Genistein suppresses the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway in hippocampal neurons in rats with Alzheimer's disease

Genistein is effective against amyloid-β toxicity, but the underlying mechanisms are unclear. We hypothesized that genistein may protect neurons by inhibiting the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway, and thereby play a role in the prevention of Alzheimer＇s disease. A rat model of Alzheimer＇s disease was established by intraperitoneal injection of D-galactose and intracerebral injection of amyloid-β peptide （25-35）. In the genistein treatment groups, a 7-day pretreatment with genistein （10, 30, 90 mg/kg） was given prior to establishing Alzheimer＇s disease model, for 49 consecutive days. Terminal deoxyribonucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling assay demonstrated a reduction in apoptosis in the hippocampus of rats treated with genistein. Western blot analysis showed that expression levels of capase-3, Bax and cytochrome c were decreased compared with the model group. Furthermore, immunohistochemical staining revealed reductions in cytochrome c and Bax immunoreactivity in these rats. Morris water maze revealed a substantial shortening of escape latency by genistein in Alzheimer＇s disease rats. These findings suggest that genistein decreases neuronal loss in the hippocampus, and improves learning and memory ability. The neuroprotective effects of genistein are associated with the inhibition of the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway, as shown by its ability to reduce levels of caspase-3, Bax and cytochrome c.

The extruded Mg-7Y-1Nd-0.5Zr(wt%)alloy were performed to the same strain hot rolling with different *** microstructure and texture evolution of the sheets were investigated by optical microscopy(OM),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),and electron back-scattered diffraction(EBSD).The results indicate that the microstructure becomes homogeneous after hot rolling process and precipitated phase distributes at grain boundaries along rolling *** the increase in rolling temperature,the grains of sheet grow *** sheet rolling at 400℃is composed of recrystallization grains,the necklace of the precipitated phase in the grain boundaries and excessive *** structure of necklace of the precipitated phase is fcc structure with lattice constant of a=0.75 *** rolling temperatures increasing from 400 to 450℃,the content of recrystallized grains in volume fraction with relatively random orientations increases *** with the rolling process at 400℃,the amount of precipitated phases is reduced at the grain boundary,and the precipitated phase begins to appear in the grain interior when rolling at 450℃.The structure of the precipitated phase is fcc with lattice constant of a=2.22 *** recrystallization grains begin to grow in the rolling process at 500℃.The basal texture is obviously produced during the rolling process at 400 and 450℃;however,the basal texture is weak in the rolling process at 500℃.

We investigated the nonsequential double ionization(NSDI)in Ar by two-color elliptically polarized laser field with a three-dimensional(3D)classical ensemble *** study the relative phase effect of NSDI and distinguish two particular recollision channels in NSDI,which are recollision–impact ionization(RII)and recollision-induced excitation with subsequent ionization(RESI),according to the delay-time between the recollision and the final double *** numerical results indicate that the ion momentum distribution is changed and the triangle structure is more obvious with the decrease of the relative *** also demonstrate that the RESI process always dominates in the whole double ionization process and the ratio of RESI and RII channels can be influenced by the relative phase.

In recent years,the conventional degrees of freedom in frequency and time have been fully *** is difficult to further improve the performance of communication systems with such degrees of *** angular momentum(OAM),which provides a new degree of freedom for millimeter-wave(mmWave)wireless communication systems,has been recognized as a key enabling technique for future mobile communication *** combining OAM beams that have theoretically infinite and mutually orthogonal states with the generalized spatial modulation(GSM)strategy,a new OAM-GSM mmWave wireless communication system is designed in this paper.A bit error rate(BER)model of the OAM-GSM system is established based on channel flip *** channel capacity,energy efficiency,and BER of the proposed OAM-GSM mmWave wireless communication system are *** results show that,compared with traditional GSM systems,the OAM-GSM system has more complex transmission and reception mechanisms but the channel capacity and maximum achievable energy efficiency are increased by 80%and 54%,respectively,and the BER drops by 91.5%.

The narrow bandgap of the low-energy near-infrared(NIR)polymer would lead to overlap between adjacent energy levels,which is a major barrier to the preparation of Vis-NIR polymer bulk hetero-junction(BHJ)photodetectors with small responsivity and *** this study,a high-performance lateral inorganic-organic hybrid photodetector was constructed to eliminate this barrier by combining GaN nanowires(GaN-NWs)with PDPP3T:PC61BM-based *** stage one,high-quality GaN-NWs were synthesized by the catalyst-free CVD *** mechanism for controlling GaN-NWs morphology by adjusting the NH3 flow rate was *** stage two,the GaN-NWs with large electron mobility were used to accelerate the transfer of photogenerated carriers in the BHJ ***,compared with the BHJ device,the BHJ/GaN device demonstrated obvious improvements in responsivity and photocurrent at the wavelength between 400 and 1000 *** responsivity and photocurrent increased over 20-fold at the NIR band of 800e900 ***,owing to the energy level gradient effect,the BHJ/GaN device has a response speed of 7.8/han that of the GaN-NWs-based device(tr/tf:7.1/10.9 s).Therefore,the novel device structure proposed in this work holds great potential for preparing high-performance Vis-NIR photodetectors.

In this research,the conditions for extraction of phenolics from leaves of Ficus virens were optimized using response surface methodology(RSM).The extraction abilities of phenolics(EAP) and flavonoids(EAF),the 2,2-diphenyl-1-pierylhydrazyl(DPPH) free-radical scavenging potential,and the ferric reducing/antioxidant power(FRAP) were used as quality *** results of single-factor experiments showed that temperature,ethanol concentration,extraction time,and the number of extraction cycles were the main influencing variables,and these provided key information for the central composite *** results of RSM fitted well to a second degree polynomial model and more than 98% of the variability was *** ideal extraction conditions for EAP,EAF,DPPH free-radical scavenging potential,and FRAP were *** the four quality indicators overall,the ideal extraction conditions were 58% ethanol at 57 °C for 37 min with three extraction *** the ideal extraction conditions,the values of EAP,EAF,DPPH free-radical scavenging potential,and FRAP were 5.72%,3.09%,58.88 mg ascorbic acid equivalent(AAE)/g dry weight(DW),and 15.86 mg AAE/g DW,*** addition,linear correlations were observed between EAP,EAF,and antioxidant potential.

Nanoscale zero-valent iron particles(NZVI) produced by using green tea(GT) extract as a reductant can remove Cr(Ⅵ) from water effectively,which can be utilized in groundwater *** order to define the reaction mechanism and removal effect in the aquifer,in this study,GT-NZVI particles were prepared and measured by some characterization methods to define their surface performance,and then batch and one-dimensional experiments were carried out to reveal the reaction properties of GT-NZVI and Cr(Ⅵ) in *** results showed that the prepared GT-NZVI particles were regular spherical with a diameter of 10-20 nm,which could disperse in water *** main component of GT-NZVI wasα-Fe with superficial polyphenols as a ***-NZVI suspension had good ability to reduce the Cr(Ⅵ) to Cr(Ⅲ) in *** the concentration of GT-NZVI was 1 g/L,the removal efficiency of Cr(Ⅵ)with an initial concentration of 100 mg/L reached 92.8% in 1 h *** column tests,GT-NZVI passed through the natural sand column successfully with an average outflow percentage of 71.2%.The simulated in-situ reaction zone(IRZ) with GT-NZVI was used to remediate Cr(Ⅵ) contaminated *** oufflow concentration of Cr(Ⅵ) kept in 0.14-0.32 mg/L corresponding to the outflow rate below 0.32%within 15 days,and the removal efficiency of Cr(Ⅵ) by IRZ with GT-NZVI decreased with the increase of aquifer medium particle size,groundwater flow rate and ionic *** of Cr(Ⅲ) as reduzate was adsorbed or immobilized on the surface or in the lattice of GT-NZVI,which indicated effective immobilization for chromium.
