Droplet impact and breakup on meshes are relevant to a number of applications involving filters,textiles,and other spatially inhomogeneous media encountering gasdispersed *** study presents high-resolution simulation results of mm-size droplets striking wettability-patterned meshes with the goal of(a)replicating prior physical experiments,(b)identifying sensitivities to the initial conditions and wettability of the mesh wires,and(c)studying the fluid-field dynamics when droplets strike such *** insights from the present model may help to advance understanding of droplet atomization on meshes,which depends on a number of parameters that are nontrivial to control in an experimental *** analysis is carried out by benchmarking the numerical methods used in a commercial software package for orthogonal droplet impact on a flat smooth surface,followed by a convergence analysis,and finally,simulation of specific experiments and case studies involving wettability-patterned mesh *** show that the wettability contrast between the hydrophilic and hydrophobic domains on the mesh as well as the contact angle hysteresis on each side play a critical role in determining whether liquid pinchoff *** three-dimensional computational framework constructed in this work is a step toward predicting the postimpact behavior of droplets that strike woven meshes and other porous inhomogeneous media consisting of materials with different wetting properties.

Objective:To investigation the chemopreventive potential of Fumaria indica（***） extract（FIE） on N-nitrosodiethylamine and CCl4-induced hepatocarcinogenesis in wislar ***:The experimental animals were divided into six groups（n=6）.hepatocellular carcinoma was induced by single intraperitoneal injection of N-nitrosodiethylamine（NDEA） in normal saline at a dose of 200 mg/kg body weight followed by weekly subcutaneous injections of CCl4（3 mL/kg/week） for 6 weeks,as the promoter of carcinogenic *** administration of the carcinogen,200 and 400 mg/kg of FIE were administered orally once a day throughout the *** the end of 20 weeks,the body weight,liver weight and relative liver weight were *** percentage of nodule incidence and liver cancer markers such as aspartate transaminase（AST）,alanine transaminase（ALT）,alkaline phosphatase（ALP）,γ-glutamyl transferase（γ-GT）,total bilirubin level（TBL）,α-feto protein（AFP） and carcinoembryonic antigen were estimated along with histopathological investigation in experimental groups of rats. Results:Obtained results demonstrated that the cotreatment with FIE significantly prevented the decrease of the body weight and also increased in relative liver weight caused by NDEA. The treatment with FIE significantly reduced the nodule incidence and nodule multiplicity in the rats after NDEA *** levels of liver cancer markers such as AST,ALT,ALP,γ-glutamyl transferase,TBL,AFP and carcinoembryonic antigen were substantially increased by NDEA ***,FIE treatment significantly reduced the liver injury and restored the entire liver cancer *** observations of liver tissues too correlated with the biochemical ***:These finding powerfully supports that *** exert chemopreventive effect by suppressing the tumor burden and restoring the activities of hepatic cancer marker enzymes on NDEA and CCl4-induced hepatocarcinogenesis in wis

Coal and coal-shale both tend to undergo spontaneous combustion under favourable atmospheric conditions. The wits-Ehac index has been developed in South Africa since the late 1980's to test the spontaneous combustion liability of coal. however, in some cases, the wits-Ehac index fails to produce tangible results when testing coal-shales. To overcome this problem, a new apparatus has been developed to test carbonaceous materials such as coal and coal-shale under chemical reactions with oxygen and an index has been obtained. This index is called the wits-CT index. The equipment emulates the influence of oxygen adsorption on carbonaceous material for a period of 24 h without a heating *** wits-CT index uses the total carbon content of the sample and the temperature variations obtained from the samples during reaction with oxygen to predict the spontaneous combustion liability. Eighteen samples have been analyzed using both indices and the results are in-line. It was found that coals and coal-shales with higher values of the wits-CT index are more liable to spontaneous *** research on different coal-shales is underway in order to establish an extensive database for coal and coal-shales, together with known incidences of self-heating.

Spent coffee grounds as a renewable source of energy: An analysis of bulk powder flowability

The main use for spent coffee grounds (SCG) produced in the soluble coffee industry is thermal energy generation in the industry itself. The SCG are processed using operations that are strongly dependent on powder flow behavior. In this study, we evaluated two classical flowability in dices of non-consolidated SCG powders: the angle of repose (AoR), and the hausner ratio (hR). The influences of the mean particle diameter, particle size distribution (PSD), and water content on the AoR and hR values of SCG were analyzed for powders with a mean particle size range of 225-550 μm. For powders with a mean particle size close to 350 μm and for mixtures containing more than 40% fine particles, the hR (>1.35) and AoR (>45 °) values were characteristic of poor flowability. The AoR was sensitive to the powder PSD, and powders with similar mean particle sizes had higher AoR values when the PSD was larger. For powders w让h water contents up to 50%, the flowability indices were not greatly affected by the water content. A modified linear-mixture packing model was used to predict the packed bed void fractions for binary and ternary mixtures of the three base powders. The model was used to construct a ternary diagram to estimate the hR values of the mixtures. An equation was fitted to correlate hR and AoR. The proposed diagram and the equation provide insight into flow behavior and could be used for process design of industrial plants that handle SCG.

To test the possible influence of hydrocortisone on the inhibitory effect of interleukin-1 on the pancreatic beta-cell function, insulin release and insulin content of newborn rat islets incubated without or with interleukin-1 and/or hydroc-ortisone were measured. Interleukin-1 （500 ng/1） resulted in a decrease of insulin release during day 1～3, but a partial recovery from inhibition during days 4～7. The insulin content of the islets was not changed significantly. hydrocortisone had an inhibitory effect on insulin release (at 10-7m) or both insulin release and insulin content of islets (at 10-6m). Both 10-7and 10-6m hydrocortisone seem to prevent the initial decrease in insulin release exerted by interleukin-1 （500 ng/1） during day 1-3,but thereafter resulted in an even more marked decrease of insulin release correspon-ding to 51% (at 10-7m) or 25% (at 10-6m) of control islets, respectively, duringdays 4～7. The normal presentation of a patient with a drug induced methemoglobinemia is a low pulse oximetry (SpO2) reading, usually in the mid 80% range, while having a very high PaO2 on an arterial blood gas (ABG)1. we present a case where the initial ABG showed a very high PaO2 and a metabolic alkalosis while the SpO2 fluctuated (85%- 99%). Those findings combined with hemodynamic instability complicated the diagnosis and delayed optimal care.

Cold metal transfer(CmT) welding is a brand-new arc welding technique which shows adequate results for welding of thin sheets and dissimilar materials. Corrosion behavior of dissimilar aluminum joints should be determined in terms of predicting the effect of welding process on the possible failures in their constructions caused by corrosive agents. The present study investigates the effect of heat input on mechanical properties and corrosion rate of AA5754-AA7075 joints welded by CmT using ER5356 filler wire. Pore formation was observed not only in the weld metal but also in the partially melted zone of AA7075 base metal due to the vaporization of zinc. Increased heat input caused over aging and zinc vaporization in AA7075 base metal, and grain coarsening in AA5754 base metal consequently decreased the tensile strength. The average tensile strength of AA7075-AA5754 joints varies between 235 and 240 mPa. The ductile fracture occurred at the AA5754 base metal side in all samples. Pitting was observed as the dominant corrosion mechanism. Corrosion resistance tended to increase with increasing heat input. heat input values between 95 and 110 J/mm are recommended for the optimization of corrosion resistance and strength.
