BACKGROUND In resource-limited countries,risk stratification can be used to optimize colorectal cancer *** prospective risk prediction models exist for advanced neoplasia(AN)in true average-risk *** To create and internally validate a risk prediction model for detection of AN in mEThODS Prospective study of asymptomatic individuals undergoing first screening *** characteristics including diet,exercise and medications were *** logistic regression was used to elucidate risk factors for AN(adenoma≥1 cm,villous histology,high-grade dysplasia or carcinoma).The model was validated through bootstrapping,and discrimination and calibration of the model were *** 980 consecutive individuals(51%F;49%m)were *** and AN detection rates were 36.6%(F 29%:m 45%;Pm 6.5%)*** multivariate analysis,predictors of AN[OR(95%CI)]were age[1.036(1.00-1.07);P=0.048],BmI[overweight 2.21(0.98-5.00);obese 3.54(1.48-8.50);P=0.018],smoking[meat consumption[2.02(0.92-4.42)P=0.079].Nomograms of AN risk were developed in terms of risk factors and age separately for normal,overweight and obese *** model had good discrimination and *** The prevalence of adenoma and AN in average-risk Lebanese individuals is similar to the ***,smoking,and BmI are important predictors of AN,with obesity being particularly *** external validation is needed,this model provides an important platform for improved risk-stratification for screening programs in regions where universal screening is not currently employed.

We present the development of a bias compensating reinforcement learning(RL)algorithm that optimizes thermal comfort(by minimizing tracking error)and control utilization(by penalizing setpoint deviations)in a multi-zone heating,ventilation,and air-conditioning(hVAC)lab facility subject to unmeasurable disturbances and unknown *** is shown that the presence of unmeasurable disturbance results in an inconsistent learning equation in traditional RL controllers leading to parameter estimation bias(even with integral action support),and in the extreme case,the divergence of the learning *** demonstrate this issue by applying the popular Q-learning algorithm to linear quadratic regulation(LQR)of a multi-zone hVAC environment and showing that,even with integral support,the algorithm exhibits bias issue during the learning phase when the hVAC disturbance is unmeasurable due to unknown heat gains,occupancy variations,light sources,and outside weather *** address this difficulty,we present a bias compensating learning equation that learns a lumped bias term as a result of disturbances(and possibly other sources)in conjunction with the optimal control *** results show that the proposed scheme not only recovers the bias-free optimal control parameters but it does so without explicitly learning the dynamic model or estimating the disturbances,demonstrating the effectiveness of the algorithm in addressing the above challenges.

Nanosecond Pulse Generation Using the Stimulated Brillouin Scattering Effect in a Photonic Crystal Fiber

A nanosecond pulsed laser is demonstrated using the stimulated Brillouin scattering(SBS)effect in a nonlinear photonic crystal fiber(PCF).The Brillouin fiber laser(BFL)uses a 50-m-long PCF in a simple ring cavity to generate a self-starting pulse as the Brillouin power reaches 16.5 dBm based on the relaxation oscillation *** BFL generates a pulse train with repetition rates of 2.7 mhz and 5.4 mhz depending on the BP *** pulse width of the laser is obtained to be 190 ns at the BP power of 16.5 dBm and is maintained at around 72 ns as the pump power is set within 17.7 dBm and 18.5 *** maximum pulse energy of 20 nj is obtained at BP power of 17.4 *** SBS based pulse laser is fairly stable at room temperature.

A simple technique for achieving a stable, room temperature and multi-wavelength lasing with narrow linewidth is demonstrated using Brillouin ber laser （BFL） with a 100-m-long photonic crystal ber （PCF） in conjunction with a dual-pass configuration. A broadband ber Bragg grating （FBG） operating in the C-band region is incorporated at the end side of the setup to allow a dual-pass operation. The proposed BFL can operate at any wavelength depending on the Brillouin pump wavelength and the FBG＇s reflection region used. With a Brillouin pump （BP） of 15.7 dBm, approximately 7 Stokes and 4 anti-Stokes lines are obtained with a line spacing of 0.08 nm.

Analytical studies on electromagnetoelastic behaviors are presented for the functionally graded piezoelectric material （FGPm） solid cylinder and sphere placed in a uniform magnetic field and subjected to the external pressure and electric loading. When the mechanical, electric and magnetic properties of the material obey an identical power law in the radial direction, the exact displacements, stresses, electric potentials and perturbations of magnetic field vector in the FGPm solid cylinder and sphere are obtained by using the infinitesimal theory of electromagnetoelasticity. Numerical examples also show the significant influence of material inhomogeneity. It is interesting to note that selecting a specific value of inhomogeneity parameter β can optimize the electromagnetoelastic responses, which will be of particular importance in modern engineering designs.

Photoelectrochromic device is a combination of dye-sensitized solar cells and el ectrochromic WO3 layers. Ectrochroelmic WO3 layer and TiO2 layer had been prepar ed by the sol-gel process, then be assembled to pohotoelectrochromic device. The effects of heating temperature on photoelectrochromic were investigated. The re sults showed that thin films prepared by dip-coating and spin-coating had good f ilm quality and the device made by the method mentioned in the paper had good ph otoelectrochromic properties.

Superparamgnetic Fe_3O_4 and RE:Fe_3O_4(RE=Dy,Nd,La)nanoparticles with an average crystallite size in the range of 15–24 nm,were synthesized by co-precipitation *** samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEm),vibrating sample magnetometer(VSm),UV–Vis spectroscopy,LCR bridge,and two-probe technique.X-ray diffraction patterns of all the investigated samples reveal the typical phase of magnetite structure,with a small contribution of orthoferrite(NdFeO_3)as a secondary phase in Nd:Fe_3O_4 *** saturation magnetization(m_s)of the samples has values in the range from 41.8 to 52.3 emu/g,and decreases with RE ion doping depending on the ionic *** values of the coercivity h_c and remanencem_r,indicate the superparamagnetic nature of the investigated *** calculated values of indirect optical band gap of Fe_3O_4 and RE:Fe_3O_4 nanoparticles are in the range of0.9–1.25 *** dielectric constant of the samples decreases,while their activation energy increases with the increasing of ionic radii of dopants.

Nanoparticles(NPs)can promote the column flotation process in mining ***'effects on column flotation process(copper recovery,grade and flotation rate constant)are assessed in Sarcheshmeh Copper Complex,Iran,through response surface methodology(RSm)optimization *** c-Al2O3,a-Fe2O3,SiO2,and TiO2 nanoparticles are selected for these experiments.A flotation rate constant is chosen as a response to assess the effect of nanoparticles on flotation in its kinetic *** process p h and nanoparticle dosage are selected as the influential *** obtained from RSm indicated that the maximum percentage of Cu recovery and grade is obtained at p h of 12 and nanoparticle dosage of 6 kg/t,through a-Fe2O3 and c-Al2O3 nanoparticles,*** nanoparticles in particular c-Al2O3 and a-Fe2O3 increases the Cu recovery by 8–10%together with the grade by 3–6%in a significant *** is revealed that nanoparticles could effectively be applied in enhancing the flotation performance.
