Male reproductive system and simulated high-altitude environment:preliminary results in rats

This study assessed the effects of a simulated high-altitude environment on the reproductive system of prepubertal male rats and the reversibility of these effects upon return to a normal environment.Three-week-old male Wistar rats were randomly allocated to 4 groups that were exposed to different conditions:a normal environment for 6 weeks and 12 weeks,respectively,hypobaric hypoxia for 6 weeks,and hypobaric hypoxia for 6 weeks followed by a normal environment for 6 weeks.Multiple pathophysiological parameters were evaluated at the histological,endocrine,and molecular levels.Hypobaric hypoxia exposure for 6 weeks during the prepubertal phase significantly altered physiological parameters,body functions,blood indices,and reproductive potential.Six weeks after returning to a normal environment,the damaged reproductive functions partially recovered due to compensatory mechanisms.However,several changes were not reversed after returning to a normal environment for 6 weeks,including disorders of body development and metabolism,increased red blood cells,increased fasting blood glucose,abnormal blood lipid metabolism,decreased testicular and epididymis weights,abnormal reproductive hormone levels,excessive apoptosis of reproductive cells,and decreased sperm concentration.In summary,a hypobaric hypoxic environment significantly impaired the reproductive function of prepubertal male rats,and a return to normal conditions during the postpubertal phase did not fully recover these impairments.

All-trans Retinoic Acid-incorporated Glycol Chitosan Nanoparticles Regulate Macrophage Polarization in Pg-LPS-Induced Inflammation

Objective The occurrence and development of inflammation are closely correlated to the polarization of macrophages.All-trans retinoic acid(ATRA)has been proven to promote the polarization of macrophages from M1 to M2,but this lacks an effective carrier to participate in the biological response.The present study aims to determine whether retinoic acid-incorporated glycol chitosan(RA-GC)nanoparticles can regulate macrophage polarization in Porphyromonas gingivalis-lipopolysaccharide(Pg-LPS)-induced inflammation.Methods Mouse 264.7 cell lines were treated with 1µg/mL Pg-LPS to induce inflammation.After the effects of ATRA and RA-GC on the activity of macrophages were detected by CCK-8 assay,cells induced with Pg-LPS were assigned to the blank control group(GC)nanoparticles without ATRA,and experimental groups(GC nanoparticles loaded with different concentrations of ATRA:1,10 and 100µg/mL).The effects of RA-GC on inflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor-α,interleukin(IL)-10 and IL-12 in macrophages were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Subsequently,the effects of GC nanoparticles loaded with/without ATRA on macrophage polarization in an inflammatory environment were detected by RT-PCR and Western blotting.Results The results revealed that RA-GC had no significant effect on macrophage activity.However,RA-GC could effectively inhibit the Pg-LPS-induced inflammatory factor expression in macrophages.Meanwhile,the experimental results confirmed that RA-GC could downregulate the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS)(a marker of M1 macrophages)and upregulate the expression of mannose receptor and Arginase-1(a marker of M2 macrophages)in a dose-dependent manner.Conclusion The present study confirms that RA-GC can promote the M2 polarization of macrophages in an inflammatory environment,and proposes this as a promising target for the clinical treatment of Pg-LPS-related diseases.

The conversion efficiencies reported for Tin(Sn)halide-based perovskite solar cells(PSCs)fall a large gap behind those of lead halide-based PSCs,mainly because of poor film quality of the former.here we report an efficient strategy based on a simple secondary crystallization growth(SCG)technique to improve film quality for tin halide-based PSCs by applying a series of functional amine chlorides on the perovskite surface.They were discovered to enhance the film crystallinity and suppress the oxidation of Sn^(2+)remarkably,hence reduce trap state density and non-irradiative recombination in the absorber films.Furthermore,the SCG film holds the band levels matching better with carrier transport layers and herein favoring charge extraction at the device interfaces.Consequently,a champion device efficiency of 8.07% was achieved alo ng with significant enhancements in VOC and JSC,in contrast to 5.35% of the control device value.Moreover,the SCG film-based devices also exhibit superior stability comparing with the control one.This work explicitly paves a novel and general strategy for developing high performance lead-free PSCs.

Microstructure and Wear Resistance of N-Doped TiO_2 Coatings Grown on Stainless Steel by Plasma Surface Alloying Technology

N doped TiO2 （N-TiO2） coatings were obtained by oxidation of titanium nitride coatings, which were pre pared by the plasma surface alloying technique on stainless steel （SS）. The microstructure of N-TiO2 coatings was characterized by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, glow discharge optical emission spectrometry （GDOES）, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS） and scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, respectively. Ball-on-disc sliding wear was applied to test and compare the tribological behaviors of the coatings and substrate. XRD patterns showed that anatase type TiO2 existed in the coatings after oxidation. GDOES showed that the resultant coatings had a layered structure, comprising of N-TiO2 layer at the top and a diffusion-type interface. Such a hybrid coatings system showed good adhesion with the substrate. According to XPS, residual N atoms partially occupied O atom sites in the TiO2 lattice. Uniform, continuous and compact coatings were observed by SEM images of coatings after oxidation. Under a load of 7.6 N, the coefficient of friction was in the range of 0.27--0.38 for the N-TiO2/Al2O3 systems and the wear rate of the coatings was only one-fourteenth of that for untreated 316L SS. N-TiO2 coatings displayed much better wear resistance and antifrietion performance than SS substrate.

Genome-wide identification and characterization of odorant-binding protein （OBP） genes in the malaria vector Anopheles sinensis （Diptera： Culicidae）

Anopheles sinensis is a major malaria vector. Insect odorant-binding proteins （OBPs） may function in the reception of odorants in the olfactory system. The classification and characterization of the An. sinensis OBP genes have not been systematically studied. In this study, 64 putative OBP genes were identified at the whole-genome level of An. sinensis based on the comparison between OBP conserved motifs, PBP_GOBE and phylogenetic analysis with An. gambiae OBPs. The characterization of An. sinensis OBPs, including the motifs conservation, gene structure, genomic organization and classification, were investigated. A new gene, AsOBP73, belonging to the Plus-C subfamily, was identified with the support of transcript and conservative motifs. These An. sinensis OBP genes were classified into three subfamilies with 37, 15 and 12 genes in the subfamily Classic, Atypical and Plus-C, respectively. The genomic organization of An. sinensis OBPs suggests a clustered distribution across nine different scaffolds. Eight genes （0BP23-28, 0BP63- 64） might originate from a single gene through a series of historic duplication events at least before divergence of Anopheles, Culex and Aedes. The microsynteny analyses indicate a very high synteny between An. sinensis and An. gambiae OBPs. OBP70 and OBP71 earlier classified under Plus-C in An. gambiae are recognized as belonging to the group Obp59a of the Classic subfamily, and OBP69 earlier classified under Plus-C has been moved to the Atypical subfamily in this study. The study established a basic information frame for further study of the OBP genes in insects as well as in An. sinensis.

Spatiotemporal variation of the loose deposits in Baisha River Basin after the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake

Extensive landslides were triggered by the Wenchuan earthquake(in China)on 12 May 2008,causing a tremendous amount of loose material suspended on the hillslopes,likely to be eroded and transported by rain.It is of great significance to study the long-term variation of the quantity and spatiotemporal distribution of loose deposits after a great earthquake in order to understand the restoration process,to assess the risk of future soil erosion,including geological hazards,and to further develop ecological governance strategy.In this study,information about the multi-temporal loose deposits on the ranges of the Baisha River Basin,an alpine valley near the epicenter,was extracted by objectoriented remote sensing interpretation,and analysis on their spatiotemporal variation showed that the earthquake in 2008 resulted in loose deposits covering an additional area of 81.09 km2,with a volume estimated at 0.357 billion m3.Within five years after the earthquake,the vegetation had recovered rapidly,and the extent of the deposits was significantly less.From 5 to 13 years after the earthquake,the vegetation continued to recover but at a slower rate and a decreasing trend in newly formed deposits was evident.The total area,volume and quantity of the loose deposits gradually stabilized.The geometric mean center of the loose deposits gradually moved back towards the upstream area after the earthquake and,by 2021,the mean center was about 4 km away from its pre-earthquake position.Taking the mean center of the loose deposits in 2008 as the center,the deposits in the downstream area shrank significantly after the earthquake,but collapses and landslides of deposits persisted in the upstream area to the west-southwest,west-northwest and northnorthwest from the mean center,indicating future source areas of new loose deposits in the basin.

The mechanical performance and a rate-dependent constitutive model for Al3Ti compound

The Al3Ti compound has potential application in the high temperature structure materials due to its low density,high strength and stiffness.The mechanical behaviors of the material under different loading rates were studied using compression tests.The results indicate that Al3Ti is a typical brittle material and its compressive strength is dependent on the strain rate.Therefore,a series of rate-dependent constitutive equations are needed to describe its mechanical behaviors accurately.However,it is still short of professional research on the material model for Al3Ti.In this study,the mate rial model was developed on the basis of JH-2 constitutive equations using the experimental data.The model was then applied in simulating the impact process of Ti/Al3Ti metal-intermetallic laminate composites so as to validate the established model.Good agreement between simulation and experiment results shows the constitutive model predict the material responses under high rate and large deformation accurately.This work provides more support for the theoretical and numerical research on the intermetallic.

自旋轨道转矩器件实现快速高效的磁性操作,需要提供自旋流的强自旋轨道耦合层具有高的电荷-自旋密度转换效率,以及低的电阻率.本文采用磁控溅射方法生长具有面内磁性的BiSePt合金/Co异质结构,对比BiSePt合金采用共溅射及交替溅射两种生长方式,研究了不同配比下的自旋轨道转矩效率(SOT效率)与合金电阻率.Pt掺杂提高了合金层的金属性,但是逐渐破坏Bi_(2)Se_(3)非晶表面的拓扑序,随着Pt组分的增加,两种竞争的机制使得合金层的自旋霍尔电导率随浓度配比有非单调变化,并且在Bi_(2)Se_(3)组分为67%的配比处达到了优值.相比共溅射方式,交替溅射方式生长合金层的电导率及自旋霍尔角较小,这归因于界面散射的增强及Pt对自旋流的过滤效应.相比于传统的纯重金属Pt和Ta等,以及拓扑绝缘体Bi_(2)Se_(3)等材料,我们的BiSePt合金实现了与工业匹配的生长条件,较高的SOT效率,以及适中的电阻率,对于SOT器件的实际应用很有意义.

Principal Denudation Processes and Their Contribution to Fluvial Suspended Sediment Yields in the Upper Yangtze River Basin and Volga River Basin

This paper synthesized the principal land denudation processes and their role in determining riverine suspended sediment yields(SSY) in two typical geographical environments of the Upper Yangtze River Basin in China and the Volga River Basin in Eastern Europe. In the Upper Yangtze River Basin, natural factors including topography, climate,lithology and tectonic activity are responsible for the spatial variation in the magnitude of denudation rates.Human disturbances have contributed to the temporal changes of soil erosion and fluvial SSY during the past decades. On one hand, land use change caused by deforestation and land reclamation has played an important role in the acceleration of sediment production from the central hilly area and lower Jinsha catchment; On the other hand, diverse soil conservation practices(e.g., reforestation,terracing) have contributed to a reduction of soil erosion and sediment production since the late 1980 s.It was difficult to explicitly decouple the effect of mitigation measures in the Lower Jinsha River Basindue to the complexity associated with sediment redistribution within river channels(active channel migration and significant sedimentation). The whole basin can be subdivided into seven sub-regions according to the different proportional inputs of principal denudation processes to riverine SSY. In the Volga River Basin, anthropogenic sheet, rill and gully erosion are the predominant denudation processes in the southern region, while channel bank and bed erosion constitutes the main source of riverine suspended sediment flux in the northern part of the basin. Distribution of cultivated lands significantly determined the intensity of denudation processes.Local relief characteristics also considerably influence soil erosion rates and SSY in the southern Volga River Basin. Lithology, soil cover and climate conditions determined the spatial distribution of sheet, rill and gully erosion intensity, but they play a secondary role in SSY spatial variation.

Soil nutrients in relation to vertical roots distribution in the riparian zone of Three Gorges Reservoir,China

Since the impoundment of the Three Gorges Reservoir(TGR), the riparian zone has been subjected to numerous environmental changes. This study was conducted to recognize the distribution of grass roots and its impacts on soil nutrients in the water level fluctuation zone of TGR. Roots of four predominant herbaceous plants in the study area, specifically, Cynodon dactylon, hemarthria altissima, hemarthria compressa, and Paspalum paspaloides, and their corresponding relation with soil nutrient contents were investigated. Root surface area density was determined with Win RHIZO, and the relationships of root distribution with soil depths and soil nutrient contents were studied. The results indicates that most roots are distributed in the top soil layer of 0-10 cm. Estimated root surface area density for the selected grass species ranges from 0.16 to 13.44 cm^2/cm^3, and decreases exponentially with an increase in soil depth. Soil organic matter and total nitrogen contents are significantly lower on bare control area than the corresponding values on the grasslands. Total nutrient contents on grasslands of C. dactylon and H. compressa are higher than those of other grass areas. Root length density and root surface area density are significantly correlated with soil organic matter and total nitrogen content for the four grasslands. The present results suggests that plant roots have significant effects on the distribution of soil nutrients in soil profiles in the riparian zone along the TGR. Nevertheless, additional investigations are needed to reveal the specific interactions between plant roots distribution, soil nutrients and water level fluctuations.
