Multilayer Strategy for Photoelectrochemical Hydrogen Generation:New Electrode Architecture that Alleviates Multiple Bottlenecks

Years of research have demonstrated that the use of multiple components is essential to the development of a commercial photoelectrode to address specific bottlenecks,such as low charge separation and injection efficiency,low carrier diffusion length and lifetime,and poor durability.A facile strategy for the synthesis of multilayered photoanodes from atomic-layer-deposited ultrathin films has enabled a new type of electrode architecture with a total multilayer thickness of 15–17 *** illustrate the advantages of this electrode architecture by using nanolayers to address different bottlenecks,thus producing a multilayer photoelectrode with improved interface kinetics and shorter electron transport path,as determined by interface *** photocurrent density was twice that of the bare structure and reached a maximum of 33.3±2.1 mA cm^(−2) at 1.23 *** integrated overall water-splitting cell consisting of an electrocatalytic NiS cathode and Bi_(2)S_(3)/NiS/NiFeO/TiO_(2) photoanode was used for precious-metal-free seawater splitting at a cell voltage of 1.23 V without *** results and root analyses suggest that the distinctive advantages of the electrode architecture,which are superior to those of bulk bottom-up core–shell and hierarchical architectures,originate from the high density of active sites and nanometer-scale layer thickness,which enhance the suitability for interface-oriented energy conversion processes.

The moiré superlattice of misaligned atomic bilayers paves the way for designing a new class of materials with wide *** this work,we propose a photonic analog of the moiré superlattice based on dielectric resonator *** sharp contrast to van der Waals materials with weak interlayer coupling,we realize the strong coupling regime in a moiré superlattice,characterized by cascades of robust flat bands at large ***,we find that these flat bands are characterized by a non-trivial band topology,the origin of which is the moiré pattern of the resonator *** physical manifestation of the flat band topology is a robust one-dimensional conducting channel on edge,protected by the reflection symmetry of the moiré *** explicitly breaking the underlying reflection symmetry on the boundary terminations,we show that the first-order topological edge modes naturally deform into higher-order topological corner *** work pioneers the physics of topological phases in the designable platform of photonic moiré superlattices beyond the weakly coupled regime.

AIM:To evaluate seroprevalence of hepatitis A virus (HAV) antibody and investigate demographic,clinical,and laboratory features of recent cases in ***:For the evaluation of hepatitis A seroprevalence,we analyzed the data from 3127 subjects including,healthcare workers and patients who visited Konkuk University Hospital,a secondary referral center,from January to October *** sera with positive IgM were excluded from seroprevalence data for total HAV *** retrospectively reviewed the electronic medical records of 419 patients with HAV,who were diagnosed by the presence of serum IgM antibodies against *** patients presented at Konkuk University Hospital between August 2005 and September ***:Among 3127 sera tested,1428 (45.7%)were positive for anti-HAV *** seroprevalence was very low in teenagers or those in their twenties,increased in those in their thirties,and was > 90% in older *** children younger than 10 years,seroprevalence was increased *** patients with HAV hepatitis were in their twenties and *** γ-glutamyl transpeptidase increased with age and was significantly higher in patients older than 30 *** of severity,such as decreased albumin and increased bilirubin,were also more prominent in the older age group;however,the leukocyte count was higher and the frequency of leukopenia was lower in younger patients than in older ***:There has been an apparent epidemiological shift in HAV seroprevalence and a change in the peak age of HAV *** study could provide baseline data of recent hepatitis A in Asia.

AIM: To assess the outcomes of combined 23-gauge sutureless vitrectomy and clear corneal phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment(RRD) ***: This was a retrospective, consecutive,noncomparative, interventional case series of 30 eyes of30 patients who underwent combined sutureless vitrectomy and clear corneal cataract surgery for the repair of RRD. The principal outcome measures were primary anatomical success rate, reasons for redetachment, final visual acuity, and surgical ***: Primary reattachment was achieved in 27eyes(90.0%). The reasons for redetachment(3 eyes, 10%)were incomplete laser retinopexy, persistent chronic subretinal fluid, and proliferative vitreoretinopathy,respectively. The logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution visual acuity(mean±SD) improved from 0.76±0.74 preoperatively to 0. 21 ± 0. 37 6 months’ postoperatively(P <0.0001). Postoperative hypotony was not detected,but 1 eye( 3. 3 %) had increased intraocular pressure(30 mm Hg) with spontaneous resolution. No endophthalmitis developed during follow-up. Macular pucker was detected in 3 eyes(10.0%).· CONCLUSION: Combined 23-gauge sutureless vitrectomy and clear corneal phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation for RRD repair was proven safe and effective. It may provide not only the known advantages of conventional combined surgery, but also additional advantages such as less conjunctival fibrosis and the maintenance of stable intraocular pressure with low risks of postoperative hypotony and intraocular pressure elevation.

The use of low-cost single GPS receivers and inertial sensors for auto-guidance applications has been limited by their reduced accuracy and signal drift over time compared to real-time kinematic(RTK)differential GPS units and fiber-optic gyroscope(FOG)*** this study,a prototype low-cost GPS/INS integrated system consisting of a triangle-shaped array of three Garmin 19x GPS receivers and an Xsens inertial measurement unit(IMU)to improve the accuracy of position and heading angle measured with a single GPS receiver was developed.A triangular algorithm that uses data collected from the three single GPSs mounted on the angular points of a triangular frame was designed.A sensor fusion algorithm based on the Kalman filter combining the GPS and IMU data was developed by integrating position data and heading angles of a triangular array of GPS *** optimized values of two noise covariance matrixes(Q and R)for the Kalman filtering were determined using the Central Composite Design(CCD)*** compared to the use of a single Garmin GPS receiver,use of the developed GPS/INS system showed improved accuracy performance in terms of both position and heading angle,with reductions in root mean square errors(RMSEs)from 2.7 m to 0.64 m for position and from 8.9ºto 2.1ºfor heading *** accuracy improvements show new potential for agricultural auto-guidance applications.

This work reports that the intensity ratio of spectral lines having similar self-absorption characteristics during laser induced breakdown spectroscopy(LIBS) analysis can become nearly constant over a wide range of irradiation conditions if the intensities are integrated over a sufficiently long time. It is shown that the plasma temperature and intensity ratio of these spectral lines have temporal similarity. The spectral lines with similar self-absorption properties may be selected to improve the accuracy and consistency of LIBS analysis results under an environment with fluctuating measurement conditions.

In vitro model provides alternatives to the use of live animals in research. In pig nutrition, there has been a tremendous increase in in vivo research over the decades. Proper utilization of in vitro models could provide a screening tool to reduce the needs of in vivo studies, research duration, cost, and the use of animals and feeds. This study aimed to develop a multi-step porcine in vitro system to simulate nutrient digestion and intestinal epithelial immune responses affected by feedstuffs and feed additives. Seven feedstuffs(corn, corn distillers dried grains with solubles [corn DDGS], barley, wheat, soybean meal, soy protein concentrates, and Corynebacterium glutamicum cell mass [CGCM]), feed enzymes(xylanase and phytase), and supplemental amino acids(arginine, methionine, and tryptophan), were used in this in vitro evaluation for their efficacy on digestibility, digesta characteristics, and intestinal health compared with the results from previously published in vivo studies. All in vitro evaluations were triplicated. Data were analyzed using Mixed procedure of SAS9.4. Evaluations included(1) nutrient digestibility of feedstuffs,(2) the effects of feed enzymes, xylanase and phytase, on digestibility of feedstuffs and specific substrates, and(3) the effects of amino acids, arginine, tryptophan, and methionine, on anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and anti-heat stress statuses showing their effects(P < 0.05) on the measured items. Differences in dry matter and crude protein digestibility among the feedstuffs as well as effects of xylanase and phytase were detected(P < 0.05), including xylo-oligosaccharide profiles and phosphorus release from phytate. Supplementation of arginine, tryptophan, and methionine modulated(P < 0.05) cellular inflammatory and oxidative stress responses.
