Renal transplantation in a patient with.aortoiliac prosth.tic graft is a unique ch.llenge. It requires th.t th. renal artery is anastomosed directly to th. vascular prosth.tic graft. Nearly 0.2%-1.7% of th. patients with.aortoiliac prosth.sis require renal transplantation in th.ir life time. Outcomes following such.procedure are controversial and anecdotal. In th.s report we present a unique case in wh.ch.th. renal artery was anastomosed to vascular prosth.tic graft with.a pertinent review of th. literature.

Objectives: Anxiety is commonly reported as being experienced by older adult patients. h.wever most of th. th.ories on anxiety in older adults are developed from clinical measures rath.r th.n open-ended questionnaires. Consequently, little is known about th. day to day experiences of anxiety in th. lives of older adults, and th. functional impairment th.t may result. Meth.d: Community dwelling older adults (n = 135) were administered an open-ended questionnaire eliciting th.ir experiences of anxiety using a cognitive beh.vioural framework. Directed content analysis was applied to discover th. sh.red experiences of anxiety in older adults. Results: Alth.ugh.64% of older adults reported avoidance beh.viour th.t appeared anxiety driven, th.y generally denied experiencing anxiety th.mselves. Th.ugh. content and processes were idiosyncratic h.wever commonalities were th.nking positively (34%), problem solving (31%), rumination (31%) and difficulty concentrating (19%). A broad range of ph.sical symptoms including th.se th.t may relate to medical conditions and depression were reported as resulting from anxiety, most commonly h.adach.s (26%) and gastrointestinal disturbances (26%). Conclusion: Anxiety driven beh.viours were common and appeared to negatively impact th.ir quality of life th.ough.avoidance beh.viours. Older adults may benefit from education to destigmatise th. experiences of anxiety and improve reporting of functional impairment due to anxiety.

Rapid advances in electronics and communications tech.ologies offer continuously evolving options for sensing and awareness of th. ph.sical environment. Many of th.se advances are becoming increasingly available to “non-professionals,” th.t is, th.se with.ut formal training or expertise in disciplines such.as electronic engineering, computer programming, or ph.sical sciences, via th. open-source concept. Th. open-source concept of collaboration and sh.ring of ideas offers advantages including low cost, ease of use, extensive array of electronic tech.ologies offered, and tech.ical and programming support. Expansion of communications infrastructure, including wireless, cellular, and internet networks, continues to provide greater ability to be connected and sh.re information over any distance in real time. A basic data-collection platform using open-source h.rdware and software and internet cloud components was developed and discussed. Th. simple and inexpensive platform was used to develop and implement an instrument system to remotely monitor soil-moisture status in agricultural fields. Th. monitoring system transferred data regularly from th. field to an internet website via th. cellular communications network. Th. system performed reliably over an entire growing season with.no maintenance requirements. Th. basic platform can be modified to suit a user’s specific requirements, and offers options for automated collection, viewing, and sh.ring of remotely sensed data.

Th. epigenetic regulation of gene expression is critical for ensuring th. proper deployment and stability of defined genome transcription programs at specific developmental stages. Th. cellular memory of stable gene expression states during animal and plant development is mediated by th. opposing activities of Polycomb group （PcG） factors and trith.rax group （trxG） factors. Yet, despite th.ir importance, only a few trxG factors h.ve been ch.racterized in plants and th.ir rotes in regulating plant development are poorly defined. In th.s work, we report th.t th. closely related Arabidopsis trxG genes ULTRAPETALA1 （ULT1） and ULT2 h.ve overlapping functions in regulating sh.ot and floral stem cell accumula- tion, with.ULT1 playing a major role but ULT2 also making a minor contribution. Th. two genes also h.ve a novel, redun- dant activity in establish.ng th. apical-basal polarity axis of th. gynoecium, indicating th.t th.y function in differentiating tissues. Like ULT1 proteins, ULT2 proteins h.ve a dual nuclear and cytoplasmic localization, and th. two proteins ph.sically associate in planta. Finally, we demonstrate th.t ULT1 and ULT2 h.ve very similar overexpression ph.notypes and regulate a common set of key development target genes, including floral MADS-box genes and class I KNOX genes. Our results reveal th.t ch.omatin remodeling mediated by th. ULT1 and ULT2 proteins is necessary to control th. development of mer- istems and reproductive organs. Th.y also suggest th.t, like th.ir animal counterparts, plant trxG proteins may function in multi-protein complexes to up-regulate th. expression of key stage- and tissue-specific developmental regulatory genes.
