An earlier version of V.PhyloMaker has been broadly used to generate phylogenetic trees of vascular plants for botanical,biogeographical and ecological studies.Here,we update and enlarge this package,which is now called‘V.PhyloMaker2’.With V.PhyloMaker2,one can generate a phylogenetic tree for vascular plants based on one of three different botanical nomenclature systems.V.PhyloMaker2 can generate phylogenies for very large species lists(the largest species list that we tested included 365,198 species).V.PhyloMaker2 generates phylogenies at a fast speed.We provide an example(including a sample species list and an R script to run it)in this paper to show how to use V.PhyloMaker2 to generate phylogenetic trees.

Rational design of biodegradable thermoplastic polyurethanes for tissue repair

As a type of elastomeric polymers,non-degradable polyurethanes(PUs)have a long history of being used in clinics,whereas biodegradable PUs have been developed in recent decades,primarily for tissue repair and regeneration.Biodegradable thermoplastic(linear)PUs are soft and elastic polymeric biomaterials with high mechanical strength,which mimics the mechanical properties of soft and elastic tissues.Therefore,biodegradable thermoplastic polyurethanes are promising scaffolding materials for soft and elastic tissue repair and regeneration.Generally,PUs are synthesized by linking three types of changeable blocks:diisocyanates,diols,and chain extenders.Alternating the combination of these three blocks can finely tailor the physio-chemical properties and generate new functional PUs.These PUs have excellent processing flexibilities and can be fabricated into three-dimensional(3D)constructs using conventional and/or advanced technologies,which is a great advantage compared with cross-linked thermoset elastomers.Additionally,they can be combined with biomolecules to incorporate desired bioactivities to broaden their biomedical applications.In this review,we comprehensively summarized the synthesis,structures,and properties of biodegradable thermoplastic PUs,and introduced their multiple applications in tissue repair and regeneration.A whole picture of their design and applications along with discussions and perspectives of future directions would provide theoretical and technical supports to inspire new PU development and novel applications.

We report for the first time that in heterotic string compactified on 4-torus or equivalently IIA string compactified on K3,the leading α′corrections to the rotating black string entropy at fixed conserved charges can be negative.This further implies that the correction to the mass of extremal rotating string is positive,opposite to the standard expectation from the weak gravity conjecture.Our result suggests that the validity of positivity of entropy shift due to higher order operators depends on other factors omitted previously in the effective field theory analysis.

Phylogenies are essential to studies investigating the effect of evolutionary history on assembly of species in ecological communities and geographical and ecological patterns of phylogenetic structure of species assemblages.Because phylogenies well resolved at the species level are lacking for many major groups of organisms such as vascular plants,researchers often generate a species-level phylogenies using a phylogeny well resolved at the genus level as a backbone and attaching species to their respective genera in the phylogeny as polytomies or by using a megaphylogeny well resolved at the genus level as a backbone and adding additional species to the megaphylogeny as polytomies of their respective genera.However,whether the result of a study using species-level phylogenies generated in these ways is robust,compared to that based on phylogenies fully resolved at the species level,has not been assessed.Here,we use 1093 angiosperm tree assemblages(each in a 110110 km quadrat)in North America as a model system to address this question,by examining six commonly used metrics of phylogenetic structure(phylogenetic diversity and phylogenetic relatedness)and six climate variables commonly used in ecology.Our results showed that(1)the scores of phylogenetic metrics derived from species-level phylogenies resolved at the genus level with species being attached to their respective genera as polytomies are very strongly or perfectly correlated to those derived from a phylogeny fully resolved at the species level(the mean of correlation coefficients is 0.973),and(2)the relationships between the scores of phylogenetic metrics and climate variables are consistent between the two sets of analyses based on the two types of phylogeny.Our study suggests that using species-level phylogenies resolved at the genus level with species being attached to their genera as polytomies is appropriate in studies exploring patterns of phylogenetic structure of species in ecological communities across geographical and ecological gradients.

Dihydropyran(DHP)compounds are not only found in natural products and bioactive molecules,but also serve as important precursors in organic synthesis.Nonetheless,traditional methods for the construction of such compounds are usually limited to disubstituted DHPs.To address this synthetic challenge,reported here is an efficient electrochemical strategy toward the selenated and trifluoromethylated DHP compounds.The reaction proceeded smoothly under mild electrolysis conditions.The broad substrate scope(>50 examples)and scalable synthesis demonstrated the complexity-building potential of the strategy.Initial mechanistic studies reveal that cyclization may involve a radical process.This protocol may promote the further development of diversified synthesis of multi-substituted dihydropyran.

Water pollution caused by global population growth,urban expansion and industrialization development is one of the urgent issues that need to be addressed in the 21st century.Up to now,it was challenging for metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)to be used in the actual water treatment due to that the powder MOFs suffered from difficult reuse,poor water stability and easy corrosion.It is an effective strategy to immobilize MOFs powder onto porous sponge foam carriers for accomplishing large flux,facile recycling,easy processing water treatment setups.In this review article,the fabrication approaches and applications of different MOFs/sponge composites were highlighted,in which the fluorescence detection of pollutants,adsorption and separation of pollutants,catalytic reduction and oxidation of pollutants were included.Finally,the future challenges and opportunities of MOF/sponge for water treatment are proposed,aiming to provide in-depth guidance for the future design and manufacture of the immobilized MOFs onto sponge foams.

Assisted reproductive technology(ART)has evolved rapidly over the last 40 years,offering hope to individuals and couples struggling with infertility.As technology continues to evolve,simulating a realistic female reproductive system environment has become a common goal for all types of ARTs,thereby reducing the impact of the artificial microenvironment on perinatal and offspring health.In this review,we provide a brief history of the development of each major ART and discuss the impact of ART on perinatal and offspring health.We also explore how the negative consequences of ART may be overcome and how its benefits can be maximized.

Cross-coupling reactions have developed widely and provided a powerful means to synthesize a variety of compounds in each chemical field. The compounds which have C--H bonds are widespread in fossil fuels, chemical raw materials, biologically active molecules, etc. Using these readily- available substances as substrates is high atom- and step-economy for cross-coupling reactions. Over the past decades, our research group focused on finding and developing new strategies for C--H functionalization. Compared with classical C--H activation methods, for example, C--H bonds are depro- tonated by strong base or converted into C--M bonds, oxidation-induced C--H functionalization would be another pathway for C--H bond activation. This perspective shows a brief introduction of our recent works in this oxidation-induced C--H functionalization. We categorized this approach of these C--H bond activations by the key intermediates, radical cations, radicals and cations.

Exercise-induced modulation of miR-149-5p and MMP9 in LPS-triggered diabetic myoblast ER stress: licorice glycoside E as a potential therapeutic target

Background:This study explores the relationship between endoplasmic reticulum(ER)stress and diabetes,particularly focusing on the impact of physical exercise on ER stress mechanisms and identifying potential therapeutic drugs and targets for diabetes-related sepsis.The research also incorporates traditional physical therapy perspectives,emphasizing the genomic insights gained from exercise therapy in disease management and prevention.Methods:Gene analysis was conducted on the GSE168796 and GSE94717 datasets to identify ER stress-related genes.Gene interactions and immune cell correlations were mapped using GeneCard and STRING databases.A screening of 2,456 compounds from the TCMSP database was performed to identify potential therapeutic agents,with a focus on their docking potential.Techniques such as luciferase reporter gene assay and RNA interference were used to examine the interactions between microRNA-149-5p and MMP9.Results:The study identified 2,006 differentially expressed genes and 616 miRNAs.Key genes like MMP9,TNF-α,and IL1B were linked to an immunosuppressive state.Licorice glycoside E demonstrated high affinity for MMP9,suggesting its potential effectiveness in treating diabetes.The constructed miRNA network highlighted the regulatory roles of MMP9,IL1B,IFNG,and TNF-α.Experimental evidence confirmed the binding of microRNA-149-5p to MMP9,impacting apoptosis in diabetic cells.Conclusion:The findings highlight the regulatory role of microRNA-149-5p in managing MMP9,a crucial gene in diabetes pathophysiology.Licorice glycoside E emerges as a promising treatment option for diabetes,especially targeting MMP9 affected by ER stress.The study also underscores the significance of physical exercise in modulating ER stress pathways in diabetes management,bridging traditional physical therapy and modern scientific understanding.Our study has limitations.It focuses on the microRNA-149-5p-MMP9 network in sepsis,using cell-based methods without animal or clinical trials.Despite strong in vitro findings,in vivo stud
