The hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge(hZMB)involved the installation of 120 mega-cylinders with a diameter of 22 m,weights up to 513 t,and penetration depths up to 33 m using an eight-vibratory hammer *** to the lack of engineering experience on the drivability of large-diameter cylinders under multiple vibratory hammers,predicting the penetration rate and time of steel cylinders is an open challenge that has a considerable impact on the construction control of the *** this study,the vibratory penetration of large-diameter steel cylinders in the hZMB is investigated based on geological surveys,field monitoring,and drivability *** vibratory penetration rate,installation accuracy,and dynamic responses of the steel cylinders at both the eastern and western artificial islands are *** dynamic soil resistance has a great influence on the cylinder ***,the current design methods for estimating the vibratory driving soil resistance are proven inaccurate without considering the scale ***,a modified method with a normalized effective area ratio A_(r,eff)is proposed in this study to calculate the vibratory soil resistance for open-ended thin-wall cylinders under unplugged *** the scale effects on the vibratory driving soil resistance,the proposed method leads to closer results to the measured data,providing a reference for future engineering practice.

Catalyst–support interaction plays a crucial role in improving the catalytic activity of oxygen evolution reaction(OER).here we modulate the catalyst–support interaction in polyaniline-supported Ni_(3)fe oxide(Ni_(3)fe oxide/PANI)with a robust hetero-interface,which significantly improves oxygen evolution activities with an overpotential of 270 mV at 10 mA cm^(-2)and specific activity of 2.08 mA cm_(ECSA)^(-2)at overpotential of 300 mV,3.84-fold that of Ni_(3)fe *** is revealed that the catalyst–support interaction between Ni_(3)fe oxide and PANI support enhances the Ni–O covalency via the interfacial Ni–N bond,thus promoting the charge and mass transfer on Ni_(3)fe *** the excellent activity and stability,rechargeable Zn-air batteries with optimum Ni_(3)fe oxide/PANI are assembled,delivering a low charge voltage of 1.95 V to cycle for 400 h at 10 mA cm^(-2).The regulation of the effect of catalyst–support interaction on catalytic activity provides new possibilities for the future design of highly efficient OER catalysts.

Rapid Growth of TiNi intermetallic compound within undercooled Ti_(50)Ni_(50)alloy under electrostatic levitation condition

The undercooling dependence of the solidification mechanism was systematically explored by the electrostatic levitation(ESL)*** the experiments,the maximum undercooling reached up to 406 K(0.26 T_L)and the growth velocity of the primary TiNi phase was in-situ determined at various *** the initial increase of alloy undercooling,the value of growth velocity sluggishly rose followed by a power *** this case,the primary TiNi phase preferentially developed as the equiaxed dendrite,then the remnant liquid participated as Ti_(2)Ni andα-Ti phases on the grain *** the undercooling exceeded the critical value of 350 K,the growth velocity of the primary phase displayed a sharply increase ***,the TEM results demonstrated that the precipitation of the intermetallic Ti_(2)Ni compound was gradually restrained during the rapid solidification and the R-phase existing in the TiNi matrix at large undercooling implied that the martensitic transformation was incomplete.

Solutions for radial flow of a Bingham fluid are analyzed in this *** aims to eliminate confusions in the literature concerning the plug flow region in different solutions for analysis and design of grouting in rock *** analyses based on the force balance equation reveal that the plug flow region in Bingham radial flow is independent of the fracture radius,and is not a growth function adapted from the solution of one-dimensional(1D)slit flow according to‘similarity’.Based on the shear stress distribution,we analytically proposed that a non-uniform plug flow region cannot *** Bingham fluid(grout)penetration and flowrate evolution as functions of grouting time are given using the correct expression for the plug flow *** radius-independent plug flow region and the presented flowrate evolution equation are also verified *** radial flow,the relative penetration length is equal to the relative width of plug flow region,which is the same as that for 1D channel *** in analytical solutions for grout penetration and flowrate evolution were also *** clarification of the plug flow region and evaluation of discrepancies in analytical solutions presented in this work could simplify modeling and design of grouting in rock engineering applications.

formulation and procedure for in situ stress back-analysis from borehole strain changes measured during nearby underground excavation

Estimation of in situ stresses based on back-analysis of measured stress changes and displacements has become an alternative to the direct stress measurement *** order to help users conduct own measurement and analysis,this paper presents in detail a field stress back-analysis approach directly from borehole strain changes measured during nearby underground *** formulations in major steps and the procedure for the entire analysis process are provided to allow users to *** instrument for borehole strain change measurement can be the CSIR or CSIRO stress cells and other borehole strain cells that can measure strains on borehole *** changes corresponding to the stress changes at a borehole location are calculated in borehole *** stress changes due to nearby excavation can be calculated by an analytical model for a single circular opening and simulated by a numerical model for non-circular and multiple *** models are based on isotropic,homogeneous and linear elastic *** analysis of borehole strain changes is accomplished by multiple linear regression based on error minimization and an integrated process provides the best-fit solution directly to the in situ stresses.A statistical technique is adopted for screening outliers in the measurement data,checking measurement compatibility and evaluating the reliability of analysis *** application example is included to demonstrate the practical application and the analysis procedure.

Density determination and simulation of Inconel 718 alloy at normal and metastable liquid states

The density of liquid Incone1718 alloy was experimentally measured by electrostatic levitation technique, where the maximum undercooling of 100 K was realized for the commercial sample. The measured density of liquid lnconel 718 alloy is 7.39 g cm^-3 at the liquidus temperature of 1663 K which was confirmed by DSC experiment, with the linear temperature coefficient of -6.89 × 10^-4 gcm^-3 K^-1. Correspondingly, four ternary Ni-Cr-fe compositions were designed to simulate the density of liquid lnconel 718 alloy with 16000 atoms, from which the liquid structure is revealed by pair distribution function, The predicted result shows a remarkable enhancement with the decrease of temperature at the first neighbor distance.

Snap-through of an elastica under bilateral displacement control at a material point

Snap-through phenomenon widely occurs for elastic systems,where the systems lose stability at critical *** snapthrough of an elastica under bilateral displacement control at a material point is studied,by regarding the whole elastica as two components,i.e.,pinned-clamped ***,stiffness-curvature curves of two pinned-clamped elasticas are firstly efficiently located based on the second-order mode,which are used to determine the shapes of two *** transformations are used to assemble two components together to form the whole elastica,which reveals four kinds of *** advantage of this way compared with other methods such as the shooting method is that multiple coexisting solutions can be located accurately.O n the load-deflection curves,four branches correspond to four kinds of shapes and first two branches are symmetrical to the last two branches relative to the original *** the bilateral displacement control,the critical points can only appear at saddle-node bifurcations,which is different to that for the unilateral displacement ***,one critical point is found on the first branch and two critical points are found on the secondary *** addition,the snap-through among different branches can be well explained with these critical points.

＜正＞A geometrically robust watermarking scheme was proposed based on image local content,which could resist both image cropping and RST *** first extracts the robust feature points,and then partitions the image into multi circular *** area is transformed into PM sub-images,then 2-D DfT is performed and the magnitudes are used as the watermark-embedding *** the watermark is embedded by modifying the DfT magnitudes using energy *** with fourier-Mellin transform-based watermarking,its computational cost is reduced as only one 2-D DfT is performed. Moreover,the method can overcome the interpolation problem by using PM in the spatial domain because images have a similar scale between neighboring pixels.

Recently,hoang et al.(2021)discussed our paper zou et al.(2020).In our paper,we made a statement that Dai and Bird(1981)’s solution for two-dimensional(2 D)radial Bingham fluid flow between parallel plates violates mass *** et *** out that Dai and Bird(1981)’s solution does not violate the mass balance because Dai and Bird(1981)’s solution and our analysis are based on different assumptions,*** consideration of the vertical velocity component in the continuity equation or not,which leads to two different approximation *** this sense,the mass balance of Dai and Bird(1981)’s solution should not be checked using our solution as a *** this reply,we add remarks on the two approximation models and their implication for rock grouting *** discussion by hoang et *** this reply are helpful to thoroughly eliminate the existing confusion regarding the two solutions in the rock grouting research community.

Effects of diurnal adjustment on biases and trends derived from inter-sensor calibrated AMSU-A data

Measurements of brightness temperatures from Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit-A （AMSU-A） temperature sounding instruments onboard NOAA Polar- orbiting Operational Environmental Satellites （POES） have been extensively used for studying atmospheric temperature trends over the past several decades. Inter- sensor biases, orbital drifts and diurnal variations of atmospheric and surface temperatures must be considered before using a merged long-term time series of AMSU-A measurements from NOAA- 15, - 18, - 19 and MetOp-A. We study the impacts of the orbital drift and orbital differences of local equator crossing times （LECTs） on temperature trends derivable from AMSU-A using near-nadir observa- tions from NOAA-15, NOAA-18, NOAA-19, and MetOp-A during 1998 - 2014 over the Amazon rainforest. The double difference method is firstly applied to estimation of inter-sensor biases between any two satellites during their overlapping time period. The inter-calibrated observations are then used to generate a monthly mean diurnal cycle of brightness temperature for each AMSU-A channel. A diurnal correction is finally applied each channel to obtain AMSU-A data valid at the same local time. Impacts of the inter-sensor bias correction and diurnal correction on the AMSU-A derived long-term atmospheric temperature trends are separately quantified and compared with those derived from original data. It is shown that the orbital drift and differences of LECT among different POESs induce a large uncertainty in AMSU-A derived long-term warming/cooling trends. After applying an inter-sensor bias correction and a diurnal correction, the warming trends at different local times, which are approximately the same, are smaller by half than the trends derived without applying these corrections.
