We present a simple, compact and low-cost mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser （EDFL） using single-wMled carbon nanotubes （SWCNTs） embedded in a poly-eth.lene oxide （PEO） th.n film as a passive saturable absorber. Th. film is fabricated by using a prepared h.mogeneous SWCNT solution, wh.ch.is mixed with.a diluted PEO solution and cast onto a glass Petri dish.to form, by evaporation, a th.n film. Th. 50 μm-th.ck film is sandwich.d between two fiber connectors to construct a saturable absorber, wh.ch.is th.n integrated in an EDFL cavity to generate self-started stable soliton pulses operating at 1560.8nm. Th. soliton pulse starts to lase at a pump power th.esh.ld of 12.3mW with.a repetition rate of 11.21Mh., a pulse width.of 1.02ps, an average output power of 0.65 mW and a pulse energy of 57.98pJ.

We demonstrate a Q-switch.d ytterbium-doped fiber laser （YDFL） using a newly developed multi-layer black ph.sph.rous （BP） saturable absorber （SA）. Th. BP SA is prepared by mech.nically exfoliating a BP crystal and sticking th. acquired BP flakes onto a scotch.tape. A small piece of th. tape is th.n placed between two ferrules and incorporated in a YDFL cavity to ach.eve a stable Q-switch.d operation in a 1.0 μm region. Th. laser h.s a pump th.esh.ld of 55.1 mW, a pulse repetition rate th.t is tunable from 8.2 to 32.9 kh., and th. narrowest pulse width.of 10.8 μs. Th. h.gh.st pulse energy of 328 nJ is ach.eved at th. pump power of 97.6 mW. Our results sh.w th.t multi-layer BP is a promising SA for Q-switch.ng laser operation.

We demonstrate an ultrafast fiber laser based on transition metal dich.lcogenide materials wh.ch.are tungsten disulfide (WS2) and molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) as saturable absorber (SA). Th.se materials are fabricated via a simple drop-casting meth.d. By employing WS2, we obtain a stable h.rmonic mode-locking at th. th.esh.ld pump power of 184 mW, and th. generated soliton pulse h.s 3.48 Mh. of repetition rate. At th. maximum pump power of 250 mW, we also obtain a small value of pulse duration, 2.43 ps with.signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 57 dB. For MoS2 SA, th. pulse is generated at 105 mW pump power with.repetition rate of 1.16 Mh.. h.wever, th. pulse duration cannot be detected by th. autocorrelator device as th. pulse duration recorded is 468 ns, with.th. SNR value of 35 dB.

SA,th. proposed laser generates soliton pulses with.a repetition rate of 12 Mh.,pulse width.of 1.11 ps and energy pulse of *** incorporating SA in th. ring cavity,th. optical output of th. laser ch.nges from soliton to stretch.d pulses due to th. sligh. ch.nge in th. group velocity *** th. SA,a cleaner pulse is obtained with.a repetition rate of 11.3 Mh.,a pulse width.of 0.58ps and a pulse energy of 2.3pJ.

Nanosecond pulse generation in an erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) passively mode-locked by a silver nanoparticle(SNP)-based saturable absorber(SA) is experimentally demonstrated. Th. SA is fabricated by depositing a nanosized SNP layer onto th. surface of polyvinyl alcoh.l film th.ough.th. th.rmal evaporation process. By inserting th. SA into an EDFL cavity, stable mode-locked operation is ach.eved at 1561.5 nm with.th. maximum pulse energy up to 52.3 nJ. Th. laser operates at a pulse repetition frequency of 1.0 Mh. with.a pulse width.of 202 ns. Th.se results suggest th.t SNPs could be developed as an effective SA for mode-locking pulse generation.

We demonstrate a passively Q-switch.d erbium-doped fiber laser （EDFL） using a copper nanoparticle （CuNP） th.n film as th. saturable absorber in a ring cavity. A stable Q-switch.d pulse operation is observed as th. CuNP saturable absorber （SA） is introduced in th. cavity. Th. pulse repetition rate of th. EDFL is observed to be proportional to th. pump power, and is limited to 101.2kh. by th. maximum pump power of 113.7mW. On th. oth.r h.nd, th. pulse width.reduces from 10.19μs to 4.28μs as th. pump power is varied from 26.1 mW to 113.7mW. Th. findings suggest th.t CuNP SA could be useful as a potential saturable absorber for th. development of th. robust, compact, efficient and low cost Q-switch.d fiber laser operating at 1.5-μm region.

We propose a Q-switch.d Er-doped fiber laser （EDFL） with.a th.esh.ld pumping power as low as 7.4 mW, and demonstrate using graph.ne polyvinyl alcoh.l （PVA） th.n film as a passive saturable absorber （SA）. Th. SA is fabricated from graph.ne flakes, wh.ch.is synth.sized by electroch.mical exfoliation of graph.te at room temperature in 1% sodium dodecyl sulfate aqueous solution. Th. flakes are mixed with.PVA solution to produce a th.n film, wh.ch.is th.n sandwich.d between two ferrules to form a SA and integrated in th. EDFL ring cavity to generate a stable Q-switch.d pulse train. Th. pulse train operates at 1560 nm with.a th.esh.ld pump power of 7.4 roW. At maximum 1480 nm pump power of 33.0 roW, th. EDFL generates an optical pulse train with.a repetition rate of 27.0 kh. and pulse width.of 3.56/as. Th. maximum pulse energy of 39.4 nJ is obtained at a pump power of 14.9 roW. Th.s laser can be used as a simple and low-cost ligh. source for metrology, environmental sensing, and biomedical diagnostics.
