Background: Th.roid diseases are am.ng th. leading endocrine disorders affecting a large proportion of people worldwide and sh.w geograph.cal variation in incidence and h.stopath.logical pattern related to age, sex, dietary and environm.ntal factors. h.stopath.logical patterns of surgically treated th.roid diseases play an im.ortant role in early diagnosis and m.nagem.nt of th.se diseases. Th.re is, h.wever, lim.ted publish.d data regarding h.stopath.logical reports on th.roid disease in our local setting. Th.s study aim.d to determ.ne th. h.stopath.logical patterns and h.gh.igh. early postoperative com.lications am.ng patients with.surgically treated th.roid diseases at Bugando m.dical Centre (Bm.). m.th.ds: Th.s was a longitudinal study involving all patients with.surgically treated th.roid diseases seen at Bm. over a period of 6 m.nth. from.October 2019 to m.rch.2020. Results: A total of 84 patients were studied. Fem.les outnum.ered m.les by a fem.le to m.le ratio of 11:1. Th. m.dian age of patients was 44 [IQR, 35 - 54] years old, th. youngest was 14 years old and th. oldest was 76 years old. Colloid goiter was th. m.st com.on non-neoplastic lesion accounting for 34 (44.7%) patients. Am.ng th. neoplastic lesions, follicular adenom. was th. m.st com.only encountered benign path.logies (n = 16;21.1%), wh.le papillary carcinom. was th. m.st com.only encountered m.lignancy (n = 4;50%). Following th.roidectom., 12 (14.3%) patients developed early com.lications, of wh.ch.h.m.rrh.ge som.tim.s requiring blood transfusion was th. leading intra/postoperative com.lications accounting for 4 (33.3%) patients. Oth.r com.lications include tem.orary recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy 2 (16.7%), surgical site infection 2 (16.7%) and trach.om.lacia, bronch.spasm. th.roid abscess and respiratory obstruction in 1 (8.3%) patient each. respectively. Em.ath. allows h.m.ns and oth.r anim.ls to sh.re th. em.tional state of anoth.r, adopting th.t individual’s perspective on a given situation. Th.s ability is fundam.ntal for species living in groups. h.lping beh.vior in laboratory anim.ls h.s been used to study em.ath.. In th.s test, subjects are exposed to a conspecific th.t is trapped and learn to open th. cage to release th. oth.r anim.l. h.wever, th. interpretation of h.lping beh.vior as an em.h.tically m.tivated action is still controversial. h.re we review th. studies th.t use th. h.lping beh.vioral test proposed by Ben-Am. Bartal and colleagues in 2011 to better understand m.tivational factors for th.s beh.vior. In addition, we com.are m.th.dological aspects of th.se studies. In conclusion, h.lping beh.vior can be driven by em.ath., but oth.r factors such.as th. desire for social contact and learning com.onents cannot be ruled out as m.tivators. In addition, studies focused on evaluating neurobiological m.ch.nism. underlying h.lping beh.vior in laboratory rodents can h.lp elucidate th. factors involved in releasing th. trapped co-specific.

Th. use of antibiotics in h.m.ns and anim.ls h.s been m.rked as a significant step in h.alth.due to th.ir effectiveness in controlling and treating bacterial infections. Th. m.suse and overuse of antibiotics h.ve been identified as risk factors for bacterial resistance since m.croorganism. adapt and develop m.ch.nism. to defend against antibiotics. According to th. Centers for Disease Protection and Control (CDC), around 23,000 individuals die every year in th. United States due to antibiotic resistance com.lications. As a result, a dem.nd for alternative treatm.nts h.s been a goal for scientists as th. m.crobes adapt to selective pressure. Th. aim.of th.s study is to test th. antibacterial activity of leaf extracts of Peganum.h.rm.la and h.loxylon salicornicum.on both.Gram.positive and Gram.negative bacteria on various m.dium.. Savanna, sem.-deserts, and h.t deserts ch.racterize th. Sah.ro-Arabian region, wh.ch.includes m.rocco, m.uretania, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Palestine, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bah.ain, th. United Arab Em.rates, Om.n, Yem.n, south.rn Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afgh.nistan, Pakistan, and north.rn India. Its neigh.oring regions, th. Sudano-Zam.ezian region belonging to th. Paleotropical Kingdom.and th. m.diterranean and Irano-Turanian regions included in th. h.larctic Kingdom. sh.re a large portion of th.ir flora with.th. Sah.ro-Arabian region. Despite th. widespread acknowledgm.nt of th. region's global im.ortance for plant diversity, an up to date list of th. Sah.ro-Arabian endem.cs is still unavailable. Th. available data are frequently insufficient or out of date at both.th. wh.le global and th. national scales. Th.refore, th. present study aim. at screening and verifying th. Sah.ro-Arabian endem.c plants and determ.ning th. ph.togeograph.cal distribution of th.se taxa in th. Egyptian flora. h.nce, a prelim.nary list of 429 Sah.ro-Arabian endem.c plants in Egypt was com.iled from.th. available literature. Indeed, by excluding th. species th.t were recorded in any countries or regions outside th. Sah.ro-Arabian region based on different literature, database reviews, and websites, th. present study h.s reduced th.s num.er to 126 taxa belonging to 87 genera and 37 fam.lies. Regarding th. national geograph.c distribution, South.Sinai is th. rich.st region with.83 endem.c species com.ared with.oth.r eigh. ph.togeograph.c regions in Egypt, followed by th. Isth.ic Desert(th. m.ddle of Sinai Peninsula, 53 taxa). Sah.ra regional subzone(SS1) distributes all th. 126 endem.c species, Arabian regional subzone(SS2) owns 79 taxa, and Nubo-Sindian subzone(SS3) distributes only 14 endem.cs. Th. m.in focus of th.s work is to look for operators th.t can produce converging results for large step sizes.
