Antifouling Activity of Bacterial Symbionts of Seagrasses against Marine Biofilm-Forming Bacteria

Marine biofouling has been regarded as a serious problem in the marine environment. The application of TBT and other heavy metal-based antifoulants has created another environmental problem. The present study explored the possible role of baterial symbionts of seagrasses Thalassia hemprichii, and Enhalus acoroides, which were successfully screened for antifouling activity against marine biofilm-forming bacteria isolated from the surrounding colonies of seagrasses. Bacterial symbionts were isolated and tested against biofilm-forming bacteria resulted in 4 bacterial symbionts capable of inhibiting the growth biofilm-forming isolates. Molecular identification based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that the active bacterial symbionts belonged to the members of the genera Bacillus and Virgibacillus. Further tests of the crude extracts of the active bacterial symbionts supported the potential of these symbionts as the alternative source of environmentally friendly marine antifoulants.

The increased valorization of renewable and cost-effective lignocellulosic feedstocks represents a viable,sustainable,and eco-friendly approach toward the production of biopellets as alternative energy *** aim of this research work was to investigate and evaluate the feasibility of using various lignocellulosic raw materials,i.e.,raru(Cotylelobium melanoxylon),mangrove(Rhizophora spp.),sengon(Paraserianthes falcataria),kemenyan toba(Styrax sumatrana),oil palm(Elaeis guineensis),manau rattan(Calamus manan),and belangke bamboo(Gigantochloa pruriens)for manufacturing biopellets with different particle *** raw materials used were tested for their moisture content,specific gravity,ash,cellulose,and lignin *** addition,thermal analyses,i.e.,calorific values,thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),were *** following properties of the biopellets produced were investigated:moisture content,volatile matter,ash content,fixed carbon,density,and thermal *** on an analysis of the raw materials,raru had the lowest moisture content(12%)and ash content(1.5%)and the highest specific gravity(1.2).Markedly,palm oil stem had the highestα-cellulose(55%)and lignin(37%)*** accordance with the SNI 8675:2018 standard requirements,biopellets with optimal properties(moisture content of 1.4%,ash content of 0.79%,density of 1.09 g/m^(3),calorific value of 4672 cal/g,and TGA residue of 13.9%),were manufactured from raru wood.

Objective: One of the diabetes mellitus (DM) complications is foot ulcers. Foot ulcers are influenced by many factors. DM puts patients at risk of injury because of visual impairment. Hyperglycemia can damage blood vessels, which results in peripheral artery disease (PAD). The purpose of this study was to find the relationship of visual impairment and PAD with diabetic foot ulcers. Methods: This research used observational analytic study with case–control methods. It used purposive sampling in 34 DM patients with foot ulcers and 34 DM patients without foot ulcers. The research instruments were an interview guide to assess visual impairment, physical examination to assess PAD, and documentation study, which was used to know the incidence of diabetic ulcers. Results: The results showed that the respondents who experienced ulcers with visual impairment were 44.1% and the respondents who had foot ulcers with PAD were 73.5%. The results of statistical tests showed that there was no relationship between visual impairment and the incidence of ulcers (P = 0.166). The respondents with PAD will have a chance to suffer from foot ulcers 5.808 times higher than those who do not have PAD. Conclusions: There is no relationship between visual impairment and the incidence of diabetic foot ulcers in Dr. Moewardi Hospital, but there is relationship between PAD and the incidence of diabetic foot ulcers in Dr. Moewardi Hospital. Suggestions of this study are to do foot screening and educate about the importance of foot care to prevent the occurrence of diabetic ulcers.

Cricket Farming for Animal Protein as Profitable Business for Small Farmers in Indonesia

Biodiesel is a renewable energy,possesses high cetane number and flash points,resulting in its suitable uses in diesel machines and its safe distribution and storage,as well as low gas emission,and its function as lubricant. Disadvantages of the biodiesel include its high density and viscosity,resulting in plug and ineffective injection system,and low oxidation stability. This research studied about antioxidant additions to maintain oxidation stability of biodiesel. Induction period(IP) measuring kit,to measure oxidation stability,was constructed by using modified Rancimat principle. The best operation conditions were at temperature of 1100 C and pressure of 6 hours).

Cricket is widely recognized in Indonesia especially in Java island, and commonly kept by village farmers for food and feed. In general, crickets has very short life cycle （60-70 d）, with three weeks of laying period and egg production within the range of 200-1,500 eggs/female. The female has capability for multiple mating with several males and therefore produces more fertile eggs. Serial studies including experiments on laboratory and field observation of local crickets had been conducted to evaluate the farming practices and reproductive performance of three local species （Gryllus spp., Gryllus mitratus and Gryllus testaceus） which were given local feeds--Manihot esculenta and Carica papaya leaves. The experiment was conducted in randomized block design with feed as the treatments and species as the block. Cliring crickets （G. mitratus） fed with M. esculenta leaves revealed the highest total egg production （1,478.22 eggs）, with daily egg production of 32.85 eggs/d, the longest laying period （45 d）, the lowest feed intake （0.28 g/head） and feed conversion （0.93 mg/egg）, compared to Cendawang crickets （G. testaceus） and Gryllus spp.. The revenue and cost （R/C） ratio was 1.4, indicating that small scale cricket enterprise could offer significant profit and could be chosen as an alternative activities for earning regular income.

汉语隐现句是存现句的下位句,是汉语当中一种特殊句式,在汉语作为二语教学中是一个难点和重点。到目前为止,对汉语隐现句的研究相当多,且取得了很大的成果,但涉及到汉语作为二语教学的汉语隐现句研究仍不多。本文在前人研究成果的基础上,针对印尼学习者对汉语隐现句的习得情况进行研究。印尼学习者对汉语隐现句的习得情况如何?他们在使用汉语隐现句的时候会出现什么样的偏误类型?为何印尼学习者使用汉语隐现句的时候会出现偏误?这些问题需要进行系统性的研究来回答。本文借助测试性调查问卷,选取雅加达地区的印尼学习者进行研究。通过调查问卷收集大量的印尼学习者使用汉语隐现句的语料,然后采用数据统计法对收集到的语料进行分析,找出偏误并分析造成偏误的原因。最后根据得出的结果并结合印尼雅加达地区的汉语教学情况以及所使用的汉语教材,提出教学建议。本研究发现,印尼学习者使用汉语隐现句的时候出现很多偏误,如隐现句中段动词的误用,以其他句式来代替隐现句等。这个现象说明印尼学习者对汉语隐现句的习得情况并不乐观。研究发现,主要原因是因为印尼学习者不太了解汉语隐现句的细则导致使用隐现句的时候经常以有限的知识及大脑中已有的语言图式套用到目的语上。根据印尼学习者对汉语隐现句的习得情况的分析,本文认为汉语教师应加强汉语印尼语对比,通过补充练习、扩展句式等方式,让学习者能够得到更多的输入而习惯使用汉语隐现句。

Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment in a Diabetic Rat Model Is Associated with a Decrease in Blood Glucose, Regression of Organ Damage and Improvement in Wound Healing

Diabetes leads to widespread complications including pancreatic β-cell damage, nephropathy and impaired wound healing. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has been shown to improve wound healing through induction of stem cell recruitment and the potential to inhibit progression of diabetic complications. We aimed to determine the efficacy of HBOT in wound healing and organ preservation in a diabetic rat model. Diabetes was induced in male Wistar rats (n = 10/group) using streptozotocin (20 mg/kg sc) daily for 3 days. A wound was inflicted on the skin over the back and the rats were given HBOT (2.3 ATA for 1 h/day) for 1, 3, 5, 7 or 10 days or were not treated. Blood glucose, pancreatic β-cell damage, diabetic nephropathy and wound healing progression were assessed. Diabetic rats not treated with HBOT had significantly higher blood glucose levels compared to controls (26.7 ± 3.3 mmol/L vs. 5.8 ± 0.4 mmol/L;P ≤ 0.05). This was associated with significant increase in the percentage of β-cell damage (72% ± 9% vs. 10% ± 2%;P ≤ 0.05) and diabetic nephropathy. HBOT for 3 days and longer in diabetic rats reduced hyperglycemia to control levels. Pancreatic β-cell damage was negligible in rats treated with HBOT for 5 days and longer while diabetic nephropathy was diminished in animals treated for 10 days. Similarly HBOT induced wound healing and accelerated epithelial closure from 5 days of HBOT. In summary, our findings show the efficacy of HBOT in this diabetic rat model. There was significant reduction of hyperglycemia and inhibition of diabetic complications in the form of preservation of pancreatic and kidney structure and accelerated wound healing.
