.05). Conclusions: Manual acupuncture performed after oocyte aspiration and before transplantation improved the endometrial blood flow parametersVI, RI and VFI in women

More children nutrition distribution, less labor incentive: Evidence from Chinese collective agriculture

Distribution system will affect the labor incentive that has been heatedly discussed by recent literatures.Using a unique micro dataset, this paper dem on strates that the equalitaria n distributi on system is one of the reas ons for the in sufficie nt labor incentive during the Chinese Collective Agriculture period. Specifically speaking, in the distribution of basic rations, the proportion for children (aged 1-3 and 4-7 years) was often beyond their nutrition demand, resulting the dissatisfaction of other families with more laborers and less children, thus these households will reduce their labor supply gradually. At the same time, the existence of outstanding accounts makes it a failure to use work points to buy distributions, which is the mechanism of the distribution system and insufficient labor incentive. All the results have been accepted by the robustness tests. The study will help to understand the distribution system and labor incentive, as well as the failure of the Chinese collective agriculture.

The influence of the gut microbiota on the bioavailability of oral drugs

Due to its safety,convenience,low cost and good compliance,oral administration attracts lots of attention.However,the efficacy of many oral drugs is limited to their unsatisfactory bioavailability in the gastrointestinal tract.One of the critical and most overlooked factors is the symbiotic gut microbiota that can modulate the bioavailability of oral drugs by participating in the biotransformation of oral drugs,influencing the drug transport process and altering some gastrointestinal properties.In this review,we summarized the existing research investigating the possible relationship between the gut microbiota and the bioavailability of oral drugs,which may provide great ideas and useful instructions for the design of novel drug delivery systems or the achievement of personalized medicine.
