Thermally conductive polymer nanocomposites integrated with lightweight,excellent flexural strength,and high fracture toughness(KIc)would be of great use in many ***,achieving all of these properties simultaneously remains a great *** by natural nacre,here we demonstrate a lightweight,strong,tough,and thermally conductive boron nitride nanosheet/epoxy layered(BNNEL)*** of the layered structure and enhancing the interfacial interactions through hydrogen bonding and Si–O–B covalent bonding,the resulting nacre-inspired BNNEL nanocomposites show high fracture toughness of~4.22 MPa·m^(1/2),which is 7 folds as high as pure ***,the BNNEL nanocomposites demonstrate sufficient flexural strength(~168.90 MPa,comparable to epoxy resin),while also being lightweight(~1.23 g/cm^(3)).Additionally,the BNNEL nanocomposites display a thermal conductivity(κ)of~0.47 W/(m·K)at low boron nitride nanosheet loading of 2.08 vol.%,which is 2.7 times higher than that of pure epoxy *** developed nacre-inspired strategy of layered structure design and interfacial enhancement provides an avenue for fabricating high mechanical properties and thermally conductive polymer nanocomposites.

Bed inventory balance and stability of dual circulating fluidized bed systems

Experiments and modelling are conducted for general understanding on the imbalance phenomenon and for discussion on the strategies to improve the bed inventory balance and stability of a dual circulating fluidized bed(DCFB)*** experiments are carried out in a 15.5 m high pilot-scale DCFB cold test system.A fluid-dynamic DCFB model is developed based on a 1.5-dimensional semi-empirical model of an industrial CFB boiler,validated by experimental *** effects of control methods and operation conditions on the bed inventory balance and on the stability of the pilot-and large-scale DCFB systems are discussed.A"stable-unbalanced"state,where the system reaches a steady state,consisting of un-balanced bed inventories,is observed in both experiments and model *** maintain a balanced state and similar bed inventory in the DCFB systems with similar cross-sectional areas,it is recom-mended to keep similar total pressure drops or gas velocities in both reactors.

Lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries are one of the most promising modern-day energy supply systems because of their high theoretical energy density and low ***,the development of high-energy density Li-S batteries with high loading of flammable sulfur faces the challenges of electrochemical performance degradation owing to the shuttle effect and safety issues related to fire or explosion *** this work,we report a three-dimensional(3D)conductive nitrogen-doped carbon foam supported electrostatic self-assembled MXene-ammonium polyphosphate(NCF-MXene-APP)layer as a heat-resistant,thermally-insulated,flame-retardant,and freestanding host for Li-S batteries with a facile and costeffective synthesis ***,through the use of NCF-MXene-APP hosts that strongly anchor polysulfides,the Li-S batteries demonstrate outstanding electrochemical properties,including a high initial discharge capacity of 1191.6 mA h g^(-1),excellent rate capacity of 755.0 mA h g^(-1)at 1 C,and long-term cycling stability with an extremely low-capacity decay rate of 0.12%per cycle at 2 *** importantly,these batteries can continue to operate reliably under high temperature or flame attack ***,this study provides valuable insights into the design of safe high-performance Li-S batteries.

Thyristor-inserted MMC Sub-module Topology with DC Fault Blocking Capability

Modular multilevel converter(MMC)is increasingly being applied to high voltage direct current(HVDC)***,dc short circuit situations restrain the application of a conventional half bridge MMC *** this paper,a new sub-module topology with inserted thyristor can help the MMC system clear a dc side *** states and devices voltage stress of the proposed topology are analyzed and the conduction loss comparison between the proposed topology with several existing topologies with dc fault blocking capability is carried *** show the proposed topology is superior to other topologies in terms of conduction loss while using the same voltage rating ***,compared with traditional half bridge topology,only thyristors and diodes are added in the proposed ***,cost of the proposed topology can be lower than conventional hybrid MMC *** last,the fault blocking capability of the proposed topology is verified in the simulation.

Robust and Discriminative Feature Learning via Mutual Information Maximization for Object Detection in Aerial Images

Object detection in unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)aerial images has become increasingly important in military and civil *** object detection models are not robust enough against interclass similarity and intraclass variability of small objects,and UAV-specific nuisances such as uncontrolledweather *** previous approaches focusing on high-level semantic information,we report the importance of underlying features to improve detection accuracy and robustness fromthe information-theoretic ***,we propose a robust and discriminative feature learning approach through mutual information maximization(RD-MIM),which can be integrated into numerous object detection methods for aerial ***,we present the rank sample mining method to reduce underlying feature differences between the natural image domain and the aerial image ***,we design a momentum contrast learning strategy to make object features similar to the same category and dissimilar to different ***,we construct a transformer-based global attention mechanism to boost object location semantics by leveraging the high interrelation of different receptive *** conduct extensive experiments on the VisDrone and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Benchmark Object Detection and Tracking(UAVDT)datasets to prove the effectiveness of the proposed *** experimental results show that our approach brings considerable robustness gains to basic detectors and advanced detection methods,achieving relative growth rates of 51.0%and 39.4%in corruption robustness,*** code is available at https://***/cq100/RD-MIM(accessed on 2 August 2024).

A New Vehicle Detection Framework Based on Feature-Guided in the Road Scene

Vehicle detection plays a crucial role in the field of autonomous driving ***,directly applying deep learning-based object detection algorithms to complex road scene images often leads to subpar performance and slow inference speeds in vehicle *** a balance between accuracy and detection speed is crucial for real-time object detection in real-world road *** paper proposes a high-precision and fast vehicle detector called the feature-guided bidirectional pyramid network(FBPN).Firstly,to tackle challenges like vehicle occlusion and significant background interference,the efficient feature filtering module(EFFM)is introduced into the deep network,which amplifies the disparities between the features of the vehicle and the ***,the proposed global attention localization module(GALM)in the model neck effectively perceives the detailed position information of the target,improving both the accuracy and inference speed of ***,the detection accuracy of small-scale vehicles is further enhanced through the utilization of a four-layer feature pyramid *** results show that FBPN achieves an average precision of 60.8% and 97.8% on the BDD100K and KITTI datasets,respectively,with inference speeds reaching 344.83 frames/s and 357.14 frames/*** demonstrates its effectiveness and superiority by striking a balance between detection accuracy and inference speed,outperforming several state-of-the-art methods.

Slight distortions can cause dramatic changes in the properties of crystalline perovskite materials and their *** to the numerous types of distortions and unclarified distortion-structure relations,a quantitative distortion manipulation for the desired crystalline phase of perovskite materials suitable for various application remains ***,by establishing parameter sets to systematically describe the types,magnitudes and positional relations involved in distortions,we are able to interpret the structural regulations and manipulation strategies in 7 reported crystal *** the con-struction of distortion-phase-property functional curves,we further propose a paradigm to quantify the structural distortion manipulation for desired perovskite *** the example of perovskite-like tungsten oxides,we successfully quantify their volume shrinkage and symmetry increase during *** work verifies that the complicated research and development of perovskite materials can be simplified into a mathematical problem solving process,which will inspire researchers with different backgrounds to participate,especially mathematicians and computer scientists.

Formation of Superthin Galaxies in IllustrisTNG

Superthin galaxies are observed to have stellar disks with extremely small minor-to-major axis *** this work,we investigate the formation of superthin galaxies in the TNG100 *** trace the merger history and investigate the evolution of galaxy properties of a selected sample of superthin galaxies and a control sample of galaxies that share the same joint probability distribution in the stellar-mass and color *** making comparisons between the two galaxy samples,we find that present-day superthin galaxies had similar morphologies as the control sample counterparts at higher redshifts,but have developed extended flat“superthin”morphologies since z~*** this latter evolution stage,superthin galaxies undergo an overwhelmingly higher frequency of prograde mergers(with orbit-spin angleθ_(orb)≤40°).Accordingly the spins of their dark matter halos have grown significantly and become noticeably higher than those of their normal disk *** further results in the buildup of their stellar disks at larger distances much beyond the regimes of normal disk *** also discuss the formation scenario of those superthin galaxies that live in larger dark matter halos as satellite galaxies therein.
