Nutrient recovery from source-separated human urine has attracted interest as it is rich in nitrogen and phosphorus that can be utilized as ***,urine also contains pharmaceuticals,steroid hormones,*** their removal is crucial as they have detrimental effects on the environment and human *** current study focuses on investigating the degradation of pharmaceuticals using a double-chamber microbial fuel cell(MFC).Urine was spiked with four pharmaceuticals(trimethoprim,lamivudine,levofloxacin,and estrone)at a concentration of 2 mg/*** MFC was operated for 7 months in batch mode with this spiked urine as *** degradation efficiency of the MFC was studied,for which a selective liquid chromatography-tandem mass-spectrometric method was developed for the quantitation of compounds used in the spiking experiments and was validated with a lower limit of quantification of 0.39 ng/*** maximum removal rate achieved was 96%±2%.The degradation mechanism involved processes like sorption and anoxic *** voltage curve obtained showed that the presence of pharmaceuticals had an initial negative impact on power generation along with increased organic content;however,after the reactor acclimatization,increased power output was achieved with maximum organics removal at 30 h of retention *** work opens a new perspective for the anoxic biodegradation of pharmaceuticals and can be useful in future bioremediation studies.

All rice plant developmental stages are severely affected by soil salinity. Salinity-induced ionic and osmotic stresses affect stomata closure and gaseous exchange, and reduce transpiration and the rate of carbon assimilation, and hence decrease plant yield. Understanding the response of rice plants toward salinity stress at the genetic level and developing salt-tolerant varieties are the vital mandates for its effective management. This review described the present status of salt-tolerance achieved in rice by various mechanisms including the ion homeostasis(Na^+/h^+, OsNhX antiporters), compatible organic solutes(glycine betaine and proline), antioxidative genes(OsECS, OsVTE1, OsAPX and OsMSRA4.1), salt responsive regulatory elements(transcription factors, cis-acting elements and miRNAs) and genes ecoding protein kinases(MAPKs, SAPKs and STRKs). Further, the future perspective of developing salt-tolerant varieties lies in exploring halotolerant gene homologs from rice varieties, especially the landraces. Genetic diversity among rice landraces can serve as a valuable resource for future studies toward variety improvement through breeding and genome editing. Further, identification, multiplication, preservation and utilization of biodiversity among landraces are the urgent buffers to be saved as a heritage for future generations to come.

BVRI CCD photometry of the poorly studied open cluster NGC 6724 has been carried out down to a limiting magnitude of V-20 mag. The stars of the cluster have been observed using the Newtonian focus （f/4.84） of the 74-inch telescope at Kottamia Astronomical Observatory in Egypt. Also, the 2MASS - JhK system is used to confirm the results we obtained. The main photometric parameters have been estimated for the present object; the diameter is found to be 6 arcmin, the distance is 15304-60pc from the Sun and the age is 900＋50Myr. The optical reddening E（B - V） = 0.65 mag, while the infrared reddening is E（J - h） = 0.20 mag. The slope of the mass function distribution and the relaxation time estimations indicate that cluster NGC 6724 is dynamically relaxed.

Dear Editor, In today＇s post-genomic era where direct targets of manytranscription factors have been identified, it is becomingincreasingly evident that transcriptional networks are verycomplex. heterodimerization of transcription factors is oneof the several methods by which these complex transcrip-tional networks are formed. By heterodimerization, DNA-binding specificity and affinity, transactivation properties,and ultimately cell physiology might be altered （Naar et al.,2001）. The formation of heterodimers has the potential torecognize additional binding sites and increase the rangeof DNA-binding specificity （Foster et al., 1994）. Further, het-erodimerization also allows the production of new proteinconfigurations. For example, the protein STF1 from soybeancan dimerize with GBF proteins and this dimerization bringstogether the acidic region from STF1 and the proline-richregion of the GBF proteins into one binding element （Cheonget al., 1998）. These results highlight the importance and/orconsequences of heterodimerization of transcription factorsat particular locus. however, to understand the complex tran-scriptional networks, it is important to investigate that howheterodimerization affects the whole-genome-wide bind-ing and transcriptional properties of a transcription *** in this study, we have investigated genome-wide DNAbinding of bZIP transcription factor GBF1, and analyzed theimportance of its heterodimerization with hY5 and hYh forits genome-wide binding. We have found that GBF1 bindingsites are enriched within the 1-kb regions upstream to thetranscription start sites of target genes. Moreover, the bind-ings of GBF1 to most of its targets are largely dependent onhY5, while hYh only affects the binding of GBF1 to somespecific sites.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is an important contributor to cancer-specific mortality worldwide. Targeted agents that inhibit key subtype-specific signaling pathways have improved survival times and have recently become part of the standard of care for this disease. Accurately diagnosing and classifying RCC on the basis of tumor histology is thus critical. RCC has been traditionally divided into clear-cell and non-clearcell categories, with papillary RCC forming the most common subtype of non-clear-cell RCC. Renal neoplasms with overlapping histologies, such as tumors with mixed clear-cell and papillary features and hybrid renal oncocytic tumors, are increasingly seen in contemporary practice and present a diagnostic challenge with important therapeutic implications. In this review, we discuss the histologic, immunohistochemical, cytogenetic, and clinicopathologic aspects of these differential diagnoses and illustrate how the classification of RCC has evolved to integrate both the tumor's microscopic appearance and its molecular fingerprint.

Water depth,salinity,current,and suspended sediment concentration(SSC) were measured along with the grain size distribution of bed sediment along an estuarine longitudinal *** floc size increased with increase in the percentage of clay and silt,while decreased with increase in the percentage of sand content of bed *** turbulent shear,G,had a direct effect on floc size with its value increasing with increase in G up to a G value of 15 s,while an inverse relation existed between floc size and G at higher G(C> 15 s).Further,higher turbulence enabled sand to get resuspended and cause additional shear leading to the break-up of *** attempt was made to modify G to account for the combined effect of water turbulence(C) and shear imparted by sand(C) and the impact of the modification of G on the predictability of floc size was evaluated.A new model was developed which explains floc size in terms of sediment concentration(C),salinity gradient(S),and G for different scenarios based on the value of *** analysis was done for observed floc size(FS) and predicted floc size using four approaches:(Ⅰ) FS β C~χ;(Ⅱ) FS α C~χS;(Ⅲ) FS α C~χSG~z for G 15 s; and(Ⅳ) FS α C~χSGfor G> 15 sand G=G+G,where x,y,and z are determined by *** was observed that the predictability of the floc size improved when the turbulence was modified to account for shear imparted by sand so that the coefficient of determination was increased from 0.78 for model Ⅲ to 0.89 for model Ⅳ.Further,the settling velocity was expressed as a function of suspended sediment concentration,turbulent shear,and salinity *** predictability of settling velocity was improved(R~2 increased from 0.77 to 0.86) when the additional turbulence created by sand was incorporated in the non-dimensional empirical *** study highlights the influence of sand in causing the break-up of flocs and suggests that for turbulence shear values high enough to resuspend
