The activities of mid-latitude planetary waves(PWs)in the troposphere and lower stratosphere(TLS)are presented by using the radiosonde data from 2000 to 2004 over four American stations(Miramar Nas,32.9°N,117.2°W;Santa Teresa,31.9°N,106.7°W;Fort Worth,32.8°N,97.3°W;and Birmingham,33.1°N,86.7°W)and one Chinese station(Wuhan,30.5°N,114.4°E).Statistically,strong PWs mainly appear around subtropical jet stream in the troposphere and lower *** the troposphere,the activities of the mid-latitude PWs are strong around the center of the subtropical jet stream in winter and become small near tropopause,which indicates that the subtropical jet stream may strengthen the propagation of PWs or even be one of the PW excitation *** the three disturbance components of temperature,zonal and meridional winds,PWs at Wuhan are stronger in the temperature component but weaker in the zonal wind component than at the other four American *** in the meridional wind component,the strengths of PW spectral amplitudes at the four American stations decrease from west to east,and their amplitudes are all larger than that of ***,the PWs are much weaker in the stratosphere and only the lower frequency parts *** amplitudes of the PWs in the stratosphere increase with height and are strong in winter with the zonal wind component being the *** the refractive index,we found that whether the PWs could propagate upward to the stratosphere depends on the thickness of the tropopause reflection *** the case study of the2000/2001 winter,it is observed that the quasi 16-day wave in the troposphere is a quasi standing wave in the vertical direction and propagates upward slowly with vertical wavelength greater than 24 km in the meridional *** propagates eastward with the zonal numbers between 5 and 8,and the quasi16-day wave at Wuhan is probably the same quasi 16-day wave at the three American stations(MiramarNas,Santa Teresa and Fort Wo

Shell-model representations of the microscopic version of the Bohr-Mottelson collective model

The structure of the irreducible collective spaces of the group Sp(12,R),which many-particle nuclear states are classified according to the chain Sp(12,R)⊃U(6)⊃SO(6)⊃SU_(pn)(3)⊗SO(2)⊃SO(3)of the proton-neutron symplectic model(PNSM),is considered in *** chain of the PNSM was recently shown to correspond to a microscopic shell-model version of the Bohr-Mottelson collective *** construction of the relevant shell-model representations of the Sp(12,R)group along this chain is considered for three nuclei with varying collective properties and from different mass *** is shown that the SU_(pn)(3)basis states of the Sp(12,R)representations belonging to the SO(6)irreps with seniorityυ≥υ0,withυ0 denoting the maximal seniority SO(6)irrep contained in the Sp(12,R)bandhead,are always Pauli allowed,but organized in a different way into different SO(6)*** is in contrast to the case of filling the levels of the standard three-dimensional harmonic oscillator and using the plethysm *** the SU_(pn)(3)multiplets withinυhe present work are important for the practical application of the microscopic version of the Bohr-Mottelson collective model.

The mechanical response of a single crystal titanium sample against(0001)α surface impact was investigated using molecular dynamics ***,non-uniform plastic deformation was observed in the *** high strain rates,amorphization occurred near the edge of the contact region where severe shear strain induced a large number of stacking faults(SFs)and *** contrast,the central part of the contact region underwent less deformation with significantly fewer ***,instead of amorphization by consuming SFs and dislocations,there was a gradual increase in the density of dislocations and SFs during the process of *** local amorphous regions eventually grew into shear bands.

Estimating Critical Clearing Time of grid Faults Using DA of State-Reduction Model of Power Systems

This paper proposes a critical clearing time (CCT) estimation method by the domain of attraction (DA) of a state-reduction model of power systems using sum of squares (SOS) programming. By exploiting the property of the Jacobian matrix and the structure of the boundary of the DA, it is found the DA of the state-reduction model and that of the full model of a power system are topological isomorphism. There are one-to-one correspondence relationships between the number of equilibrium points, the type of equilibrium points, and solutions of the two system models. Based on these findings, an expanding interior algorithm is proposed with SOS programming to estimate the DA of the state-reduction model. State trajectories of the full model can be transformed to those of the state-reduction model by orthogonal or equiradius projection. In this way, CCT of a grid fault is estimated with the DA of the state-reduction model. The calculational burden of SOS programming in the DA estimation using the state-reduction model is rather small compared with using the full model. Simulation results show the proposed expanding interior algorithm is able to provide a tight estimation of DA of power systems with higher accuracy and lower time costs.

Connections Between Induction generator Effect and Open-loop Modal Proximity to Cause Sub-synchronous Oscillations in Series-compensated Power System

The induction generator effect(IgE)and the openloop modal proximity(OLMP)are two different reasons why subsynchronous oscillations(SSOs)in a series-compensated power system(SCPS)may *** IgE attributes the growing SSOs to negative resistance,while the OLMP explains the SSO mechanism from the standpoint of modal *** this paper,we investigate the connections between the IgE and the OLMP through equivalent RLC circuit and open-loop modal *** investigation is conducted for two types of seriescompensated power systems where either a synchronous generator or a DFIg is connected at the sending *** investigation reveals the conditions,in which the IgE and the OLMP may jointly cause the growing SSOs,i.e.,both the IgE and the OLMP can explain why the growing SSOs ***,the investigation indicates that the IgE and the OLMP may be totally irrelevant and lead to growing SSOs *** implies that it is possible that in a SCPS,the growing SSOs are only due to the IgE,and the OLMP is non-existent,and vice ***,when the growing SSOs occurs in a SCPS,examination based on both the IgE and the OLMP should be carefully conducted in order to find if the oscillatory instability is due to the IgE,or the OLMP,or both of them.

Expanding Annular Domain Algorithm to Estimate Domains of Attraction for Power System Stability Analysis

This paper presents an Expanding Annular Domain(EAD)algorithm combined with Sum of Squares(SOS)programming to estimate and maximize the domain of attraction(DA)of power *** proposed algorithm can systematically construct polynomial Lyapunov functions for power systems with transfer conductance and reliably determine a less conservative approximated DA,which are quite difficult to achieve with traditional *** linear SOS programming,we begin from an initial estimated DA,then enlarge it by iteratively determining a series of so-called annular domains of attraction,each of which is characterized by level sets of two successively obtained Lyapunov ***,the EAD algorithm is theoretically analyzed in detail and its validity and convergence are shown under certain *** the end,our method is tested on two classical power system cases and is demonstrated to be superior to existing methods in terms of computational speed and conservativeness of results.
