Measuring Community Resilience During the COVID-19 Based on Community Wellbeing and Resource Distribution

The COVID-19 pandemic has severely harmed every aspect of our daily lives,resulting in a slew of social ***,it is critical to accurately assess the current state of community functionality and resilience under this pandemic for successful *** this end,various types of social sensing tools,such as tweeting and publicly released news,have been employed to understand individuals’and communities’thoughts,behaviors,and attitudes during the COVID-19 ***,some portions of the released news are fake and can easily mislead the community to respond improperly to disasters like *** paper aims to assess the correlation between various news and tweets collected during the COVID-19 pandemic on community functionality and *** use fact-checking organizations to classify news as real,mixed,or fake,and machine learning algorithms to classify tweets as real or fake to measure and compare community resilience(CR).Based on the news articles and tweets collected,we quantify CR based on two key factors,community wellbeing and resource distribution,where resource distribution is assessed by the level of economic resilience and community *** on the estimates of these two factors,we quantify CR from both news articles and tweets and analyze the extent to which CR measured from the news articles can reflect the actual state of CR measured from *** improve the operationalization and sociological significance of this work,we use dimension reduction techniques to integrate the dimensions.

Laboratory characteristics of recent hepatitis A in Korea:Ongoing epidemiological shift

AIM:To evaluate seroprevalence of hepatitis A virus (HAV) antibody and investigate demographic,clinical,and laboratory features of recent cases in ***:For the evaluation of hepatitis A seroprevalence,we analyzed the data from 3127 subjects including,healthcare workers and patients who visited Konkuk University Hospital,a secondary referral center,from January to October *** sera with positive IgM were excluded from seroprevalence data for total HAV *** retrospectively reviewed the electronic medical records of 419 patients with HAV,who were diagnosed by the presence of serum IgM antibodies against *** patients presented at Konkuk University Hospital between August 2005 and September ***:Among 3127 sera tested,1428 (45.7%)were positive for anti-HAV *** seroprevalence was very low in teenagers or those in their twenties,increased in those in their thirties,and was > 90% in older *** children younger than 10 years,seroprevalence was increased *** patients with HAV hepatitis were in their twenties and *** γ-glutamyl transpeptidase increased with age and was significantly higher in patients older than 30 *** of severity,such as decreased albumin and increased bilirubin,were also more prominent in the older age group;however,the leukocyte count was higher and the frequency of leukopenia was lower in younger patients than in older ***:There has been an apparent epidemiological shift in HAV seroprevalence and a change in the peak age of HAV *** study could provide baseline data of recent hepatitis A in Asia.

High mobility group box 1 in the central nervous system:regeneration hidden beneath inflammation

High-mobility group box 1 was first discovered in the calf thymus as a DNA-binding nuclear protein and has been widely studied in diverse fields,including neurology and ***-mobility group box 1 in the extracellular space functions as a pro-inflammatory damage-associated molecular pattern,which has been proven to play an important role in a wide variety of central nervous system disorders such as ischemic stroke,Alzheimer’s disease,frontotemporal dementia,Parkinson’s disease,multiple sclerosis,epilepsy,and traumatic brain *** drugs that inhibit high-mobility group box 1 as a damage-associated molecular pattern,such as glycyrrhizin,ethyl pyruvate,and neutralizing anti-high-mobility group box 1 antibodies,are commonly used to target high-mobility group box 1 activity in central nervous system *** it is commonly known for its detrimental inflammatory effect,high-mobility group box 1 has also been shown to have beneficial pro-regenerative roles in central nervous system *** this narrative review,we provide a brief summary of the history of high-mobility group box 1 research and its characterization as a damage-associated molecular pattern,its downstream receptors,and intracellular signaling pathways,how high-mobility group box 1 exerts the repair-favoring roles in general and in the central nervous system,and clues on how to differentiate the pro-regenerative from the pro-inflammatory *** targeting high-mobility group box 1 in the central nervous system may benefit from differentiating between the two functions rather than overall suppression of high-mobility group box 1.

Atomic Diffusion in Cu/Si （111） and Cu/SiO2/Si （111） Systems by Neutral Cluster Beam Deposition

The Cu films are deposited on two kinds of p-type Si （111） substrates by ionized duster beam （ICB） technique. The interface reaction and atomic diffusion of Cu/Si （111） and Cu/SiO2/Si （111） systems are studied at different annealing temperatures by x-ray diffraction （XRD） and Rutherford backscattering spectrometry （RBS）. Some significant results are obtained： For the Cu/Si （111） samples prepared by neutral dusters, the interdiffusion of Cu and Si atoms occurs when annealed at 230℃. The diffusion coefficients of the samples annealed at 230℃ and 500℃ are 8.5 ×10^-15 cm^2.s^-1 and 3.0 ×10^-14 cm^2.s^-1, respectively. The formation of the copper-silicide phase is observed by XRD, and its intensity becomes stronger with the increase of annealing temperature. For the Cu/SiO2//Si （111） samples prepared by neutral dusters, the interdiffusion of Cu and Si atoms occurs and copper silicides are formed when annealed at 450℃. The diffusion coefficients of Cu in Si are calculated to be 6.0 ×10^-16 cm^2.s^-1 at 450℃, due to the fact that the existence of the SiO2 layer suppresses the interdiffusion of Cu and Si.

Photoacoustic microscopy(PAM)has become a premier microscopy tool that can provide the anatomical,functional,and molecular information of animals and humans in ***,conventional PAM systems suffer from limited temporal and/or spatial ***,we present a fast PAM system and an agent-free localization method based on a stable and commercial galvanometer scanner with a custom-made scanning mirror(L-PAM-GS).This novel hardware implementation enhances the temporal resolution significantly while maintaining a high signal-to-noise ratio(SNR).These improvements allow us to photoacoustically and noninvasively observe the microvasculatures of small animals and humans in ***,the functional hemodynamics,namely,the blood flow rate in the microvasculature,is successfully monitored and quantified in *** importantly,thanks to the high SNR and fast B-mode rate(500 Hz),by localizing photoacoustic signals from captured red blood cells without any contrast agent,unresolved microvessels are clearly distinguished,and the spatial resolution is improved by a factor of 2.5 in ***-GS has great potential in various fields,such as neurology,oncology,and pathology.

Diffusion and Interface Reaction of Cu/Si(100)Films Prepared by Cluster Beam Deposition

Cu thin films are deposited on Si(100)substrates by neutral cluster beams and ionized cluster *** atomic diffusion and interface reaction between the Cu films and the Si substrates of as-deposited and annealed at different temperatures(230℃,450℃,500℃and 600℃)are investigated by Rutherford backscatteringspectrometry(RBS)and x-ray diffraction(XRD).Some significant results are obtained on the following aspects:(1)For the Cu/Si(100)samples prepared by neutral cluster beams and ionized cluster beams at V_(a)=0 kV,atomic diffusion phenomena are observed clearly in the as-deposited *** the increase of annealing temperature,the interdiffusion becomes more ***,the diffusion intensities of the RBS spectra of the Cu/Si(100)films using neutral cluster beams are always higher than that of the Cu/Si(100)films using ionized cluster beams at V_(a)=OkV in the as-deposited and samples annealed at the same *** compound of Cu3Si is observed in the as-deposited samples.(2)For the Cu/Si(100)samples prepared by ionized cluster beams at V_(a)=1,3,5 kV,atomic diffusion phenomena are observed in the as-deposited samples at V_(a)=1,5 *** the samples prepared at V_(a)=3 kV,the interdiffusion phenomenon is observed until 500℃annealing *** reason for the difference is discussed.

Rapid development of vaccines and therapeutics is necessary to tackle the emergence of new pathogens and infectious *** speed up the drug discovery process,the conventional development pipeline can be retooled by introducing advanced in vitro models as alternatives to conventional infectious disease models and by employing advanced technology for the production of medicine and cell/drug delivery *** this regard,layer-by-layer construction with a 3D bioprinting system or other technologies provides a beneficial method for developing highly biomimetic and reliable in vitro models for infectious disease *** addition,the high flexibility and versatility of 3D bioprinting offer advantages in the effective production of vaccines,therapeutics,and relevant delivery ***,we discuss the potential of 3D bioprinting technologies for the control of infectious *** also suggest that 3D bioprinting in infectious disease research and drug development could be a significant platform technology for the rapid and automated production of tissue/organ models and medicines in the near future.

Triolein emulsion infusion into the hepatic artery increases vascular permeability to doxorubicin in rabbit liver

BACKGROUND The infusion of triolein emulsion(TE)induced increased vascular permeability and a negligible and temporary decrease in liver function without specific histopathological *** To assess changes in doxorubicin concentration according to the percentage of TE infused via a hepatic artery to study the vascular permeability in the rabbit *** Thirty-nine healthy rabbits were divided into five groups according to the concentration of emulsified triolein infused into the hepatic arteries:Group 0,saline infusion(control group,n=5);group 1,0.3%TE(n=13);group 2,0.6%TE(n=6);group 3,0.9%TE(n=8);and group 4,1.5%TE(n=6).Doxorubicin(2.4 mg/kg)was infused immediately after TE injection via the hepatic *** 2 h,the livers were harvested,and doxorubicin concentrations were calculated *** doxorubicin concentrations were compared between TE groups and the control group,and the optimal concentrations within the TE groups were *** analysis was performed using the nonparametric Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test.P0.05).CONCLUSION TE infusion into the hepatic arteries significantly increased the doxorubicin concentration approximately twofold but was not different between the TE *** findings suggest that TE infusion might be a useful adjuvant treatment of liver cancers.

A pilot study of single-use endoscopy in screening acute gastrointestinal bleeding

AIM:To investigate the feasibility of a single-use endoscopy as an alternative procedure to nasogastric lavage in patients with acute gastrointestinal(GI) ***:Patients who presented with hematemesis,melena or hematochezia were enrolled in this *** scan and conventional esophagogastroduodenoscopy(EGD) were subsequently *** bleeding was defined as blood in the stomach,and inactive bleeding was defined as coffee ground clots and clear fluid in the *** findings were recorded and ***:Between January and March,2011,13 patients that presented with hematemesis(n = 4),melena(n = 6),or bleeding from a previous nasogastric feeding tube(n = 3),were enrolled in this *** 12 patients with upper GI bleeding,the EG scan device revealed that 7 patients had active bleeding and 5 patients had inactive bleeding,whereas conventional EGD revealed that 8 patients had active bleeding and 4 patients had inactive *** sensitivity and specificity of the EG scan device was 87.5% and 100% for active bleeding,with conventional EGD serving as a *** complication were reported during the EG scan ***:The EG scan is a feasible device for screening acute upper GI *** may replace nasogastric lavage for the evaluation of acute upper GI bleeding.
