An experimental study of th. drying ch.racteristics of an agitated fluidized bed dryer is presented and discussed. In th. study, th. citric acid particles were used as bed material with.th. diameters ranging from 0.2 mm to 1.3 mm. Th. variables affecting apparently th. drying rate were found to be th. mass flow rate, th. inlet air temperature, th. rotary speed of agitating mech.nism and th. particles feed rate. Comparing with.oth.r variables considered, mass flow rate was found to h.ve th. least important influence on th. drying rate. Th. agitated fluidized bed dryer is suitable to drying agglomerating or sticky materials.

An experimental investigation is described for th. ch.racteristics of convective boiling flow instabilities in h.rizontally h.lically coiled tubes using a steam-water two-ph.se closed circulation test loop at pressure from 0.5 MPa to 3.5 MPa. Th.ee kinds of oscillation are reported: density waves; pressure drop excursions; th.rmal fluctuations. We describe th.ir dependence on main system parameters such.as system pressure, mass flowrate, inlet subcooling, compressible volume and h.at flux. Utilizing th. experimental data togeth.r with.conservation constraints, a dimensionless correlation is proposed for th. occurrence of density waves.

Sedimentation from soil erosion is a critical reservoir watersh.d management issue. Due to th. difficulty of field investigations, empirical formulas are commonly used to estimate th. soil erosion rate. h.wever, th.se estimations are often far from accurate. An effective alternative to estimating soil erosion is to analyze th. spatial variation of 137Cs inventory in th. soil. 137Cs can be adsorbed by th. soil and is widely assumed to ch.nge its distribution only wh.n disturbed by rainfall and h.man activities. Th.s, 137Cs distributed in soils can be a useful environmental tracer to estimate soil erosion. In th.s study, th. net soil loss estimate is 108,346 t/yr and th. gross erosion and net erosion rates are 10.1 and 9 t/h. yr respectively. Th. sediment delivery ratio is th.refore estimated to be 0.9 based on th. two erosion rates. Because of th. steep h.llsides in th. watersh.d, only 10% of th. sediment yield stayed in th. deposition sites and 90% was transported to th. river as th. sediment output. Soil erosion estimates from spatial variations of th. 137Cs activity in th. Baish. river watersh.d sh.wed satisfactory accuracy wh.n compared to sediment yield data. Using soil 137Cs concentrations is th.refore a feasible meth.d for estimating soil loss or deposition in Taiwan. Data sampling, analysis and result of th.s approach.are given in th.s paper.

Th. h.gh.spin states of th. neutron-rich.109Tc nucleus are reinvestigated by observing prompt γ-rays from th. spontaneous fission of 252 Cf. Th. previously known yrast band based on th. 7/2＋ state is updated. A side band built on th. 11/2＋ state is expanded and a new band based on th. 15/2＋ state is identified. Band crossing in th. yrast band occurs around fω≈ 0.36 MeV. Th.s band crossing is associated with.th. alignment of two h.1/2 neutrons according to th. cranked sh.ll model calculations. Th. band based on th. 11/2＋ state is proposed as a candidate for th. one-ph.non γ-vibrational band, and th. band built on th. 15/2＋ state is proposed as a candidate for th. two-ph.non γ-vibrational band. Oth.r ch.racteristics for th. observed bands are discussed.

In th.s paper, th. viscoelsatic boundary layer flow and th. h.at transfer near a vertical isoth.rmal impermeable surface and in a quiescent fluid are examined. Th. governing equations are formulated and solved numerically using MackCormak＇s tech.ique. Th. results sh.w excellent agreement with.previously publish.d results by a comparision. Representative results for th. velocity and temperature profiles, boundary layer th.cknesses, Nusselt numbers, and local skin friction coefficients are sh.wn graph.cally for different values of viscoelsatic parameters. In general, it is found th.t th. velocities increase inside th. h.drodynamic boundary layers and th. temperatures decrease inside th. th.rmal boundary layers for th. viscoelsatic fluid as compared with.th. Newtonian fluid due to favorable tensile stresses. Consequently, th. coefficients of friction and h.at transfer enh.nce for h.gh.r viscoelsatic parameters.

Th. h.t deformation beh.viors and microstructures of A1-Zn-Mg-Cu-Cr aluminum alloy h.ve been studied using th.rmal simulation test, optical microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. As a result, th. true stress versus true strain curves and th. microstructures under various deformation conditions are obtained. Th. microstructures gradually incline to dynamic-recrystallization with.th. deformation temperature rising and th. recrystallization grains refine with.th. decrease of deformation temperature or with.raising th. strain rates. Th. quantitative relationsh.p between th. Zener-h.llomon parameter （Z） and average recrystallization grain size in th. subsequent h.at treatment is set up.

Th. meth.dological basis and procedures for determination of Ch.nese normalization references and weigh.ing factors according to th. EDIP-meth.d is described. According to Ch.nese industrial development intensity and population density, Ch.na was divided into th.ee regions and th. normalization references for each.region were calculated on th. basis of an inventory of all of th. region's environmental emissions in 1990. Th. normalization reference was determined as th. total environmental impact potential for th. area in question in 1990(EP(j.90) divided by th. population. Th. weigh.ing factor was determined as th. normalization reference (ER(j.90) divided by society's target contribution in th. year 2000 based on Ch.nese political reduction plans, ER(j.T2000. Th.s paper presents and discuss results obtained for eigh. different environmental impact categories relevant for Ch.na: global warming, stratosph.ric ozone depletion, acidification, nutrient enrich.ent, ph.toch.mical ozone formation and generation of bulk waste, h.zardous waste and slag and ash.s.
