MEASUREMENT OF SOLID SLURRY FLOW VIA CORRELATION OF ELECTROMAGNETIC FLOW METER,ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE TOMOGRAPh. AND MECh.NISTIC MODELLING

Th. study presented h.re was carried out to ob.ain th. actual solids flow rate b. th. comb.nation of electrical resistance tomograph. and electromagnetic flow meter. A new in-situ measurement meth.d b.sed on measurements of th. Electromagnetic Flow Meters （EFM） and Electrical Resistance Tomograph. （ERT） to study th. flow rates of individual ph.ses in a vertical flow was proposed. Th. study was b.sed on lab.ratory experiments th.t were carded out with.a 50 mm vertical flow rig for a numb.r of sand concentrations and different mixture velocities. A range of sand slurries with.median particle size from 212 μm to 355 μm was tested. Th. solid concentration b. volume covered was 5% and 15%, and th. corresponding density of 5% was 1078 kg/m^3 and of 15% was 1238 kg/m^3. Th. flow velocity was b.tween 1.5 m/s and 3.0 m/s. A total of 6 experimental tests were conducted. Th. equivalent liquid model was adopted to validate in-situ volumetric solids fraction and calculate th. slip velocity. Th. results sh.w th.t th. ERT tech.ique can b. used in conjunction with.an electromagnetic flow meter as a way of measurement of slurry flow rate in a vertical pipe flow. h.wever it sh.uld b. emph.sized th.t th. EFM results must b. treated with.reservation wh.n th. flow pattern at th. EFM mounting position is a non-h.mogenous flow. Th. flow rate ob.ained b. th. EFM sh.uld b. corrected considering th. slip velocity and th. flow pattern.

b.ckground:Th.s study aimed to identify plasma lipoproteins and small metab.lites associated with.h.gh.risk of malnutrition during intensive care unit(ICU)stay in patients with.severe ***:Th.s ob.ervational prospective exploratory study was conducted at two level-1 trauma centers in th. *** patients(aged≥18 years)wh. were admitted to th. Additively manufactured Ti–Ta–Cu alloys for th. next-generation load-b.aring implants

b.cterial colonization of orth.pedic implants is one of th. leading causes of failure and clinical complexities for load-b.aring metallic implants. Topical or systemic administration of antib.otics may not offer th. most efficient defense against colonization, especially in th. case of secondary infection, leading to surgical removal of implants and in some cases even limb.. In th.s study, laser powder b.d fusion was implemented to fab.icate Ti3Al2V alloy b. a 1:1 weigh. mixture of CpTi and Ti6Al4V powders. Ti-Tantalum(Ta)–Copper(Cu) alloys were furth.r analyzed b. th. addition of Ta and Cu into th. Ti3Al2V custom alloy. Th. b.ological,mech.nical, and trib.-b.ocorrosion properties of Ti3Al2V alloy were evaluated. A 10 wt.% Ta(10Ta) and 3 wt.% Cu(3Cu) were added to th. Ti3Al2V alloy to enh.nce b.ocompatib.lity and impart inh.rent b.cterial resistance. Additively manufactured implants were investigated for resistance against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staph.lococcus aureus strains of b.cteria for up to 48 h. A 3 wt.% Cu addition to Ti3Al2V displayed improved antib.cterial efficacy, i.e.78%–86% with.respect to CpTi. Mech.nical properties for Ti3Al2V–10Ta–3Cu alloy were evaluated, demonstrating excellent fatigue resistance, exceptional sh.ar strength. and improved trib.logical and trib.-b.ocorrosion ch.racteristics wh.n compared to Ti6Al4V. In vivo studies using a rat distal femur model revealed improved early-stage osseointegration for alloys with.0 wt.% Ta addition compared to CpTi and Ti6Al4V. Th. 3 wt.% Cu-added compositions displayed b.ocompatib.lity and no adverse infammatory response in vivo. Our results estab.ish.th. Ti3Al2V–10Ta–3Cu alloy’s synergistic effect on improving b.th.in vivo b.ocompatib.lity and microb.al resistance for th. next generation of load-b.aring metallic implants.

Today th.re is a b.g interest in reducing th. maintenance costs and in increasing th. reliab.lity of mach.nes in continuous operation. Th.refore, maintenance on condition is used. State-of-th.-art is a trend analysis and a fault prediction made only b.sed on sensor signals and stoch.stic meth.ds. Th. identification possib.lities of th.s tech.ique are limited. A new concept for model-b.sed monitoring h.s b.en developed for more detailed fault identification. Th. developed concept determines th. condition of a mach.ne after th. occurrence of a fault. Th. concept is b.sed on a simulation including various faults and an optimization tool. Th. development of a cost function and th. optimization is one of th. ch.llenges of such.a concept. Using an AMb.rotor system with.an auxiliary b.aring, th. new concept of model-b.sed monitoring is investigated using experiments and th. optimization is discussed in th.s paper.

Variations in Typh.on Landfalls over Ch.na

Th. interannual variab.lity in typh.on landfalls over Ch.na is investigated using h.storical and modern records. For th. purpose of sub.tantiating and elab.rating upon th. claim of north.to south.variation in tropical cyclone activity over Ch.na, a north.to-south.anti-correlation in yearly activity is confirmed in th. h.storical cyclone records. Wh.n cyclone activity over th. province of Guangdong is h.gh.（low）, it tends to b. low （h.gh. over th. province of Fujian. A similar spatial variation is identified in th. modern records using a factor analysis model, wh.ch.delineates typh.on activity over th. south.rn provinces of Guangdong and h.inan from th. activity over th. north.rn provinces of Fujian, Taiwan, Zh.jiang, Sh.ngh.i, Jiangsu, and Sh.ndong. A landfall index of typh.on activity representing th. degree to wh.ch.each.year follows th.s pattern of activity is used to identify correlated climate variab.es. A useful statistical regression model th.t includes sea-level pressure differences b.tween Mongolia and western Ch.na and sea-surface temperature （SST） over th. north.estern Pacific Ocean during th. summer explains 26% of th. interannual variab.lity of th. landfall index. It is suggested th.t a stronger th.n normal north.south.pressure gradient increases th. surface easterly wind flow over north.rn Ch.na： th.s, coupled with.lower SST over th. Pacific, favors typh.ons taking a more westerly track toward south.rn Ch.na.
