rehabilitation of vulnerable groups in emergencies and disasters： A systematic review

BACKGrOUND: Natural and man-made disasters, especially those occurring in large scales not only result in human mortality, but also cause physical, psychological, and social disabilities. Providing effective rehabilitation services in time can decrease the frequency of such disabilities. The aim of the current study was to perform a systematic review related to rehabilitation of vulnerable groups in emergencies and ***: The systematic review was conducted according to the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses(PrISMA) guidelines. The key words "recovery", "rehabilitation", "reconstruction", "transformation", "transition", "emergency", "disaster", "crisis", "hazard", "catastrophe", "tragedy", "mass casualty incident", "women", "female", "children", "pediatric", "disable", "handicap", "elder", "old" and "vulnerable" were used in combination with Boolean operators Or and AND. ISI Web of Science, PubM ed, Scopus, Science Direct, Ovid, ProQ uest, Wiley, Google Scholar were ***: In this study a total of 11 928 articles were considered and 25 articles were selected for f inal review of rehabilitation of vulnerable groups based on the objective of this study. Twenty-f ive studies including six qualitative, sixteen cross-sectional and three randomized controlled trials were reviewed for rehabilitation of vulnerable groups in emergencies and disasters. Out of the selected papers, 23 were studied based on rehabilitation after natural disasters and the remaining were man-made disasters. Most types of rehabilitation were physical, social, psychological and ***: The review of the papers showed different programs of physical, physiological, economic and social rehabilitations for vulnerable groups after emergencies and disasters. It may help health field managers better implement standard rehabilitation activities for vulnerable groups.

Application of the microtremor measurements to a site effect study

Earthquake has left much life and property damages. The occurrence of such events necessitates the execution of plans for combating the earthquakes. One of the most important methods for combating earthquakes includes assessing dynamic characteristics of soil and site effect. One of the methods by which one can state dynamic characteristics of the soil of an area is the measurement of microtremors. Microtremors are small-scale vibrations that occur in the ground and have an amplitude range of about 0.1-1 microns. Microtremor measurement is fast, applica- ble, cost-effective. Microtremor measurements were taken at 15 stations in the Babol, north of Iran. regarding h/V spectral ratio method, peak frequency and amplifica- tion factor were calculated for all microtremor stations. According to the analysis, the peak frequency varies from 0.67 to 8.10 hz within the study area. Also, the authors investigated the validity of the results by comparing them with SESAME guidelines and geotechnical conditions of study area. The microtremor analysis results are consistent with SESAME guidelines and geotechnical condition of study area. The results show that the microtremor obser- vations are acceptable methods for assessing dynamic characteristics of soil and site effect in the Babol City.

Effects of initial wettability and different surfactant-silica nanoparticles flooding scenarios on oil-recovery from carbonate rocks

Initial wettability of rock surfaces plays a crucial role in displacement efficiency during core flooding *** this study,linear alkylbenzene sulfonic acid(LABSA)and silica nanoparticles(NPs)were utilized as enhanced oil recovery(EOr)agents to improve oil recovery from carbonate rock *** to the core flooding experiments,effects of the presence of LABSA and SiO_(2)NPs on oil-water interfacial tension(IFT),wettability alteration,and surfactant adsorption on the rock surfaces were *** results of IFT/contact angle measurements showed that by adding 0.03 wt%LABSA,the IFT,and contact angle reduced from the initial values of 36.9 mN/m and 115.6°±0.2°to 8.3 mN/m and 100.3°±0.4°,***,incorporating SiO_(2)NPs(0.1 wt%)into the system causes a further decrease in IFT value(dropped to 2.2 mN/m),along with a substantial reduction in contact angle(final contact angle after 6 h soaking into the solution was measured as 64.8°±0.3°).In addition,surfactant loss due to the adsorption on the rock surfaces decreased up to 35%in the presence of SiO_(2)NPs(0.1 wt%).Moreover,various core flooding scenarios in carbonate plugs with different initial wettability conditions were conducted,and the performance of the EOr agents in enhancing oil recovery from oilwet and water-wet core samples in the secondary and tertiary mode of flooding was *** outcomes revealed that the injection of a combination of chemicals,containing LABSA(0.03 wt%)and SiO_(2)(0.1 wt%)in the secondary mode leads to the highest ultimate oil recovery from sister carbonate core samples.

The Cobourg limestone is a very low porosity rock consisting of lighter nodular regions that are predominantly calcite and darker regions consisting of calcite,quartz,dolomite,and an appreciable clay *** paper presents the application of the theory of multi-phasic composites to estimate the possible maximum effective thermal conductivity of the heterogeneous *** thermal conductivity estimates are expected to be representative of the intact rock,without fractures or fissures that can influence the heat conduction *** estimates are therefore indicative of the thermal properties of the rock in undisturbed regions unaffected by the influences of stress relief and excavation damage during construction of deep ground repositories for the disposal of heat-emitting nuclear waste.

Protein Based Localized Surface Plasmon resonance Gas Sensing

We apply the localized surface plasrnon resonance （LSPr） of gold nanoparticles （GNPs） covalently coupled with cytochrorne c （cyt c） to create a nanobiosensor for detecting hydrogen sulfide （h2S） in the range of 15 lOOppb. Monolayer formation of GNPs on glass surface functionalized with 3-aminopropyltrirnethoxysilane （APTMS） is performed for fabricating a chip-based format of the optical transducer. By chemical introduction of short-chain thiol derivatives on cyt c protein shell via its lysine residues, a very fast self-assembled rnonolayer （SAM） of cyt c is formed on the GNPs. Significant shifts in the LSPr peak （△λLSPr） are observed by reacting h2S with cyt c. results show a linear relationship between △λLSPr and h2S concentration. Furthermore, shifts in the LSPr peak are reversible and the peak positions return to their pre-exposure values once the h2S is removed. The experirnental results strongly indicate that the protein based LSPr chip can be successfully used as a simple, fast, sensitive and quantitative sensor for h2S detection.

Preparation and thermal treatment of Pd/Ag composite membrane on a porousα-alumina tube by sequential electroless plating technique for h_2 separation

Pd/Ag/α-Al2O3 composite membranes were prepared by sequential electroless plating technique. The prepared membranes were characterized by X-ray diffraction （XrD）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy techniques （ICP-AES）. Effects of annealing time, Ag content, and air treatment on the hydrogen permeation flux and morphology of the alloys were investigated. The results of the investigation showed that the prepared type of tube had a good potential as substrate for membrane preparation. In addition, a uniform defect-free alloy was prepared by annealing at 550 ℃ in h2 atmosphere. The permeation results showed an increase in h2 permeation flux by increasing the Ag content and the annealing time. In addition, the air treatment of the prepared membranes at 400 ℃ for 1 h changed the morphology of the alloy and substantially enhanced the hydrogen flux.

Amino acids and mammary gland development:nutritional implications for milk production and neonatal growth

Milk is synthesized by mammary epithelial cells of lactating mammals. The synthetic capacity of the mammary gland depends largely on the number and efficiency of functional mammary epithelial cells. Structural development of the mammary gland occurs during fetal growth, prepubertal and post-pubertal periods, pregnancy, and lactation under the control of various hormones （particularly estrogen, growth hormone, insulin-like growth factor-I, progesterone, placental lactogen, and prolactin） in a species- and stage-dependent manner. Milk is essential for the growth, development, and health of neonates. Amino acids （AA）, present in both free and peptide-bound forms, are the most abundant organic nutrients in the milk of farm animals. Uptake of AA from the arterial blood of the lactating dam is the ultimate source of proteins （primarily 13-casein and a-lactalbumin） and bioactive nitrogenous metabolites in milk. results of recent studies indicate extensive catabolism of branched-chain AA （leucine, isoleucine and valine） and arginine to synthesize glutamate, glutamine, alanine, aspartate, asparagine, proline, and polyamines. The formation of polypeptides from AA is regulated not only by hormones （e.g., prolactin, insulin and glucocorticoids） and the rate of blood flow across the lactating mammary gland, but also by concentrations of AA, lipids, glucose, vitamins and minerals in the maternal plasma, as well as the activation of the mechanistic （mammalian） target rapamycin signaling by certain AA （e.g., arginine, branched-chain AA, and glutamine）. Knowledge of AA utilization （including metabolism） by mammary epithelial cells will enhance our fundamental understanding of lactation biology and has important implications for improving the efficiency of livestock production worldwide.
