Understanding arsenic behavior in alluvial aquifers:Evidence from sediment geochemistry,solute chemistry and environmental isotopes

The hydro-geochemistry and isotopic variations in groundwater,coupled with sediment geochemistry,were investigated in the Middle Gangetic Plain,India,to better understand the aquifer dynamics that influence the arsenic(As)evolution and ***-four groundwater samples,thirteen River water samples,and two sediment cores(33 mbgl)were *** samples were analyzed for major ions and trace metals,including As and stable isotopic variability(δ^(2)h,δ^(18)O,andδ^(13)C).The study area was categorized into older and younger alluvium based on existing geomorphological *** alluvium exhibits higher As enrichment in sediment and groundwater,ranging of 2.59–31.52 mg/kg and bdl to 0.62 mg/*** samples were thermodynamically more stable with As(Oh)_(3)species ranging from 88.5%to 91.4%and FeOOh from 69%to 81%,*** and mineralogical analysis suggested goethite and siderite act as a source and sink for ***,statistical analysis suggested reductive dissolution as the primary mechanism for As mobilization in the study ***-temporal analysis revealed elevated concentrations of As in the central and northeastern regions of the study *** isotope(δ^(2)h andδ^(18)O)analysis inferred active recharge conditions primarily driven by *** depleted d-excess value and enrichedδ^(18)O in the groundwater of younger alluvium indicate the effect of groundwater recharge with significant evaporation *** recharge potentially decreased the quantity of arsenic in groundwater,whereas evaporation enrichment increased *** infiltration during recharge introduces oxygenated water into the aquifer,leading to changes in the redox conditions and facilitating biogeochemical *** carbon isotope(δ^(13)C)results suggest that high microbial activity in younger alluvium promotes As leaching from sediment into the groundwater.

hydrogen with high energy density is an environmental alternative to fossil fuels which can respond to the demand for energy considering environmental *** can be stored on porous materials employing physical interaction(*** process).The h2storage capacity of materials can be evaluated through electrochemical ***,a fast and straightforward approach was employed to fabricate magnesium oxide/chitosan/Au nanoparticles(Mg O/CS/Au)nanocomposites with porous structure for electrochemical hydrogen ***,laser ablation in water as a fast and green method was utilized to obtain Au nanoparticles(Au NPs).The obtained Au NPs were loaded on Mg O/CS nanocomposite through physical *** and morphological investigation of nanocomposites display spherically shaped Au NPs with a diameter of 49–58 nm agglomerated on the Mg O/*** casting,the fast and cost-effective method was deployed to deposit the benign,and reusable Mg O/CS/Au-x(x is Au NPs weight percentage of 1,3 and 5 wt.%)nanocomposites on stainless steel mesh and their electrochemical hydrogen storage were measured by cyclic voltammetry(CV),indicating good stability and significant hydrogen storage capacity(28 C/g)after 300 CV scans for MgO/CS/Au-1 sample.

Prepore formation is hypothesized to be an obligate step in the insertion of Cry1Ab toxin into insect brush border membrane vesicles. We examined the architecture of the putative prepore when isolated using the published protocols [1] [2]. Our results demonstrate that the putative prepore form of Cry1Ab is a combination of receptor proteins attached to the toxin, when purified. The results also suggest that this prepore form as prepared by the methods published is different from other membrane-extracted oligomeric forms of Cry toxins and prepore of other toxins in general. While most other known prepores are composed of multimers of a single protein, the Cry1Ab prepore, as generated, is a protein-receptor complex oligomer and monomers of Cry toxins.

Magnesium phosphate conversion coating(MPCC)was fabricated on AZ31magnesium alloy for corrosion protection by immersion treatment in a simple MPCC solution containing Mg2+and3PO4?*** MPCC on AZ31Mg alloy showed micro-cracks structure and a uniform thickness with the thickness of about2.5μm after20min of phosphating *** composition analyzed by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed that the coating consisted of magnesium phosphate and magnesium hydroxide/oxide *** MPCC showed a significant protective effect on AZ31Mg *** corrosion current of MPCC was reduced to about3%of that of the uncoated surface and the time for the deterioration process during immersion in0.5mol/L NaCl solution improved from about10min to about24h.

herein,we develop cost-efficient superhigh-performance of engineering carbonaceous adsorbent from cigarette butts using combined wet-impregnated and re-dispersed method of kOh,which optimizes the implant approach of activator,breaking the restriction of selective capture of toluene using traditional activated *** Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET)surface area and pore volume of targeted adsorbent can attain 3088 m^(2)·g^(-1) and 1.61 cm^(3)·g^(-1),respectively,by optimizing the temperaturedependent synthetic factor effect of the *** adsorption capacity of resultant adsorbent for presenting volatile benzene and toluene shows a positive correlation with increasing carbonization temperature of carbon ***,we demonstrated the unsmoked and smoked butts derived adsorbents afford feeble difference in saturated adsorbed capacity of volatile organic compounds(VOCs).The highest adsorption capacity of sample CF-800 for benzene and toluene in CF group is as high as 1268.1 and 1181.6 mg·g^(-1) respectively,slightly higher than that of sample UF-800,but far outperforming reported other *** predicted adsorption selectivity of CF-800 and UF-800 for C_(7)h_(8)/h_(2)O(g)using the DIh(difference of isosteric heats)equation reach up to ca.3800 and 7500 respectively,indicating the weak adsorbability of water vapor on the developed adsorbent and greater superiority of the smoked butts derived adsorbents in selective capture of VOCs at low relative humidity in the competitive adsorption process for practical mixed VOCs.

BACkGROUND: In the setting of severe sepsis and septic shock, mortality increases when lactate levels are ≥ 4 mmol/L. however, the consequences of lower lactate levels in this population are not well understood. The study aimed to determine the in-hospital mortality associated with severe sepsis and septic shock when initial lactate levels are his is a retrospective cohort study of septic patients admitted over a 40-month period. Totally 338 patients were divided into three groups based on initial lactate values. Group 1 had lactate levels he primary outcome was in-hospital ***: There were 111 patients in group 1, 96 patients in group 2, and 131 in group 3. The mortality rates were 21.6%, 35.4%, and 51.9% respectively. Univariate analysis revealed the mortality differences to be statistically significant. Multivariate logistic regression demonstrated higher odds of death with higher lactate tier group, however the findings did not reach statistical ***: This study found that only assignment to group 3, initial lactic acid level of ≥ 4 mmol/L, was independently associated with increased mortality after correcting for underlying severity of illness and organ dysfunction. however, rising lactate levels in the other two groups were associated with increased severity of illness and were inversely proportional to prognosis.

Iraq faces water scarcity due to a shortage of surface water resources. People in Safwan (Basrah, Iraq) and its environs use brackish groundwater as alternative resource. To improve water quality, small reverse osmosis (RO) plants have been established. The water selling price is (1.3 $/m3)* which does not cover the product cost which is (2.4 $/m3)*. Data were collected from eight plants, and a techno-economic assessment was conducted to explore the ideal cost. The known effective factored considered in this case, recovery ratio, temperature and total dissolved solids (TDS). From the other side, membrane replacement and energy cost were significantly effect, when their portions of the total production cost were 30.98%* and 48.38%* respectively as shown in Figure 10. In addition, software analysis was used to predict the scaling potential in raw water samples. Its results showed a high inorganic fouling (scaling) potential. Scaling has a permanent influence on operations and maintenance costs. These identified major cost influencers will be incorporated into the experimental design of the next phase of this ongoing research programme.
