BACKGrOUND Individuals with benign kidney disorders undergoing nephrectomy have three possibilities:Autotransplantation,with a certain risk of complications,but without a clear benefit;discarding the kidney;or living kidney *** To investigate whether patients with benign kidney disorders and a medical indication for nephrectomy are suitable as unspecified live kidney *** We searched all clinical data from 1994-2019 for unspecified donors and their transplant recipients(n=160).Nine of these 160 donors had pre-existing kidney disorders necessitating nephrectomy and had decided to donate their kidney anonymously after discussing the possibility of kidney *** studied the clinical course of these nine donating patients and their transplant *** Seven of nine donating patients indicated unbearable loin pain as the main complaint,one donating patient refused ureterocutaneostomy and one had two aneurysms of the renal ***,seven donating patients described absence of pain and one a significant reduction after the *** average 1-year creatinine level in the donating patients was 88μmol/L and after a median of 6.9 years the average creatinine level was 86.6μmol/*** the transplant recipients,one major complication occurred which led to death and in one transplant recipient graft function failed to normalize at first but has been stable for nine years ***,all transplant recipients are off *** Our data show that patients undergoing nephrectomy as part of treatment in selected kidney disorders can function as live kidney donors.

The effect of base material（BM） on microstructure and crystallographic orientation evolution of a Ti–6Al–4V electron-beam welded joint was investigated. Meanwhile, the crystallographic orientation of prior b grains was studied by advanced electron backscattered diffraction data processing. The inhomogeneity of microstructure within welded joint was formed due to the different microstructures of BM. By comparing microstructure details of the welded joint, including microstructure morphology and crystallographic orientation with those of the base material, it can be found that both the microstructure morphology and crystallographic orientation of the EBW joint would be controlled by BM.

A structural topological optimization method for multi-displacement constraints and any initial topology configuration

In density-based topological design, one expects that the final result consists of elements either black （solid material） or white （void）, without any grey areas. Moreover, one also expects that the optimal topology can be obtained by starting from any initial topology configuration. An improved structural topological optimization method for multidisplacement constraints is proposed in this paper. In the proposed method, the whole optimization process is divided into two optimization adjustment phases and a phase transferring step. Firstly, an optimization model is built to deal with the varied displacement limits, design space adjustments, and reasonable relations between the element stiffness matrix and mass and its element topology variable. Secondly, a procedure is proposed to solve the optimization problem formulated in the first optimization adjustment phase, by starting with a small design space and advancing to a larger deign space. The design space adjustments are automatic when the design domain needs expansions, in which the convergence of the proposed method will not be affected. The final topology obtained by the proposed procedure in the first optimization phase, can approach to the vicinity of the optimum topology. Then, a heuristic algorithm is given to improve the efficiency and make the designed structural topology black/white in both the phase transferring step and the second optimization adjustment phase. And the optimum topology can finally be obtained by the second phase optimization adjustments. Two examples are presented to show that the topologies obtained by the proposed method are of very good 0/1 design distribution property, and the computational efficiency is enhanced by reducing the element number of the design structural finite model during two optimization adjustment phases. And the examples also show that this method is robust and practicable.

AIM:To investigate the role of osteopontin(OPN) and its splice variants in the proliferation of hepatocellular carcinoma(hCC).METhODS:The expression of OPN variants in hCC cell lines as well as hCC tissue samples and nontumour tissue was studied using polymerase chain *** variant cDNAs were cloned into a mammalian expression vector allowing both transient expression and the production of stable OPN expressing cell *** expression was studied in these cells using Western blotting,immunofluoresnce and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay.A CD44 blocking antibody and sirNA targeting of CD44 were used to examine the role of this receptor in the OPN stimulated cell growth observed in ***-7 cells stably expressing either OPN-A,-B or-C were injected subcutaneously into the flanks of nude mice to observe in vivo tumour *** of OPN mrNA and protein in these tumours was examined using reverse transcriptionpolymerase chain reaction and ***:OPN is expressed in hCC in 3 forms,the full length OPN-A and 2 splice variants OPN-B *** variant expression was noted in hCC tissue as well as cognate surrounding cirrhotic liver *** of these OPN variants in the hCC derived cell line huh-7 resulted in secretion of OPN into the culture *** of OPN conditioned media to na ve huh-7 and hepG2 cells resulted in significant cell growth suggesting that all OPN variants can modulate cell proliferation in a paracrine *** the OPN mediated increase in cellular proliferation was dependent on CD44 as only CD44 positive cell lines responded to OPN conditioned media while sirNA knockdown of CD44 blocked the proliferative *** expression also increased the proliferation of huh-7 cells in a subcutaneous nude mouse tumour model,with huh-7 cells expressing OPN-A showing the greatest proliferative ***:This study demonstrates that OPN plays a significant role in the proliferation of hCC thro

The effects of rod falling and moving, external flow field, boiling film and radiation were investigated on fluid flow and heat transfer of AISI 4140 steel horizontal rod during direct quenching by mathematical modeling. The flow field and heat transfer in quenching tank were simulated by computational fluid dynamics （CFD） method considering falling and moving of rods during process. Therefore, modeling of flow field was done by a fixed-mesh method for general moving objects equations, and then, energy equation was solved with a numerical approach so that effeet of boiling film heat flux was considered as a source term in energy equation for solid-liquid boundary. Simulated results were verified by comparing with published and experimental data and there was a good agreement between them. Also, the effects of external forced flow and film boiling were investigated on heat flux output, temperature distribution and heat transfer coefficient of rod. Also simulated results determined optimum quenching time for this process.

The South African gold mining sector remains a significant contributor to the country’s *** several challenges that hinder the realisation of South Africa’s full mineral potential,the sector’s sustainability and profitability can be enhanced through implementing operational improvement *** cooling units(MCUs)were identified as a potential focus area for operational *** are used as tertiary or in-stope cooling in hot underground *** this paper,a method was presented to characterise the performance of existing MCUs based on three key performance indicators(KPIs),namely,the wet-bulb temperature ratio(WTr),efficiency and *** strategies were then elected and implemented based on these *** implementation of this method in a South African gold mine attained a reduction in pumped water volumes,reduced operating costs through electricity cost savings and improvements in underground ventilation air temperatures.
