Land Use/Land Cover Change(LUCC) and Eco-Environment response to LUCC in Farming-pastoral Zone,china

In order to understand land use/land cover changes （LUCC） and the eco-environment response to LUCC in farming- pastoral zone of the northern china during the recent twenty years, Baotou prefecture was selected as a case study area for investigation and quantitative evaluation. Technologies of remote sensing （rS）, global positioning system （GpS）, geographic information system （GIS）, and other statistical methods were employed to implement. results showed that：（1） During the recent twenty years, the areas of forest lands, grasslands and water were reduced, whereas the areas of other types were enlarged. parts of forest lands, grasslands, and waters had become farmlands, and about 31.5% of the changed grasslands transferred into unused lands. The newly increased farmlands mainly came from grasslands and unused lands. And the newly increased construction lands mainly came from grasslands and farmlands. （2） regional eco- environmental quality decreased by 12.6%, for which the land degradation （especially the meadow degeneration） and the developing of the cultivated land were mainly responsible, and their contributions to the regional eco-environment changes were 51.84 and 23.63% respectively. （3） The tendency of LUCC and the eco-environment response to LUCC displayed spatial heterogeneity. It can be concluded that the present agricultural production mode was not sustainable in farming-pastoral zone of northern china. Land degradation, especially meadow degradation induced by over-trampling and overgrazing, and developing of cultivated land were mainly responsible for regional eco-environment deterioration. Changing the cultivated land to forest or grass, however, can relieve deterioration of local eco-environment to some extents. And in the farming-pastoral zone in the northern china, evaluating regional eco-environment responses to LUCC was very necessary due to its fragile eco-environments.

Changes in Ecosystem Service Values on the Loess plateau in Northern shaanxi province,china

The Loess plateau in northern shaanxi province of china covers Yulin, Yan＇an, and Tongchuan cities mainly. The kind of physiognomy is complicated and various, including the transitional region of the sand and wind, the hilly-gully fragile region, the pimple mound region from North to South. Large-scale land reclamation projects that are severely affecting these ecosystems have been implemented. In this paper, we reported an investigation to the changes in land use and ecosystem services on the Loess plateau in northern shaanxi province from 1978 to 2000. We used three LANDSAT TM and/or ETM data sets to estimate the changes in the size of five land-cover/land-use categories, and we also used previously published value coefficients to estimate the changes in the value of ecosystem services delivered by each land category. Finally, we ranked the contribution of various ecosystem functions to the overall value of the ecosystem services, we have estimated that the annual value of the ecosystem services is 56.95 billon rMB yuan in the Loess plateau in northern shaanxi province in 2000. In the region, from 1978 to 2000, the economic value of the fixing carbon was higher, the economic value of water conservation was the lowest, but the economic value of the Npp, fixing carbon, and supplying oxygen accounted for above ninety percent of the total value, obviously the vegetation created the biggest ecosystem service value. We can conclude that future land-use policy formulation should give precedence to the conservation of these ecosystems over uncontrolled reclamation, and that further land reclamation should be based on rigorous environmental impact analyses.

运用能值分析方法定量分析了1995～2005年间陕西省生态经济系统的发展变化,并对其未来5年的可持续发展趋势作了预测。研究结果表明:陕西省人均能值使用量在快速增长,由1995年的1.88×1015sej上升到2005年的3.21×1015sej,同期环境负载率也由1.89增长到3.09,能值自给率都高达98%以上;预测模型显示:陕西省2010年环境负载率和可持续发展指数分别为6.15和13.21,这说明陕西省经济的快速发展建立在对本地资源的过度依赖和高强度利用的基础之上,给本地环境生态系统带来了极大的压力,现有的发展模式在一定程度上是不可持续的。

The LGM refugia of deciduous oak and distribution development since the LGM in china

The distribution development of oak has significant effects on ecosystems and ***-term forest distribution studies can help to better understand the vegetation dynamics under climate change or human activities in the *** this study,we integrated different methods(i.e.,palaeoecology,phylogeography,and species distribution models)to investigate the likely locations of glacial refugia and the postglacial development of the main deciduous oak species(i.e.,Quercus variabilis,***,***,***,*** and ***).The results indicated that mountains such as the Changbai,Qinling,and Dabie Mountains acted as the refugia in northern and central china during the Last Glacial Maximum(LGM).The present Quercus in northern china could be the result of local dispersal during the postglacial period rather than only that of long-distance migration from south to *** was the main influencing factor for oak migration,while human activities did not show much influence on this widespread *** topography acted as a buffer and made the mountains act as refugia under a deteriorated *** with other main tree genera(e.g.,pinus and Betula),the refugia locations and migration routes of deciduous oak species were different because of their physiological *** individual migration dynamics of these three genera need to be considered when modelling their dynamics.

A Modified Temperature-Vegetation Dryness Index(MTVDI)for Assessment of Surface Soil Moisture Based on MODIS Data

Spatio-temporal dynamic monitoring of soil moisture is highly important to management of agricultural and vegetation *** temperature-vegetation dryness index based on the triangle or trapezoid method has been used widely in previous ***,most existing studies simply used linear regression to construct empirical models to fit the edges of the feature *** requires extensive data from a vast study area,and may lead to subjective *** this study,a Modified Temperature-Vegetation Dryness Index(MTVDI)was used to monitor surface soil moisture status using MODIS(Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer)remote sensing data,in which the dry edge conditions were determined at the pixel scale based on surface energy *** MTVDI was validated by field measurements at 30 sites for 10 d and compared with the Temperature-Vegetation Dryness Index(TVDI).The results showed that the r^(2) for MTVDI and soil moisture obviously improved(0.45 for TVDI,0.69 for MTVDI).As for spatial changes,MTVDI can also better reflect the actual soil moisture condition than *** a result,MTVDI can be considered an effective method to monitor the spatio-temporal changes in surface soil moisture on a regional scale.

Spatial-temporal differences in in-stream flow requirement based on GIS： A case study of Yan＇an region, northern shaanxi

Although water has the central function of the bloodstream in the biosphere especially in arid or semi-arid regions such as Yah＇an region in northwestern china, yet the very limited attention is paid to the role of the water-related processes in ecosystem. In this research, based on continuous nearly 50-year data including runoff volume, sediment discharge as well as sediment accretion from hydrographic stations, and 10-year information of water quality from pollution monitoring stations, the method for measuring in-stream flow requirement has been put forward supported by experiential models and GIS spatial analysis. Additionally, the changes of in-stream flow requirement for environment and economic development have been addressed from spatial-temporal dimensions. The results show that：（1） According to the central streams in Yan＇an region, mean annual in-stream flow requirement reaches 1.0619 billion m^3, and the surface water for economic exploitation is 0.2445 billion m3 （2） Mean annual in-stream flow requirement for sediment transfers in flood period occupies over 80% of the integrated volume in a year. （3） From the 1950s to 1970s, in-stream flow requirement for sediment transfers is comparatively higher, while from the 1980s to 1990s, this requirement presents a decreasing tendency.

Quantitative analysis of the dynamic change and spatial differences of the ecological security: a case study of Loess plateau in northern shaanxi province

Using the theory and method of the ecological footprint, and combining the changes of regional land use, resource environment, population, society and economy, this paper calculated the ecological footprint, ecological carrying capacity and ecological surplus/loss in 1986-2002 on the Loess plateau in northern shaanxi province. What is more, this paper has put forward the concept of ecological pressure index, set up ecological pressure index models, and ecological security grading systems, and the prediction models of different ecological footprints, ecological carrying capacity, ecological surplus and ecological safety change, and also has assessed the ecological footprint demands of 10,000 yuan GDE The results of this study are as follows：（1） the ecological carrying capacity in northern shaanxi shows a decreasing trend, the difference of reducing range is the fastest; （2） the ecological footprint appears an increasing trend; （3） ecological pressure index rose to 0.91 from 0.44 during 1986-2002 on the Loess plateau of northern shaanxi with an increase of 47%; and （4） the ecological security in the study area is in a critical state, and the ecological oressure index has been increasing rapidlv.

The causes of land landscape changes in semi-arid area of Northwest china: a case study of Yulin city

rapid land landscape change has taken place in many arid and semi-arid regions such as the vulnerable ecological area over the last decade. In this paper, we quantified land landscape change of Yulin in this area between 1985 and 2000 using remote sensing and GIS. It was found that fallow landscape decreased by 125,148 hm^2 while grassland and woodland increased by 107,975 hm^2 and 17,157 hm^2, respectively. The major factors responsible for these changes are identified as the change in the government policy on preserving the environment, continued growth in mining, and urbanization. The efforts in restoring the deteriorated ecosystem have reaped certain benefits in reducing the spatial extent of sandy land through replacement by non-irrigated farmland, woodland and grassland. On the other hand, continued expansion of mining industry and urbanization has exerted adverse impacts on the land landscape. At present regional economic development conflicts directly with the protection of the natural environment. Such a conflict has caused the destruction to the land resources and fragmentation of the landscape accompanied by land desertification, the case is even serious in some localities.
