Influence of Filler on the Microstructure, Mechanical Properties and Residual Stresses in TIG Weldments of Dissimilar Titanium Alloys

The influence of titanium alloy(Ti–5 Al–2.5 Sn) and commercially pure titanium(cp Ti) as fillers on dissimilar pulsed tungsten inert gas weldments of Ti–5 Al–2.5 Sn/cp Ti was investigated in terms of microstructure, mechanical/nano-mechanical properties, and residual stresses. A partial martensitic transformation was observed in the weldments for all the welding conditions due to high heat input. The microstructure evolved in the FZ/cp Ti interfacial region was observed to be the most sensitive to the proportion of α stabilizer in the filler alloy. Furthermore, the addition of filler alloy improved the tensile properties and nano-mechanical response of the weld joint owing to the increased volume of metal in the weld joint. As compared to the Ti–5 Al–2.5 Sn wire, the use of cp Ti filler wire proved to be better in terms of energy absorbed during tensile and impact tests, tensile strength and ductility of the dissimilar welds. An asymmetrical residual stresses profile was observed close to the weld centerline, with high compressive stresses on the Ti–5 Al–2.5 Sn side for both the weldments obtained with and without filler wires. This was attributed to mainly the low thermal conductivity of Ti–5 Al–2.5 Sn. The presence of residual stresses also influenced the nano-hardness profile across the weldments.

Root-knot nematodes being omnipresent in agricultural and horticultural soils are tallied among the most important economic pathogens around the *** successful parasitism,these nematodes use various strategies to control and manipulate the host plant’s cell *** strategies include the mole-cular mimicry of some host genes by some nematode secreted effector proteins,secretion of cell wall digesting enzymes and other effector proteins that are responsible for the suppression of defence by the host *** these secretions which are released through the stylet,contribute to the formation of specialized feeding sites or giant *** effector proteins interfere with the normal physiology,cytology and biochemistry of the host *** present review brings novel insights by summarizing some novel effectors that have been discovered recently like MgPDI,MiMIF,MiIDL1,MiISE6,Mg16820,*** also discusses some novel mechanisms through which these effector proteins target different pathways of host plants and thus facilitate nematode parasitism.

The suspension system is a key element in motor vehicles. Advancements in electronics and microprocessor technology have led to the realization of mechatronic suspensions. Since its introduction in some production motorcars in the 1980 s, it has remained an area which sees active research and development, and this will likely continue for many years to come. With the aim of identifying current trends and future focus areas, this paper presents a review on the state-of-the-art of mechatronic suspensions. First, some commonly used classifications of mechatronic suspensions are presented. This is followed by a discussion on some of the actuating mechanisms used to provide control action. A survey is then reported on the many types of control approaches, including look-ahead preview, predictive, fuzzy logic, proportional–integral–derivative(PID), optimal, robust, adaptive, robust adaptive,and switching control. In conclusion, hydraulic actuators are most commonly used, but they impose high power requirements, limiting practical realizations of active suspensions. Electromagnetic actuators are seen to hold the promise of lower power requirements, and rigorous research and development should be conducted to make them commercially usable. Current focus on control methods that are robust to suspension parameter variations also seems to produce limited performance improvements, and future control approaches should be adaptive to the changeable driving conditions.

Background:Universal postoperative guidelines for cataract extraction surgery are yet to be *** tears are gaining popularity as an additional integral component of the postoperative *** primary objective of this study was to explore the impact of two prevalent artificial tear preparations on postoperative discomfort following cataract extraction ***:A total of 180 patients that underwent cataract extraction surgery were randomly divided into three groups according to their postoperative regime:a)Study group 1(SG1)received a fixed combination of tobramycin and dexamethasone(FCTD)quid for 3 weeks and,additionally polyethylene glycol 400/propylene glycol/hydroxypropyl-guar quid,for 6 weeks,b)Study group 2(SG2)received FCTD quid for 3 weeks and,additionally 0.1%sodium hyaluronate provided in the COMOD^(®)device quid,for 6 weeks,and,c)Control Group(CG)received only FCTD quid for 3 *** following indexes were evaluated at three postoperative checkpoints:1)Subjective discomfort index(SDI)derived from four direct 10-scale Likert-type questions that were addressed to the patient and pertained to:a)foreign body sensation(FBS),b)blinking discomfort(BD),c)stinging sensation(SS),d)tearing sensation(TS),2)Tear break-up time(TBUT),3)Central corneal thickness(CCT)and,4)Central Corneal Sensitivity(CCS).Results:Both groups showed increased CCT values at the first examination point and reduced CCS values at all examination ***,both SGs had better TBUT times at all examination points compared to CG(CG:8.86±1.08,SG1:9.59±1.45,CG2:9.45±1.33,p<0.05).BD was significantly better in both SGs only at the 1^(st) week of examination,while SDI values were better until the 3^(rd) week and only borderline better at 6^(th) ***,no significant differences were detected between SGs,regarding all parameters,at all examination ***:Polyethylene glycol 400/propylene glycol/hydroxypropyl-guar and 0.1%sodium hyaluronate provided

A floating point conversion algorithm for mixed precision computations

The floating point number is the most commonly used real number representation for digital computations due to its high precision characteristics. It is used on computers and on single chip applications such as DSP chips. Double precision (64-bit) representations allow for a wider range of real numbers to be denoted. However, single precision (32-bit) operations are more efficient. Recently, there has been an increasing interest in mixed precision computations which take advantage of single precision efficiency on 64-bit numbers. This calls for the ability to interchange between the two formats. In this paper, an algorithm that converts floating point numbers from 64- to 32-bit representations is presented. The algorithm was implemented as a Verilog code and tested on field programmable gate array (FPGA) using the Quartus II DE2 board and Agilent 16821A portable logic analyzer. Results indicate that the algorithm can perform the conversion reliably and accurately within a constant execution time of 25 ns with a 20 MHz clock frequency regardless of the number being converted.

Switchable single and double Brillouin multiwavelength and pulsed laser is successfully demonstrated. Brillouin spacing can be switched from single（0.08 nm） to double spacing（0.16 nm） or vice versa by swapping the ports of the coupler in the proposed configuration. The proposed configuration can also be used to produce pulsed laser by inserting a home-made carbon nanotubes saturable absorber into the laser cavity. The proposed system is very versatile and flexible as it can be used as a multiwavelength laser or pulsed laser to cater for different types of applications.

The prevalence of primary or idiopathic osteoarthritis(OA) of knee and hip joints has substantially increased in general population during the last decades. Analgesics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are currently extensively used as non-surgical treatmentoptions. However, they act as symptomatic treatments, not offering a cure of OA and they are accused for an increased risk of adverse events. Glucosamine(GL) and chondroitin(CH) are nutritional supplements that have recently gained widespread use as treatment options for OA. They potentially or theoretically act as chondroprotectors or/and as "disease-modifying OA drugs" offering not only symptomatic relief but also alteration of the natural history of OA. However, although many studies have showed a significant treatment effect, accompanied with remarkable safety, there is still controversy regarding their relative effectiveness compared with placebo or other treatments. The scope of this review is to present and critically evaluate the current evidence-based information regarding the administration of GL and CH for the treatment of knee or hip OA. Our focus is to investigate the clinical efficacy and safety after the use of these supplements. An effect of GL and CH on both clinical and radiological findings has been shown. However, only a few high-quality level I trials exist in the literature, especially on the assessment of radiological progression of OA. The effect sizes are generally small and probably not clinically relevant. Even the validity of these results is limited by the high risk of bias introduced in the studies. Both GL and CH seem to be safe with no serious adverse events reported. There is currently no convincing information for the efficacy of GL and CH on OA.
