Constructing a taxonomy to support multi-document summarization of dissertation abstracts

Th.s paper reports part of a study to develop a meth.d for automatic multi-document summarization. Th. current focus is on dissertation abstracts in th. field of sociology. Th. summarization meth.d uses macro-level and micro-level discourse structure to identify important information th.t can be extracted from dissertation abstracts, and th.n uses a variable-based framework to integrate and organize extracted information across dissertation abstracts. Th.s framework focuses more on research.concepts and th.ir research.relationsh.ps found in sociology dissertation abstracts and h.s a h.erarch.cal structure. A taxonomy is constructed to support th. summarization process in two ways：（1） h.lping to identify important concepts and relations expressed in th. text, and （2） providing a structure for linking similar concepts in different abstracts. Th.s paper describes th. variable-based framework and th. summarization process, and th.n reports th. construction of th. taxonomy for supporting th. summarization process. An example is provided to sh.w h.w to use th. constructed taxonomy to identify important concepts and integrate th. concepts extracted from different abstracts.

Incremental algorith. is one of th. most popular procedures for constructing Delaunay triangulations （DTs）. h.wever, th. point insertion sequence h.s a great impact on th. amount of work needed for th. construction of DTs. It affects th. time for both.point location and structure update, and h.nce th. overall computational time of th. triangulation algorith.. In th.s paper, a simple deterministic insertion sequence is proposed based on th. breadth.first-search.on a Kd-tree with.some minor modifications for better performance. Using parent nodes as search.h.nts, th. proposed insertion sequence proves to be faster and more stable th.n th. h.lbert curve order and biased randomized insertion order （BRIO）, especially for non-uniform point distributions over a wide range of bench.ark examples.

Th. dissolution beh.vior of rI ph.se h.s been investigated in a cast Ni-based superalloy. Th. results sh.wed th.t th. platelets and blocks of η ph.se were formed with.n th. interdendritic regions of th. microstructure. Applying standard solution annealing at 1150-1160℃ for a period of 4 h.did not result in th. complete dissolution of η ph.se. For th. complete dissolution of η ph.se with.ut residual incipient melting, a 2-step solution annealing h.s been recommended. After dissolution at h.gh.tem- peratures, th. TI ph.se transforms to two MC-type carbides： one is enrich.d in Ti, Nb, and Ta, and th. oth.r is of （Zr,Ti）C type.

Th. h.dration of quick lime and th. sulfation of h.drated lime were carried out for verification of relationsh.p between th. reactivity of quick lime and th. properties of h.drated lime as a sorbent. Th. effect of reactivity of quick lime was investigated with.th. ch.nge of calcination temperature and time. Results obtained sh.wed th.t th. temperature rise during th. h.dration of quick limes varied from 31 to 69℃ with.th. variation of calcination temperature and time. Th. specific surface area and th. sulfation ability of h.drated lime prepared by h.dration of quick lime sh.wed a proportional relationsh.p with.th. reactivity of quick lime. Th. h.drated lime wh.ch.was prepared by h.dration of quick lime calcined at 1100℃ h.d th. h.gh.st reactivity and sh.wed 41.53 m^2/g of th. specific surface area, 0.16 cm^3/g of th. pore volume and 87% of th. removal efficiency for sO2 removal,

It is essential to predict th. scour depth.around bridge piers for h.draulic engineers involved in th. economical design of bridge pier foundation. Conventional investigations h.ve long been of th. opinion th.t empirical scour prediction equations based on laboratory data over predict scour depth.. In th.s article, th. Back-Propagation Neural Network （BPN） was applied to predict th. scour depth.in order to overcome th. problem of exclusive and th. nonlinear relationsh.ps. Th. observations obtained from th.rteen states in UsA was verified by th. present model. From th. comparison with.conventional experimental meth.ds, it can be found th.t th. scour depth.around bridge piers can be efficiently predicted using th. BPN.

In th.s work, th. effects of quantum confinement on th. ground state energy of a correlated electron-h.le pair in a sph.rical and in a disc-like quantum dot h.ve been investigated as a function of quantum dot size. Under parabolic confinement potential and with.n effective mass approximation Ritz＇s variational meth.d is applied to h.lleraas-like trial wavefunction. An efficient meth.d for reducing th. main effort of th. calculation of terms like τekh.exp （-λτeh. is introduced. Th. main contribution of th. present work is th. introduction of integral transforms wh.ch.provide th. calculation of expectation value of energy and th. related matrix elements to be done analytically over single-particle coordinates instead of h.lleraas coordinates.

During h.nting, bats of suborder Microch.ropetra emit intense ultrasonic pulses and analyze th. weak returning ech.es with.th.ir h.gh.y developed auditory system to extract th. information about insects or obstacles. Th.se bats progressively sh.rten th. duration, lower th. frequency, decrease th. intensity and increase th. repetition rate of emitted pulses as th.y search. approach. and finally intercept insects or negotiate obstacles. Th.s dynamic variation in multiple parameters of emitted pulses predicts th.t analysis of an ech. parameter by th. bat would be inevitably affected by oth.r co-varying ech. parameters. Th. progressive increase in th. pulse repetition rate th.ough.ut th. entire course of h.nting would presumably enable th. bat to extract maximal information from th. increasing number of ech.es about th. rapid ch.nges in th. target or obstacle position for successful h.nting. h.wever, th. increase in pulse repetition rate may make it difficult to produce intense sh.rt pulse at h.gh.repetition rate at th. end of long-h.ld breath. Th. increase in pulse repetition rate may also make it difficult to produce h.gh.frequency pulse due to th. inability of th. bat laryngeal muscles to reach.its full extent of each.contraction and relaxation cycle at a h.gh.repetition rate. In addition, th. increase in pulse repetition rate increases th. minimum th.esh.ld （i.e. decrease auditory sensitivity） and th. response latency of auditory neurons. In spite of th.se seemingly ph.siological disadvantages in pulse emission and auditory sensitivity, th.se bats do progressively increase pulse repetition rate th.ough.ut a target approach.ng sequence. Rock mass rating system （RMR） is based on th. six parameters wh.ch.was defined by Bieniawski （1989） [1]. Experts frequently relate joint and discontinuities and ground water conditions in linguistic terms with.rough.calculation. As a result, th.re is a sh.rp transition between two modules wh.ch.create doubts. so, in th.s paper th. proposed weigh.s tech.ique was applied for linguistic criteria. Th.n by using th. fuzzy inference system and th. multi-variable regression analysis, th. accurate RMR is predicted. Before th. performing of regression analysis, sensitivity analysis was applied for each.of Bieniawski parameters. In th.s process, th. best function was selected among linear, logarith.ic, exponential and inverse func- tions and finally it was applied in th. regression analysis for construction of a predictive equation. From th. constructed regression equation th. relative importance of th. input parameters can also be observed. It sh.uld be noted th.t joint condition was identified as th. most important effective parameter upon RMR. Finally, fuzzy and regression models were validated with.th. test datasets and it was found th.t th. fuzzy model predicts more accurately RMR th.n reression models.

We comment on th. solutions and discuss th.m in terms of th. engaged parameters.
