Recent progress in plasma control studies on th. improvement of plasma performance in h.liotron J is reviewed. Th. supersonic molecular beam injection （SMBI） fueling is successfully applied to h.liotron J plasma. A supersonic h.-beam is effectively injected to increase fueling efficiency and generate a peaked density profile. Local fueling with.a sh.rt-pulsed SMBI can increase th. core plasma density and avoid th. degradation arising from edge cooling. Second h.rmonic electron cyclotron current drive （ECCD） experiments were conducted by launch.ng a focused Gaussian beam with.a parallel refractive index of -0.05 ≤ Nil 〈 0.6. Results sh.w th.t th. electron cyclotron （EC） driven current is determined not only by Nil but also by local magnetic field （B） structure wh.re th. EC power is deposited. Detailed analysis of th. observed NI and B dependences is in progress with.a ray-tracing simulation using th. TRAVIS code. Fast ion velocity distribution was investigated using fast protons generated by ion cyclotron resonant frequency （ICRF） minority h.ating. For th. standard configuration in h.liotron J, ch.rge ex- ch.nge neutral particle analysis （CX-NPA） measurements sh.w h.gh.r effective temperature of fast minority protons in th. on-axis resonance case compared to th.t in th. h.S （h.gh.field side） off-axis resonance case. h.wever, th. increase in bulk ion temperature in th. h.S resonance case is larger th.n th.t in th. on-axis resonance.

Th. target is an isotopically enrich.d ^128Te metallic foil of 2.3mg/cm^2 th.ckness with.a 3mg/cm^2 gold backing. Nine anti-Compton h.Ge detectors were employed for th. measurements of γ-γ-t coincidences. Th. level sch.me of ^134Ba, deduced from th.s study, was sh.wn in Fig.1.
