Experimental Study on Diesel Spray and Flame Asymmetry Characteristics of Dual-Orifice Nozzles for a Medium-Speed Engine

The asymmetry of the multi-orifice spray will cause uneven heat load of the marine diesel engine,thereby affecting its working performance and service ***,an in-depth understanding of the spray and flame characteristics of multi-orifice nozzles will guide the optimization of the nozzle structure,needle design and diesel atomization and combustion *** this reason,four groups of dual-orifice nozzles with different hole diameters(0.1-0.55 mm)and mass flow rates covering the typical marine medium-speed diesel injections are designed and customized,and the constant volume chamber(CVC)with high temperature and pressure is used to simulate the actual in-cylinder working conditions of the diesel engine for the spray visualization *** study the asymmetry of the fuel sprays discharged from a diesel injector,the multi-orifice nozzle is simplified as a dual-orifice nozzle in this *** with X-ray Computed Tomography(CT)imaging technology,the influences of the nozzle internal structure on the spray and flame asymmetry are studied in the constructed supercritical *** is found that the asymmetry of the inlet angle and the equivalent length-diameter ratio is positively correlated with the inconsistency of the dual *** an increase in the injection pressure and nozzle diameter,the asymmetry of the dual spray becomes more pronounced,resulting in greater disparities in the ignition delay times and ignition positions of the two ***,the increase in nozzle diameter also leads to combustion instability,resulting in a flame with a serrated *** the increase of ambient temperature,the proportion of liquid phase in the jet decreases and the relative density of spray front decreases.

Gastrointestinal malignancies encompass cancers of the esophagus,stomach,pancreas,liver,gallbladder,biliary tract,colon,and *** to the 2020 global cancer statistics,gastrointestinal malignancies accounted for approximately 26.4%of all new cancer cases and 36.3%of new deaths(Text S1 online)[1–3].The high incidence and mortality of gastrointestinal malignancies pose a tremendous threat to human *** significant strides in the management of advanced and metastatic gastrointestinal malignancies(Text S2 online),they frequently prove incurable,with 5-year survival rates consistently remaining<20%across various affected sites[4,5].Emerging evidence increasingly underscores the promising therapeutic potential of mRNA vaccines in the field of cancer *** vaccines offer several advantages over traditional strategies(Texts S3 and S4 online)[6–8].Here,we discuss the recent progress and future perspectives of m RNA vaccines in gastrointestinal malignancies.

Polydopamine-modified biochar supported polylactic acid and zero-valent iron affects the functional microbial community structure for 1,1,1-trichloroethane removal in simulated groundwater

In-situ enhanced bioreduction by functional materials is a cost-effective technology to remove chlorinated hydrocarbons in ***,a novel polydopamine(PDA)-modified biochar(BC)-based composite containing nanoscale zero-valent iron(n ZVI)and poly-l-lactic acid(PLLA)(PB-PDA-Fe)was synthesized to enhance the removal of 1,1,1-trichloroethane(1,1,1-TCA)in simulated groundwater with actual site *** impact on functional microbial community structure in system was also *** typical characterizations revealed uniform dispersion of PLA and n ZVI particles on the BC surface,being smoother after PDA *** composite exhibited a significantly higher performance on 1,1,1-TCA removal(82.38%,initial concentration 100 mg/L)than Fe-PDA and PB-PDA *** diversity and richness of the microbial community in the composite treatment consistently decreased during incubation due to a synergistic effect between PLLA-BC and n ***,Pedobacter,Sphaerochaeta,Shewanella,and Clostridium were identified as enriched genera by the composite through DNA-stable isotope probing(DNA-SIP),playing a crucial role in the bioreductive dechlorination *** the above results demonstrate that this novel composite selectively enhances the activity of microorganisms with extracellular respiration functions to efficiently dechlorinate 1,1,*** findings could contribute to understanding the responsive microbial community by carbon-iron composites and expedite the application of in-situ enhanced bioreduction for effective remediation of chlorinated hydrocarbon-contaminated groundwater.

Interpretable Machine Learning-Based Spring Algal Bloom Forecast Model for the Coastal Waters of Zhejiang

The 2016–2022 monitoring data from three ecological buoys in the Wenzhou coastal region of Zhejiang Province and the dataset European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts were examined to clarify the elaborate relationship between variations in ecological parameters during spring algal bloom incidents and the associated changes in temperature and wind fields in this study.A long short-term memory recurrent neural network was employed,and a predictive model for spring algal bloom in this region was *** model integrated various inputs,including temperature,wind speed,and other pertinent variables,and chlorophyll concentration served as the primary output *** model training used chlorophyll concentration data,which were supplemented by reanalysis and forecast temperature and wind field *** model demonstrated proficiency in forecasting next-day chlorophyll concentrations and assessing the likelihood of spring algal bloom occurrences using a defined chlorophyll concentration *** historical validation from 2016 to 2019 corroborated the model's accuracy with an 81.71%probability of correct prediction,which was further proven by its precise prediction of two spring algal bloom incidents in late April 2023 and early May *** interpretable machine learning-based model for spring algal bloom prediction,displaying effective forecasting with limited data,was established through the detailed analysis of the spring algal bloom mechanism and the careful selection of input *** insights gained from this study offer valuable contributions to the development of early warning systems for spring algal bloom in the Wenzhou coastal area of Zhejiang Province.

The diurnal variation in the sun's altitude alters the red-to-blue light spectrum ratio under identical water *** study explores how juvenile steelhead trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss)(initial weight:34.67 g±2.69 g)responds to these fluctuating light conditions,focusing on growth,daily activity levels,and energy *** 16 weeks,the experiment was conducted to examine six lighting scenarios:12 h white light followed by 12 h darkness(12W);12 h blue light followed by 12 h darkness(12B);12 h red light followed by 12 h darkness(12R);1.5 h blue light,9 h red light,and again 1.5 h blue light followed by 12 h darkness(3B9R);3 h blue light,6h red light,and again 3 h blue light followed by 12 h darkness(6B6R);and 12 h combined blue and red lights followed by 12 h darkness(T12BR).The findings reveal that the 3B9R lighting condition notably enhanced specific growth rate(SGR),feed conversion efficiency(FCE),and growth energy allocation,while diminishing daily activity levels in steelhead ***,under the 6B6R condition,there was a significant reduction in SGR and FCE,indicating that growth was *** the 12R condition,despite the high activity and respiratory energy loss,the trout exhibited improved SGR and FCE with reduced fecal energy *** study suggests that 3B9R and 12R lighting conditions might be beneficial in commercial steelhead trout farming,potentially lowering costs and boosting *** results offer valuable insights for the application of supplementary lighting technology in salmon aquaculture.

Highly efficient catalytic transfer hydrogenation for the conversion of nitrobenzene to aniline over PdO/TiO_(2):The key role of in situ switching from PdO to Pd

The reduction of nitrobenzene to aniline is very important for both pollution control and chemical ***,difficulties still remain in developing a catalytic system having high efficiency and selectivity for the production of ***,it was found that PdO nanoparticles highly dispersed on TiO_(2)support(PdO/TiO_(2))functioned as a highly efficient catalyst for the reduction of nitrobenzene in the presence of *** favorable conditions,95%of the added nitrobenzene(1 mmol/L)was reduced within 1 min with an ultra-low apparent activation energy of 10.8 kJ/mol by using 0.5%PdO/TiO_(2)as catalysts and 2 mmol/L of NaBH4 as reductants,and the selectivity to aniline even reached up to 98%.The active hydrogen specieswere perceived as dominant species during the hydrogenation of nitrobenzene by the results of isotope labeling experiments and ESR spectroscopic.A mechanismwas proposed as follows:PdO activates the nitro groups and leads to in-situ generation of Pd,and the generated Pd acts as the reduction sites to produce active hydrogen *** this catalytic system,nitrobenzene prefers to be adsorbed on the PdO nanoparticles of the PdO/TiO_(2)***,the addition of NaBH4 results in in-situ generation of a Pd/PdO/TiO_(2)composite from the PdO/TiO_(2)composite,and the Pd nanoclusters would activate NaBH4 to generate active hydrogen species to attack the adsorbed nitro *** work will open up a new approach for the catalytic transfer hydrogenation of nitrobenzene to aniline in green chemistry.

Two-dimensional transition metal trithiophosphates(TMPS_(3),TM=Mn,Fe,Co,etc.)are competitive anode materials for sodium-ion batteries(SIBs)due to their high theoretical capacity(>1,300 mAh g^(−1))but suffer from limited practical capacity(~300 mAh g^(−1))and inferior rate capability caused by sluggish Na+intercalation/deintercalation kinetics and severe structural ***,alkylamine molecules are first proposed as intercalation guests to significantly boost the electrochemical activity and stability of MnPS_(3).Compared to MnPS_(3),C3H9N-MnPS_(3) enlarges the interlayer spacing from 6.48 to 10.23Åand shows a 105 times higher electrical conductivity,which provides fast ion/electron transport and high strain adaptability,realizing a quasi-topological Na+intercalation ***,C3H9N-MnPS_(3) exhibits an ultrahigh reversible capacity of 775 mAh g^(−1) at 0.5 A g^(−1) and superior high-rate cycling stability with~100%capacity retention after 2,500 cycles at 15 A g^(−1),ranking it among the top metal trithiophosphate-based anode materials *** calculations indicate that the improved sodium storage performance of C3H9N-MnPS_(3) results from the reduced bonding energy of P–S bonds and increased adsorption energy of Na^(+).This work is expected to provide an efficient strategy for the design of high-performance layered anode materials for SIBs.

Bioaccessibility and health risk assessment of hydrophobic organic pollutants in soils from four typical industrial contaminated sites in China

There have been reports of potential health risks for people from hydrophobic organic pollutants,such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs),polychlorinated hydrocarbons(PCHs),and organophosphate flame retardants(OPFRs).When a contaminated site is used for residential housing or public utility and recreation areas,the soil-bound organic pollutantsmight pose a threat to human *** this study,we investigated the contamination profiles and potential risks to human health of 15 PAHs,6 PCHs,and 12 OPFRs in soils from four contaminated sites in *** used an in vitro method to determine the oral bioaccessibility of soil *** PAHswere found at concentrations ranging from26.4 ng/g to 987 ng/***(0.27-14.3 ng/g)and OPFRs(6.30-310 ng/g)were detected,but at low levels compared to earlier *** levels of PAHs,PCHs,and OPFRs released from contaminated soils into simulated gastrointestinal fluids ranged from 1.74%to 91.0%,2.51%to 39.6%,and 1.37%to 96.9%,*** on both spiked and unspiked samples,we found that the oral bioaccessibility of pollutantswas correlated with their logKow andmolecularweight,and the total organic carbon content and pH of *** in 13 out of 38 contaminated soil samples posed potential high risks to *** considering oral bioaccessibility,nine soils still posed potential risks,while the risks in the remaining soils became *** contribution of this paper is that it corrects the health risk of soil-bound organic pollutants by detecting bioaccessibility in actual soils from different contaminated sites.

Bioenergy recovery and carbon emissions benefits of short-term bio-thermophilic pretreatment on low organic sewage sludge anaerobic digestion:A pilot-scale study

Sewage sludge in cities of Yangzi River Belt,China,generally exhibits a lower organic content and higher silt contentdue to leakage of drainage system,which caused low bioenergy recovery and carbon emission benefits in conventional anaerobic digestion(CAD).Therefore,this paper is on a pilot scale,a bio-thermophilic pretreatment anaerobic digestion(BTPAD)for low organic sludge(volatile solids(VS)of 4%)was operated with a long-term continuous flow of 200 *** VS degradation rate and CH_(4) yield of BTPAD increased by 19.93%and 53.33%,respectively,compared to those of *** analysis of organic compositions in sludge revealed that BTPAD mainly improved the hydrolysis of proteins in *** analysis of microbial community proportions by high-throughput sequencing revealed that the short-term bio-thermophilic pretreatment was enriched in Clostridiales,Coprothermobacter and Gelria,was capable of hydrolyzing acidified proteins,and provided more volatile fatty acid(VFA)for the subsequent *** combined with fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction(PCR)analysis showed that the number of bacteria with high methanogenic capacity in BTPAD was much higher than that in CAD during the medium temperature digestion stage,indicating that short-term bio-thermophilic pretreatment could provide better methanogenic conditions for ***,the greenhouse gas emission footprint analysis showed that short-term bio-thermophilic pretreatment could reduce the carbon emission of sludge anaerobic digestion system by 19.18%.
