Characteristics and demographic factors of traditional Chinese medicine constitution types among elderly individuals in China: A national multistage cluster random study

Objective: To reveal the distribution characteristics and demographic factors of traditional Chinese medicine (TCm) constitution among elderly individuals in China. methods: Elderly individuals from seven regions in China were selected as samples in this study using a multistage cluster random sampling method. The basic information questionnaire and Constitution in Chinese medicine Questionnaire (Elderly Edition) were used. Descriptive statistical analysis, chi-squared tests, and binary logistic regression analysis were used. Results: The single balanced constitution (BC) accounted for 23.9%. The results of the major TCm constitution types showed that BC (43.2%) accounted for the largest proportion and unbalanced constitutions ranged from 0.9% to 15.7%. East China region (odds ratio [OR] = 2.097; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.912 to 2.301), married status (OR = 1.341; 95% CI, 1.235 to 1.457), and managers (OR = 1.254; 95% CI, 1.044 to 1.505) were significantly associated with BC. Age >70 years was associated with qi-deficiency constitution and blood stasis constitution (BSC). Female sex was significantly associated with yang-deficiency constitution (OR = 1.646; 95% CI, 1.52 to 1.782). Southwest region was significantly associated with phlegm-dampness constitution (OR = 1.809; 95% CI, 1.569 to 2.086). North China region was significantly associated with inherited special constitution (OR = 2.521; 95% CI, 1.569 to 4.05). South China region (OR = 2.741; 95% CI, 1.997 to 1.3.763), Central China region (OR = 8.889; 95% CI, 6.676 to 11.835), senior middle school education (OR = 2.442; 95% CI, 1.932 to 3.088), and managers (OR = 1.804; 95% CI, 1.21 to 2.69) were significantly associated with BSC. Conclusions: This study defined the distribution characteristics and demographic factors of TCm constitution in the elderly population. A novel diurnal and seasonal variation analysis of BTEX in Bengaluru urban area

In the urban atmosphere of Bengaluru, various volatile organic compounds(VOCs), particularly Benzene,Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylene(BTEX), have shown an increasing trend in concentration. The present research was conducted during summer and monsoon seasons, focusing on Kadubeesanahalli, a high-traffic area within the Bengaluru metropolitan City. hourly sample data was collected using a BTEX analyzer(model GC955-600) and subsequently transformed into daily, monthly, and seasonal values. The study revealed distinct patterns in benzene concentrations. Benzene levels were lowest during the early morning hours, specifically from 1:00 *** 7:00 a.m.. Concentrations then increased from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and again from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.,corresponding to the morning and evening peak traffic hours. however, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., the concentration decreased due to reduced traffic levels. These diurnal variations in benzene concentration are influenced by meteorological parameters. Comparing the two seasons, higher concentrations of Benzene, EthylBenzene, and mP-xylene were observed during the summer season. This increase is attributed to the elevated temperatures during summer, which promote the vaporization of BTEX compounds. Conversely, lower BTEX concentrations were recorded during the monsoon season due to the wet deposition process. The observed positive correlation(r > 0.5) among BTEX parameters strongly suggests a common source, most likely originating from vehicular emissions.

Detection of hBV DNA integration in plasma cell-free DNA of different hBV diseases utilizing DNA capture strategy

The landscape of hepatitis B virus (hBV) integration in the plasma cell-free DNA (cfDNA) of hBV-infected patients with different stages of liver diseases [chronic hepatitis B (ChB), liver cirrhosis (LC), and hepatocellular carcinoma (hCC)] remains unclear. In this study, we developed an improved strategy for detecting hBV DNA integration in plasma cfDNA, based on DNA probe capture and next-generation sequencing. Using this optimized strategy, we successfully detected hBV integration events in ch.m.ric artificial DNA samples and hBV-infected hepG2-NTCP cells at day one post infection, with high sensitivity and accuracy. The characteristics of hBV integration events in the hBV-infected hepG2-NTCP cells and plasma cfDNA from hBV-infected individuals (ChB, LC, and hCC) were further investigated. A total of 112 and 333 integration breakpoints were detected in the hepG2-NTCP cells and 22 out of 25 (88%) clinical hBV-infected samples, respectively. In vivo analysis showed that the normalized number of support unique sequences (nnsus) in hCC was significantly higher than in ChB or LC patients (P values mly distributed on h.m.n chromosomes and are enriched in the hBV genome around nt 1800. The majority of integration breakpoints (61.86%) are located in the gene-coding region. Both non-h.m.logous end-joining (NhEJ) and microh.m.logy-mediated end-joining (mmEJ) interactions occurred during hBV integration across the three different stages of liver diseases. Our study provides evidence that hBV DNA integration can be detected in the plasma cfDNA of hBV-infected patients, including those with ChB, LC, or hCC, using this optimized strategy. © 2024 The Authors

Effect of mitomycin C on the corneal endothelial cells of Saudi patients with.m.opia after transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy:a two-armed cohort study

We recently read the opinion piece titled“Why people should run after positive affective experiences instead of health benefits”,which was carried out by maltagliati et al.^(1)and published in the Journal of Sport and health *** article started an important discussion about a physical activity(PA)promotion approach that encourages the use of affective experience to PA *** we agree with the authors’point of view and believe that its message can generate an important insight for PA promotion,the authors presented a scenario where behavior change seems to be exclusively dependent on the *** the existence of other barriers to an active lifestyle(e.g.,social inequalities)could enhance the authors’suggested approach because many people live in conditions that reduce their opportunities to engage in affective experiences related to PA;furthermore,affective experiences can vary depending on individual context.
