The leader-following asymptotic consensus problem for general discrete-time linear multi-agent systems over jointly con-nected switching networks was solved about a decade ago.Recently,the leader-following exponential consensus was further established using the so-called Krasovskii-LaSalle theorem for a class of discrete-time linear switched systems.But this method involves some advanced concepts such as the weak zero-state detectability of some limiting system.In this paper,we offer a simpler solution to the leader-following exponential consensus problem for general discrete-time linear multi-agent systems over jointly connected switching networks.After converting the solvability of the problem to the establishment of the exponential stability for a class of discrete-time linear switched systems,we first show that this class of linear switched systems is uniformly completely observable.Then,we further conclude that the uniform complete observability for this class of linear switched systems implies the exponential stability for the same class of linear switched systems,thus leading to the solution of the leader-following exponential consensus problem.Moreover,our approach also gives rise to an explicit characterization of the exponential convergence rate of the leader-following consensus problem.

Pore Connectivity of Deep Lacustrine Shale and its Effect on Gas-bearing Characteristics in the Songliao Basin:Implications from Continental Scientific Drilling

The lacustrine shale of deep Shahezi Formation in the Songliao basin has great gas potential,but its pore evolution,heterogeneity,and connectivity characteristics remain unclear.In this work,total organic carbon analysis,rock pyrolysis,X-ray diffraction field emission scanning electron microscopy,the particle and crack analysis system software,low-temperature nitrogen adsorption experiment,fractal theory,high-pressure mercury injection experiment and nuclear magnetic resonance experiment were used to study the Shahezi shale from Well SK-2.The result indicated that the organic pores in Shahezi shale are not developed,and the intergranular and intragranular pores are mainly formed by illitedominated clay.As the burial depth increases,the pore size and slit-shaped pores formed by clay decrease,and dissolved pores in the feldspar and carbonate minerals and dissolved fractures in the quartz increase.The pore evolution is affected by clay,compaction,and high-temperature corrosion.Based on the pore structure characteristics reflected by the pore size distribution and pore structure parameters obtained by multiple experimental methods,the pore development and evolution are divided into three stages.During stageⅠandⅡ,the pore heterogeneity of the shale reservoirs increases with the depth,the physical properties and pore connectivity deteriorate,but the gas-bearing property is good.In stageⅢ,the pore heterogeneity is the highest,its gas generation and storage capacity are low,but the increase of micro-fractures makes pore connectivity and gas-bearing better.

In this paper,we consider the robust output containment problem of linear heterogeneous multi-agent systems under fixed directed networks.A distributed dynamic observer based on the leaders’measurable output was designed to estimate a convex combination of the leaders’states.First,for the case of followers with identical state dimensions,distributed dynamic state and output feedback control laws were designed based on the state-coupled item and the internal model compensator to drive the uncertain followers into the leaders’convex hull within the output regulation framework.Subsequently,we extended theoretical results to the case where followers have nonidentical state dimensions.By establishing virtual errors between the dynamic observer and followers,a new distributed dynamic output feedback control law was constructed using only the states of the compensator to solve the robust output containment problem.Finally,two numerical simulations verified the effectiveness of the designed schemes.

The Climate Response to Global Forest Area Changes under Different Warming Scenarios in China

Human activities have notably affected the Earth’s climate through greenhouse gases(GHG), aerosol, and land use/land cover change(LULCC). To investigate the impact of forest changes on regional climate under different shared socioeconomic pathways(SSPs), changes in surface air temperature and precipitation over China under low and medium/high radiative forcing scenarios from 2021 to 2099 are analyzed using multimodel climate simulations from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6(CMIP6). Results show that the climate responses to forest changes are more significant under the low radiative forcing scenario. Deforestation would increase the mean, interannual variability, and the trend of surface air temperature under the low radiative forcing scenario, but it would decrease those indices under the medium/high radiative forcing scenario. The changes in temperature show significant spatial heterogeneity. For precipitation, under the low radiative forcing scenario, deforestation would lead to a significant increase in northern China and a significant decrease in southern China, and the effects are persistent in the near term(2021–40), middle term(2041–70), and long term(2071–99). In contrast, under the medium/high radiative forcing scenario, precipitation increases in the near term and long term over most parts of China, but it decreases in the middle term, especially in southern, northern,and northeast China. The magnitude of precipitation response to deforestation remains comparatively small.

This paper studies the distributed Nash equilibrium seeking(DNES)problem for games whose action sets are compact and whose network graph is switching satisfying the jointly strongly connected condition.To keep the actions of all players in their action sets all the time,one has to resort to the projected gradient-based method.Under the assumption that the unique Nash equilibrium is the unique equilibrium of the pseudogradient system,an algorithm is proposed that is able to exponentially find the Nash equilibrium.Further,the authors also consider the distributed Nash equilibrium seeking problem for games whose actions are governed by high-order integrator dynamics and belong to some compact sets.Two examples are used to illustrate the proposed approach.

In this paper, we study the leader-following rendezvous and flocking problems for a class of second-order nonlinear multi- agent systems, which contain both external disturbances and plant uncertainties. What differs our problems from the conventional leader-following consensus problem is that we need to preserve the connectivity of the communication graph instead of assuming the connectivity of the communication graph. By integrating the adaptive control technique, the distributed observer method and the potential function method, the two problems are both solved. Finally, we apply our results to a group of van der Pol oscillators.

Online temperature estimation of Shell coal gasification process based on extended Kalman filter

Obtaining the temperature inside the gasifier of a Shell coal gasification process(SCGP)in real-time is very important for safe process operation.However,this temperature cannot be measured directly due to the harsh operating condition.Estimating this temperature using the extended Kalman filter(EKF)based on a simplified mechanistic model is proposed in this paper.The gasifier is partitioned into three zones.The quench pipe and the transfer duct are seen as two additional zones.A simplified mechanistic model is developed in each zone and formulated as a state-space representation.The temperature in each zone is estimated by the EKF in real-time.The proposed method is applied to an industrial SCGP and the effectiveness of the estimated temperatures is verified by a process variable both qualitatively and quan-titatively.The prediction capability of the simplified mechanistic model is validated.The effectiveness of the proposed method is further verified by comparing it to a Kalman filter-based single-zone temperature estimation method.

Grain security is one of the most important issues worldwide.Many developing countries,including China,have adopted the Agriculture Support Price(ASP)program to stimulate farmers’enthusiasm for growing grain,to ensure self-sufficiency in grain and the stable development of the grain market.To propose decision support for the government in designing a more reasonable support price in the ASP program,we formulate an agent-based model to simulate the operation of the wheat market in the harvest period.To formulate the formation process of the market price influenced by farmers’expected sale price,processors’expected purchase price,and the ASP,the time series and regression methods are adopted.Based on the proposed market price model,to quantitatively analyze the grain transaction process and the ASP program’s impacts on market agents,we develop an agent-based simulation model to describe the adaptive evolution and interaction among market agents.Furthermore,we validate and implement the simulation model with public wheat market data.Finally,insights and suggestions about the decision of the ASP program are provided.
