Methionine sources and genotype affect embryonic intestinal development, antioxidants, tight junctions, and growth-related gene expression in chickens

Methionine(Met) is an essential and first limiting amino acid in the poultry diet that plays a significant role in chicken embryonic development and growth. the present study examined the effect of in ovo injection of DL-Met and L-Met sources and genotypes on chicken embryonic-intestinal development and health. Fertilized eggs of the two genotypes, TETRA-SL layer hybrid(TSL)—commercial layer hybrid and hungarian Partridge colored hen breed(hPC)—a native genotype, were randomly distributed into four treatments for each genotype. the treatment groups include the following: 1) control non-injected eggs(NoIn); 2) saline-injected(SaIn); 3) DL-Met injected(DLM); and 4) L-Met injected(LM). the in ovo injection was carried out on 17.5 d of embryonic development; after hatching, eight chicks per group were sacrificed, and the jejunum was extracted for analysis. the results showed that both DLM and LM groups had enhanced intestinal development as evidenced by increased villus width, villus height, and villus area(P the control. the DLM group had significantly reduced crypt depth, glutathione(GSh) content, glutathione S-transferase 3 alpha(GST3), occludin(OCLN) gene expression and increased villus height to crypt depth ratio in the TSL genotype than the LM group(P the hPC genotype has overexpressed insulin-like growth factor 1(IGF1) gene, tricellulin(MD2), occludin(OCLN),superoxide dismutase 1(SOD1), and GST3 genes than the TSL genotype(P these findings showed that in ovo injection of Met enhanced intestinal development, and function, with genotypes responding differently under normal conditions. Genotypes also influenced the expression of intestinal antioxidants, tight junction, and growth-related genes.

Retting has been employed to extract natural fibers from agricultural wastes as a biological and cost-effective approach for *** its global abundance,banana pseudo-stem is a promising agro-waste for lignocellulosic fiber *** this study,fibers were extracted from the pseudo-stems after being pre-treated under four conditions using seawater at room temperature for up to 35 d Bacterial isolation from the fresh seawater sample and screening for ligninolytic ability were *** load as well as laccase and manganese peroxidase enzyme activity profile assay during the retting duration were *** transform infrared(FT-IR)and X-day diffraction(XRD)analyses were also examined for both pre-treated and untreated extracted *** results shows that six out of the eight bacterial isolates had the ability to degrade *** treatments(Raw stem+Raw seawater)and(Autoclaved stem+Raw seawater)recorded the highest viable bacterial load of 9.24×102 and 4.46×102 CFU,respectively,on the 14th day of the retting ***,the highest laccase and manganese peroxidase enzymes activity was recorded for(Raw stem+Raw seawater)and(Autoclaved stem+Raw seawater)treatments in the second to the third *** FT-IR spectra of the pre-treated fibers revealed relative reductions in peaks attributed to polysaccharides and other amorphous substances for all retting *** XRD diffractogram revealed that the crystallinity index(CI)of pre-treated fibers increased in all seawater retting treatment ***,the CI for fibers pre-treated under enzymatic conditions were enhanced even after five *** analysis for selected bacterial isolates showed homology to sequences of Bacillus velezensis,Shewanella sp.L8–5,and Citrobacter amalonaticus and Bacillus subtilis j8 *** these findings,it was suggested that physical,biological,and chemical actions were collectively involved in the seawater retting process of banana ps

Data-Driven Fault Detection of Multiple Open-Circuit Faults for MMC Systems Based on Long Short-Term Memory Networks

this paper presents a long short-term memory(LSTM)-based fault detection method to detect the multiple open-circuit switch faults of modular multilevel converter(MMC)systems with full-bridge sub-modules(FB-sms).Eighteen sensor signals of grid voltages,grid currents and capacitance voltages of MMC for single and multi-switch faults are collected as sampling *** output signal characteristics of four types of single switch faults of FB-sm,as well as double switch faults in the same and different phases of MMC,are analyzed under the conditions of load variations and control command changes.A multi-layer LSTM network is devised to deeply extract the fault characteristics of MMC under different faults and operation conditions,and a Softmax layer detects the fault *** results have confirmed that the proposed LSTM-based method has better detection performance compared with three other methods:K-nearest neighbor(KNN),naive bayes(NB)and recurrent neural network(RNN).In addition,it is highly robust to model uncertainties and Gaussian *** validity of the proposed method is further demonstrated by experiment studies conducted on a hardware-in-the-loop(hIL)testing platform.

Neonatal Morbidity and Mortality at hospital Saint Camille de Ouagadougou (hOSCO): A Study from 2017 to 2020

Introduction: Neonatal pathology remains a real public health problem in developing countries. In Burkina Faso, this mortality has declined over the last ten years but remains below compared to the Sustainable Development Goals, which is 12 per 1000 living births at most by 2030. this study aims to identify specific causes of neonatal morbidity and mortality and will contribute to the implementation of preventive and curative measures aimed at reducing neonatal mortality at hOSCO. Method: this was a retrospective study using the records and database of newborns hospitalized from January 1srt, 2017 to December 31srt, 2020. Using logistic regression, the factors associated with mortality were determined. Results: During the study period, 3020 newborns were hospitalized. Most newborns (83.71%) were referred by a peripheral health facility. the average age at admission was 0.3 days ± 0.9 and the sex ratio was 1.2. Prematurity was the leading cause of hospitalization (61.13%) followed by neonatal infection (38.34%) and neonatal suffering (23.88%). the mortality rate was 40.6% with 82.71% cases of death in the early neonatal period. the main causes of death were low birth weight (47.39%), respiratory distress (18.76%), neonatal suffering (17.37%) and neonatal infection (13.87%). home delivery, gestational age 36 weeks, number of PNC 4, concept of resuscitation, Apgar at the 5th minute 7, birth weight 2000 g and >4000 g, respiratory distress, hypothermia, neurological disorders were factors associated with deaths. Conclusion: Neonatal mortality is influenced by both maternal and fetal factors and many of them are preventable.

the aim of this work is to model the drying kinetics of Safou pulp with or without endocarp using a phenomenological approach. Oven-drying kinetics at 70˚C, 90˚C and 105˚C were monitored using the curves given by the reduced mass as a function of time, which are modeled according to the Avrami/page, Fick and Peleg models using OringinPro 2018 software. the results showed that parameters k and n of the Avrami/Page model vary very little with fruit size and drying temperature (0.0018 ± 0.0002 k n k (Avrami model/page) were virtually identical, while b (Fick model) and n (Avrami model/page) were virtually identical for the same sample. For the Peleg model, the parameter a, varies from 0.0018 ± 0.0002 to 0.03328 ± 0.0079, with a ratio of 18.6 for all experimental conditions studied. however, with 0.977 R2 χ2 have a good fit of the model to the experimental data. the same applies to parameter b, which ranges from 0.82 ± 0.05 to 1.21 ± 0.02. thus, drying modeling by these three models can be used to describe and predict the progress of oven-drying of safou pulp.

Introduction: human papillomavirus (hPV) infection is the most widespread sexually transmitted infection in the world. Today, there is growing evidence that hPV can be transmitted early in life, and one potential route is mother-to-child transmission. Data on this route of hPV transmission are scarce in Africa and particularly in Burkina Faso, where no data on the subject are yet available. the aim of our study was to estimate the rate of mother-to-child transmission of hPV infection and to identify circulating genotypes. Methodology: Cervico-uterine samples were collected from 100 full-term pregnant women and, buccal samples were obtained from their newborns at hopital Saint Camille de Ouagadougou (hOSCO) by the specialist physician. hPV DNA amplification and genotyping were performed by PCR followed by hybridization using the hPV Direct Flow Chips kit, detecting 36 genotypes including 18 high-risk and 18 low-risk. Results: the prevalence of hPV in newborns was 8% (8/100). Six (6) hPV-positive neonates had hPV-positive mothers, while 2 hPV-positive neonates had hPV-negative mothers. the vertical transmission rate was 26.09% (6/23). Mother-newborn genotypes were concordant. however, the genotype profile of the newborns was more restricted than that of the mothers. Conclusion: hPV DNA was found in 8% of newborns in our study. the genotype profile of the mother-newborn pair was concordant. Asymptomatic hPV infection in a pregnant woman could constitute a risk factor for vertical transmission.
