Growth, Proximate Composition and Pigment Production of Tetraselmis chuii Cultured with Aquaculture Wastewater

Microalgae are cultured commercially as healthy food, cosmetic products, food preservatives, and a source of valuable compounds. However, the high cost of commercial culture medium is one of the challenges to microalgal production. Therefore, it is essential to find an alternative cost-effective culture medium. Aquaculture wastewater is considered as a highly potential candidate due to its high nutrient content and large quantity generated from the rapid growth of aquaculture sector. In this study, Tetraselmis chuii cultured in different media with or without wastewater was evaluated for its growth, proximate composition and carotenoid production. The results showed that significantly(P < 0.05) higher growth(4.3 × 105 cells mL^(-1)) and protein(56.4% dry weight), lipid(44% dry weight) and carbohydrate(20% of dry weight) contents were found in T. chuii when they were cultured in the combination of both wastewater and Conway(wastewater + Conway) medium. However, carotenoid production of T. chuii was significantly increased(P < 0.05) when it was cultured in wastewater only, followed by Conway + wastewater and Conway medium only. Therefore, the incorporation of wastewater with commercial medium Convey is recommended for a cost-effective microalgae culture, as well as for the enhancement of growth and nutritional content of microalgae.

The problem of finding stabilizing controllers for switched systems is an area of much research interest as conventional concepts from continuous time and discrete event dynamics do not hold true for these *** solutions have been proposed,most of which are based on finding the existence of a common Lyapunov function(CLF) or a multiple Lyapunov function(MLF) where the key is to formulate the problem into a set of linear matrix inequalities(LMIs).An alternative method for finding the existence of a CLF by solving two sets of linear inequalities(LIs) has previously been *** method is seen to be less computationally taxing compared to methods based on solving *** substantiate this,the computational ability of three numerical computational solvers,LMI solver,cvx,and Yalmip,as well as the symbolic computational program Maple were tested.A specific switched system comprising four second-order subsystems was used as a test *** the obtained solutions,the validity of the controllers and the corresponding CLF was *** was found that all tested solvers were able to correctly solve the *** issue of rounding-off error in numerical computation based software is discussed in *** test revealed that the guarantee of stability became uncertain when the rounding off was at a different decimal *** use of different external solvers led to the same conclusion in terms of the stability of switched *** a result,a shift from using a conventional numerical computation based program to using computer algebra is suggested.

The interfaces between the inorganic metal oxide and organic photoactive layer are of outmost importance for efficiency and stability in organic solar cells(OSCs).Tin oxide(SnO_(2))is one of the promising candidates for the electron transport layer(ETL)in high-performance inverted *** a solution-processed SnO_(2)ETL is employed,however,the presence of interfacial defects and suboptimal interfacial contact can lower the power conversion efficiency(PCE)and operational stability of ***,highly efficient and stable inverted OSCs by modification of the SnO_(2)surface with ultraviolet(UV)-curable acrylate oligomers(SAR and OCS)are *** highest PCEs of 16.6%and 17.0%are achieved in PM6:Y6-BO OSCs with the SAR and OCS,respectively,outperforming a device with a bare SnO_(2)ETL(PCE 13.8%).The remarkable enhancement of PCEs is attributed to the optimized interfacial contact,leading to mitigated surface *** strikingly,improved light-soaking and thermal stability strongly correlated with the interfacial defects are demonstrated for OSCs based on SnO_(2)/UV cross-linked resins compared to OSCs utilizing bare SnO_(2).We believe that UV cross-linking oligomers will play a key role as interfacial modifiers in the future fabrication of large-area and flexible OSCs with high efficiency and stability.

Six New Species of Sawflies from Gansu and Qinghai Provinces of China (Hymenoptera: Tenthredinidae)

Three new Tenthredinidae species are reported from Gansu and three from Qinghai Provinces of China. Tenthredo （Tenthredo） sinotemula sp. nov., Tenthredo （Tenthredella） labrangensis sp. nov. and Tenthredo （Tenthredella） sinosimplex sp. nov. are described from Gansu, Tenthredo （Tenthredella） rolleri sp. nov., Tenthredo （Tenthredella） qinghaiensis sp. nov. and Tenthredo （Tenthredella） yunningsiensis sp. nov. from Qinghai Province.

An analysis of the implementation of a hybrid renewable-energy system in a building by considering the reduction in electricity price subsidies and the reliability of the grid

This article discusses the implementation of a hybrid renewable-energy system to satisfy the electricity requirements of a *** analysis is based on optimization calculations performed using HOMER *** components of the simulated hybrid renewable-energy system include photovoltaics,generators powered by biogas,converters and a *** input data utilized by the HOMER software are derived from measurements and *** electric load curve is obtained through measurements at the location of the case *** surveys,parameters pertaining to the components of the hybrid renewable-energy system were *** analysis was carried out using two sensitivity variables,namely electricity price and grid *** the basis of these two sensitivity variables,optimal system configuration,net present cost,energy cost,return on investment,internal rate of return and payback period were *** results of the analysis indicated that reducing subsidies,which results in higher electricity prices,provided opportuni-ties for economically competitive hybrid renewable-energy *** electricity prices of US$0.094/kWh,the return of investment and the internal rate of return increased to 15%and 19%,respectively,and the payback period decreased to 5.3 *** a hybrid renewable-energy system is implemented in regions with low grid reliability,the same phenomenon occurs.

An experimental study on shock wave mitigation capability of polyurea and shear thickening fluid based suspension pads

The present experimental study investigates shock wave mitigation capability of potentially new personal protective equipment(PPE) suspension pads made from polyurea and shear thickening fluid(STF).The shock tube test results show that when placed behind Twaron fabric systems with thickness ranging from 2 mm to 18 mm, the replacement of conventional flexible foam pad with STF and STF-infused foam pads with the same thickness of 20 mm greatly reduces the normalized peak pressure(by about 72% for each pad). However, this benefit is partially offset by a large increase in the normalized impulse(by about78% for the STF pad and 131% for the STF-infused foam pad) which may cause the shock wave mitigation performance of these two pads to become less effective. Interestingly, the use of 4 mm thick polyurea pad can greatly reduce the normalized peak pressure and impulse as well(by about 74% and 49%, respectively). These results reveal that among the potentially new suspension pads tested, the polyurea pad displays the best shock wave mitigation performance. Therefore, polyurea has potential for use as a suspension pad in personal protective equipment requiring shock wave mitigation capability such as fabric ballistic vests, bomb suits and combat helmets.

Prevalence of visual impairment and related factors in Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan:a cross sectional study

AIM: To determine the prevalence, main causes, and related factors of visual impairment(VI) among people aged 50 y and over in Jalalabad City and four surrounding districts of Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan. METHODS: The data for the population based crosssectional study was collected in 2015. The calculated sample size was 1353, allocated to urban-rural strata using probability proportion to size method. At the end of the study, 1281 people participated in to the study. VI was defined as presenting visual acuity(VA) of less than 6/18 and blindness as VA less than 3/60 in the better eye by using Snellen chart only. Data was analyzed using IBM SPSS 21.0 ***: The prevalence of VI was 22.6%(95%CI, 20%-25%) of which 13.9%(95%CI, 12%-16%) was low vision and 8.7%(95%CI, 7%-10%) was blindness. The most common causes of the VI were cataract(52.8%), followed by uncorrected refractive error(URE)(26.9%) and glaucoma(8.6%). Number one cause of the low vision was URE(42%), followed by cataract, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration(AMD) and diabetic retinopathy(DR), while for blindness they are cataract(72%), other posterior segment disorders, glaucoma, URE and AMD. Illiteracy, bad economic status, hypertension and overweight were factors independently associated with both VI and low vision, whereas, age, illiteracy, bad economic status, hypertension and using of sunglasses were independently associated with ***: Cataract, URE, glaucoma, AMD and DR are the leading causes of VI and blindness in the study area. They are mostly avoidable. In order to decrease theburden of VI and blindness in the study area as well as the whole country, it is strongly recommended to apply the prevention policies of VI and blindness.
