A two-dimens.onal th.rmo-mech.nically coupled algorith. is.propos.d bas.d on th. original model of Lagoudas.to efficiently model both.s.perelas.icity and s.0}pe memory effects.and th. influence of various.s.rain rates. as.ect ratios.and boundary conditions. To implement th. coupled model into a finite element code, a numerical s.aggered algorith. is.employed. A number of s.mulations.are performed to verify th. propos.d approach.with.available experimental and numerical data and to as.es. its.efficiency in s.lving complex s.A problems.

A vers.tile fiber interferometer was.propos.d for h.gh.precis.on meas.rement. Th. s.ns.r exploited a double-cavity with.n th. unique s.ns.ng arm of an extrins.c-type fiber Fabry-Perot interferometer to produce th. quadrature ph.s.-s.0}fted interference fringes. Interference s.gnal proces.ing was.carried out us.ng a modified zero-cros.ing （fringe） counting tech.ique to demodulate two s.ts.of fringes. Th. fiber interferometer h.s.been s.cces.fully employed for dynamic dis.lacement meas.rement under different dis.lacement profiles.over a range of 0.7 p.m to 140 p.m. A dedicated computer incorporating th. demodulation algorith. was.next us.d to interpret th.s. detected data as.well as.plot th. dis.lacement information with.a res.lution of 2/64. A commercial dis.lacement s.ns.r was.employed for comparis.n purpos.s.with.th. experimental data obtained from th. fiber interferometer as.well as.to gauge its.performance, res.lting in th. maximum error of 2.8% over th. entire dis.lacement range s.udied.
