Magnetic resonance imaging of knees:a novel approach to predict recombinant human growth hormone therapy response in short-stature children in late puberty

Background There is no appropriate tool to predict recombinant human growth hormone(rhGH)response before therapy initiation in short-stature children in late *** current study aimed to explore the associations between magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)stages of the knee growth plates and rhGH response in short-stature children in late *** In this prospective cohort study,short-stature children in late puberty were treated with rhGH and followed up for 6 *** proposed a novel knee MRI staging system according to the growth plate states of distal femurs or proximal tibias and divided the participants into three groups:unclosed growth plate group,marginally closed growth plate group,and nearly closed growth plate *** primary outcomes were height gain and growth velocity(GV),which were assessed three months *** Fifty participants were enrolled,including 23 boys and 27 *** and height gain after 6 months of rhGH therapy decreased successively in the three groups with an increased degree of growth plate fusion,especially when grouped by proximal tibias(GV_(1-3 mon)from 9.38 to 6.08 to 4.56 cm/year,GV_(4-6 mon)from 6.75 to 4.92 to 3.25 cm/year,and height gain from 4.03 to 2.75 to 1.95 cm,all Phe MRI stages of growth plates independently served as a significant variable for GV and height gain after therapy,especially when grouped by proximal tibias(all Phe MRI staging method is expected to be an effective tool for predicting rhGH response before therapy initiation in short-stature children in late puberty.

Altered oceanic crust source for the alkaline rocks with superchondritic Nb/Ta ratios due to the steep subduction

The cause resulting in alkaline rocks with superchondritic Nb/Ta ratios remains a geochemical enigma. This paper present zircon and apatite geochronology， mineralogy， geochemistry， and Nd-Hf-Zn isotope investigation on the Ejinao nepheline syenite from South China to constrain the petrogenesis of alkaline rocks. The occurrence of alkaline minerals， including alkaline feldspar， arfvedsonite， and nepheline， indicate an alkaline feature of the Ejinao nepheline syenite. zircon and apatite from the rock show U-Pb concordia age of 135.4±0.9 Ma and 137.5±5.8Ma， respectively， suggesting generation in the Early Cretaceous. The rock is characterized by low MgO （0.17 wt.%–0.26 wt.%） contents， but high Fe2O3T（4.66 wt.%–6.16 wt.%） and total alkalis (Na2O + K2O = 12.1 wt.%–13.1 wt.%) contents， consistent with the melts from subducting oceanic crust rather than mantle peridotite. The rock has low TiO2（0.13 wt.%–0.21 wt.%） contents and superchondritic Nb/Ta and Zr/Hf ratios， resulting from rutile residue in the source area. The εNd（t）（-1.35 to -1.09）， εHf（t）（-3.03 to -1.52）， and δ66Zn （0.32‰ to 0.34‰） values of the nepheline syenite manifest the involvement of 15%–20% carbonate-bearing sediments in the altered oceanic crust. Geochemical modeling further reveals that the nepheline syenite was sourced from 10%–20% melting of such a source. This superchondritic Nb/Ta nepheline syenite was generated during the steep subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Ocean， which is needed to bring oceanic slab to a hot mantle and resulted in the altered oceanic crust melting. Our study highlights that the altered oceanic crust represents a novel source for superchondritic Nb/Ta alkaline rocks.

Scavenging and release of REE and HFSE by Na-metasomatism in magmatic-hydrothermal systems

Exploitable or potentially exploitable deposits of critical metals,such as rare-earth(REE)and high-field-strength elements(HFSE),are commonly associated with alkaline or peralkaline igneous ***,the origin,transport and concentration of these metals in peralkaline systems remains poorly *** study presents the results of a mineralogical and geochemical investigation of the Na-metasomatism of alkali amphiboles and clinopyroxenes from a barren peralkaline granite pluton in NE China,to assess the remobilization and redistribution of REE and HFSE during magmatic-hydrothermal *** amphiboles and aegirine-augites from the peralkaline granites show evolutionary trends from sodic-calcic to sodic compositions,with increasing REE and HFSE concentrations as a function of increasing Na-index[Na^(#),defined as molar Na/(Na+Ca)ratios].The Na-amphiboles(i.e.,arfvedsonite)and aegirine-augites can be subsequently altered,or breakdown,to form hydrothermal aegirine during late-or post-magmatic *** compositions analyzed by insitu LA-ICPMS show that the primary aegirine-augites have high and variable REE(2194-3627 ppm)and HFSE(4194-16,862 ppm)contents,suggesting that these critical metals can be scavenged by alkali amphiboles and *** to the primary aegirine-augites,the presentative early replacement aegirine(Aeg-I,Na^(#)=0.91-0.94)has notably lower REE(1484-1972)and HFSE(4351-5621)*** contrast,the late hydrothermal aegirine(Aeg-II,Na^(#)=0.92-0.96)has significantly lower REE(317-456 ppm)and HFSE(6.44-72.2 ppm)*** that the increasing Na^(#)from aegirine-augites to hydrothermal aegirines likely resulted from Na-metasomatism,a scavenging-release model can explain the remobilization of REE and HFSE in peralkaline granitic *** scavenging and release of REE and HFSE by Na-metasomatism provides key insights into the genesis of globally significant REE and HFSE *** high Na-index of th

Aflibercept combined with triamcinolone acetonide in the treatment of diabetic macular edema:optical coherence tomography and optical coherence tomography angiography

AIM:To analyze the relationship between optical coherence tomography(OCT)and OCT angiography(OCTA)imaging in patients with diabetic macular edema(DME)who are treated with a combination of aflibercept and triamcinolone acetonide(TA).METHODS:A total of 76 eyes newly diagnosed DME were included in this *** were randomly assigned to receive either aflibercept or a combination of aflibercept and *** once a month for a total of three *** macular thickness(CMT),number of hyperreflective foci(HRF),height of subretinal fluid(SRF),and area of foveal avascular zone(FAZ)were evaluated using OCT and OCTA at baseline and after each monthly ***:both groups showed improvement in best corrected visual acuity(BCVA)and reduction in macular edema after treatment,and the difference in BCVA between the two groups was statistically significant after each treatment(Phe difference in CMT between the two groups was statistically significant after the first two injections(Phe third injection(P=0.875).The number of HRF(1mo:7.41±8.25 vs 10.86±7.22,P=0.027;2mo:5.33±6.13 vs 9.12±8.61,P=0.034;3mo:3.58±3.00 vs 6.37±5.97,P=0.007)and height of SRF(1mo:82.39±39.12 vs 105.77±42.26μm,P=0.011;2mo:36.84±10.02 vs 83.59±37.78μm,Phe area of FAZ showed no significant change before and after treatment in both ***:The combination therapy of aflibercept and TA shows more significant effects on DME eyes with decreased HRF and ***,both aflibercept and combination therapy show no significant change in the area of FAZ.

Flexible interdigitated layered framework with multiple accessible active sites for high-performance CH_(3)I capture

The development of adsorbent materials for effective capture of radioactive iodomethane(CH_(3)I) from the off-gas of used nuclear fuel reprocessing, remains a significant and challenging line of research because currently state-of-art adsorbents still suffer from low binding affinity with CH_(3)I. here, we proposed a brand-new adsorption topological structure by developing a 2D interdigitated layered framework, named SCU-20, featuring slide-like channel with multiple active sites for CH_(3)I capture. The responsive rotating-adaptive aperture of SCU-20 enables the optimal utilization of all active sites within the pore for highly selective recognition and capture of CH_(3)I. A record-breaking CH_(3)I uptake capacity of 1.84 g/g was achieved under static sorption conditions with saturated CH_(3)I vapor. both experimental and theoretical findings demonstrated that the exceptional uptake of SCU-20 towards CH_(3)I can be attributed to the confined physical electrostatic adsorption of F sites, coupled with the chemical nitrogen methylation reaction with uncoordinated N atoms of pyrazine. Moreover, dynamic CH_(3)I uptake capacity potentially allows for the capture of CH_(3)I in simulated real-world off gas reprocessing conditions. This study highlights the potential of SCU-20 as a promising candidate for efficient capture of iodine species and contributes to the development of effective solutions for radioactive iodine remediation.

Insights into the electron transfer mechanisms of peroxydisulfate activation by modified metal-free acetylene black for degradation of sulfisoxazole

herein,a modified metal-free acetylene black(MMF-AB)catalyst was synthesized by a simple solvothermal-calcination method and designed successfully to activate peroxodisulfate(PDS)for the degradation of sulfisoxazole(SIZ).Due to the doping of N,S and O metal-free elements,the modified catalyst showed excellent catalytic performance with 100%SIZ removal within 30 *** first-order reaction rate constants(evaluating catalytic efficiencies and activity)of MMF-AB(kobs=0.105 min^(−1))was 3 times higher than pure-AB(k_(obs)=0.029 min^(−1)).Interestingly,it was demonstrated that the reaction sys-tem is based on the transfer of electrons from SIZ to PDS to realize an electron-transfer-based mechanism by the evidence of premixing,electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR)spectroscopy,salt-bridge experi-ments and electrochemical *** introduction of recyclable filtration device solved the secondary pollution caused by the dispersion of the powdered catalyst in the treated water,which further proved the practicality and superiority of the MMF-AB catalyst.
