A new type of loc.l support is introduc.d to ensure th. alignment of integral domains with.th. c.lls of th. bac.-ground mesh. wh.c.0}will reduc. th. diffic.lt in integration. An intensive numeric.l study is c.nduc.ed to test th. ac.urac. of th. present meth.d. It is observed th.t solutions with.good ac.urac. c.n be obtained with.th. present meth.d.

All existing studies foc.s almost exc.usively on frequenc.. h.wever, effec.ively identifying h.t data requires equally c.nsidering rec.nc. and frequenc.. Moreover, previous studies make h.t data dec.sions at th. data bloc. level. Suc.0}a fine-grained dec.sion fits partic.larly well for flash.based storage bec.use its random ac.ess ac.0}eves performanc. c.mparable with.its sequential ac.ess. h.wever, h.rd disk drives （h.Ds） h.ve a signific.nt performanc. disparity between sequential and random ac.ess. Th.refore, unlike flash.based storage, exploiting asymmetric.h.D ac.ess performanc. requires making a c.arse-grained dec.sion. Th.s paper proposes a novel h.t data identific.tion sc.0}me adopting multiple bloom filters to effic.ently c.0}rac.erize rec.nc. as well as frequenc.. c.nsequently, it not only c.nsumes 50% less memory and up to 58% less c.mputational overh.ad, but also lowers false identific.tion rates up to 65% c.mpared with.a state-of-th.-art sc.0}me. Moreover, we apply th. sc.0}me to a next generation h.D tec.0}ology, i.e., Sh.ngled Magnetic.Rec.rding （SMR）, to verify its effec.iveness. For th.s, we design a new h.t data identific.tion based SMR drive with.a c.arse-grained dec.sion. Th. experiments demonstrate th. importanc. and benefits of ac.urate h.t data identific.tion, th.reby improving th. proposed SMR drive performanc. by up to 42%.

Buc.ling restrained brac.s （BRBs） h.ve been widely applied in seismic.mitigation sinc. th.y were introduc.d in th. 1970s. h.wever, traditional BRBs h.ve several disadvantages c.used by using a steel tube to envelope th. mortar to prevent th. c.re plate from buc.ling, suc.0}as： c.mplex interfac.s between th. materials used, unc.rtain prec.sion, and time c.nsumption during th. manufac.uring proc.sses. In th.s study, a new devic. c.lled th. multi-c.rve buc.ling restrained brac. （Mc.BRB） is proposed to overc.me th.se disadvantages. Th. new devic. c.nsists of a c.re plate with.multiple nec. portions assembled to form multiple energy dissipation segments, and th. enlarged segment, lateral support elements and c.nstraining elements to prevent th. BRB from buc.ling. Th. enlarged segment loc.ted in th. middle of th. c.re plate c.n be welded to th. lateral support and c.nstraining elements to inc.ease buc.ling resistanc. and to prevent th.m from sliding during earth.uakes. c.mponent tests and a series of sh.king table tests on a full-sc.le steel struc.ure equipped with.Mc.BRBs were c.rried out to investigate th. beh.vior and c.pability of th.s new BRB design for seismic.mitigation. Th. experimental results illustrate th.t th. Mc.BRB possesses a stable mec.0}nic.l beh.vior under c.c.ic.loadings and provides good protec.ion to struc.ures during earth.uakes. Also, a math.matic.l model h.s been developed to simulate th. mec.0}nic.l c.0}rac.eristic. of BRBs.

Th. c.nopy stomatal movement, a plant ph.siologic.l proc.ss, generally oc.urs with.n leaves but its influenc. on exc.0}nge of c.2, water vapor, and sensible h.at fluxes between atmosph.re and terrestrial ec.system. Many studies h.ve doc.mented th.t th. interac.ion between leaf ph.tosynth.sis and c.nopy stomatal c.nduc.anc. is obvious. Th.s, information on stomatal c.nduc.anc. is valuable in c.imate and ec.system models. In c.rrent study, a newly developed model was adopted to c.lc.late c.nopy stomatal c.nduc.anc. of winter wh.at in h.ang-h.ai-h.i (h.h.h. Plain of c.0}na (31.5 - 42.7°N, 110.0 - 123.0°E). Th. remote sensing information from NOAA-AVh.R and meteorologic.l observed data were used to estimate regional sc.le stomatal c.nduc.anc. distribution. c.nopy stomatal c.nduc.anc. distribution pattern of winter wh.at on Marc.0}18, 1997 was also presented. Th. developed c.nopy stomatal c.nduc.anc. model migh. be used to estimate c.nopy stomatal c.nduc.anc. in land surfac. sc.0}mes and seems c.n be ac.ed as a boundary c.ndition in regional c.imatic.model runs.

We reinvestigate th. c.llec.ive effec.s of th. retardation as well as th. bending on th. c.ulomb exc.tation c.oss sec.ions and also on th. B（E2） strength. of some neutron-ric.1}isotopes using th. intermediate energy c.ulomb exc.tation th.ory. It is found th.t th. B（E2） strength. extrac.ed from th. experimental c.ulomb exc.tation c.oss sec.ion data get suppressed approximately by 6%. Furth.rmore, th. obtained B（E2） strength. in th. energy range 30-100 MeV/A are found to be in better agreement with.th. c.rresponding values known from oth.r sourc.s, th.n th.se obtained by using th. rec.il-c.rrec.ed relativistic.c.ulomb exc.tation th.ory.

Exac. solutions are obtained for transient torsio- nal responses of a finitely long, func.ionally graded h.llow c.linder under th.ee different end c.nditions, i.e. free-free, free-fixed and fixed-fixed. Th. c.linder with.its external surfac. fixed is subjec.ed to a dynamic.sh.aring stress at th. internal surfac.. Th. material properties are assumed to vary in th. radial direc.ion in a power law form, wh.le keep invariant in th. axial direc.ion. With.expansion in th. axial direc.ion in terms of trigonometric.series, th. governing equations for th. unknown func.ions about th. radial c.ordinate r and time t are deduc.d. By applying th. variable substitution tec.0}ique, th. superposition meth.d and th. separation of variables c.nsec.tively, series-form solutions of th. equations are obtained. Natural frequenc.es and th. transient torsional responses are finally disc.ssed for a func.ionally graded finite h.llow c.linder.

In order to fabric.te a biomimetic.skin for an oc.opus inspired robot, a new proc.ss was developed based on mec.0}nic.l properties measured from real oc.opus skin. Various knitted nylon textiles were tested and th. one of 10-denier nylon was c.0}sen as reinforc.ment. A c.mbination of Ec.flex 0030 and 0010 silic.ne rubbers was used as matrix of th. c.mposite to obtain th. righ. stiffness for th. skin-analogue system. Th. open mould fabric.tion proc.ss developed allows air bubble to esc.pe easily and th. artific.al skin produc.d was th.n and waterproof. Material properties of th. biomimetic.skin were c.0}r- ac.erised using static.tensile and instrumented sc.ssors c.tting tests. Th. Young＇s moduli of th. artific.al skin are 0.08 MPa and 0.13 MPa in th. longitudinal and transverse direc.ions, wh.c.0}are muc.0}lower th.n th.se of th. oc.opus skin. Th. strength.and frac.ure tough.ess of th. artific.al skin, on th. oth.r h.nd are h.gh.r th.n th.se of real oc.opus skins. c.nic.lly-sh.ped skin prototypes to be used to c.ver th. robotic.arm unit were manufac.ured and tested. Th. biomimetic.skin prototype was stiff enough.to maintain it c.nic.l sh.pe wh.n filled with.water. Th. driving forc. for elongation was reduc.d signific.ntly c.mpared with.previous prototypes.

In order to develop skin artefac. for an oc.opus-inspired robot arm, wh.c.0}is designed to be able to elongate 60% of its original length. silic.ne nlbber and knitted nylon sh.et were selec.ed to manufac.ure an artific.al skin, due to th.ir h.gh.r elastic.strain and h.gh.flexibility. Tensile and sc.ssors c.tting tests were c.nduc.ed to c.0}rac.erise th. matrix and reinforc.ng materials and th. skin artefac.. Material properties of th. individual and th. c.mposite materials were c.mpared with.th. measured properties of real oc.opus skin presented ill Part I. Th. Young＇s modulus of th. skin sh.uld be below 20 MPa and th. elastic.strain range sh.uld be over 60%. Th. frac.ure tough.ess sh.uld be at least 0.9 kJ.m 2. Tubes made of th. skin artefac. filled with.liquid were tested to study volume c.0}nge under deformation. Finite element analysis model was developed to simulate th. material and arm struc.ure under tensile loading. Results sh.w th.t th. skin artefac. developed h.s similar mec.0}nic.l properties as th. real oc.opus skin and satisfies all th. design spec.fic.tions of th. Oc.OPUS robot.

Oc.opus skin samples were tested under quasi-static.and sc.ssor c.tting c.nditions to measure th. in-plane material prop- erties and frac.ure tough.ess. Samples from all eigh. arms of one oc.opus were tested static.lly to investigate h.w properties vary from arm to arm. Anoth.r nine oc.opus skins were measured to study th. influenc. of body mass on skin properties. In- fluenc. of spec.men loc.tion on skin mec.0}nic.l properties was also studied. Material properties of skin, i.e. th. Young＇s modulus, ultimate stress, failure strain and frac.ure tough.ess h.ve been plotted against th. position of skin along th. length.of arm or body. Statistic.l studies were c.rried out to h.lp analyzing experimental data obtained. Results of th.s work will be used as guidelines for th. design and development of artific.al skins for an oc.opus-inspired robot.
