OBJECTIVE The study aims to translate the Sexual FunctionVaginal Changes Questionnaire （SVQ） into Chinese and to establish its psychometric *** A Chinese SVQ was developed by the use of the Brislin model of translation. The content validity and semantic equivalence were assessed by an expert panel. The translated version of SVQ was administered to 75 hong Kong Chinese women who were suffered from gynecological cancer to test its psychometric *** The Chinese version of SVQ was compared to the original study for factor analysis. Internal consistency, itemtoscale correlations and test-retest reliability were high. The convergent and divergent validities supported the Chinese SVQ to CONCLUSION We conclude that the Chinese SVQ appears to be a valid, reliable and feasible disease-specific tool for the assessment of sexual function among Chinese patients.

AIM To investigate the precise role of membrane type 1-matrix metalloproteinase （NTI-NNP） in hepatocellular carcinoma （hCC） metastasis. METhODS- human hCC cells hep3B with overexpression of MTT-MMP were established by stable transfection, and compared with control cells carrying the empty vector. Cells were examined in vivo for their differences in the metastatic ability of athymic nude mice, and analyzed in vito for their differences in invasion ability by invasion chamber coated with Matrigel, adhesion towards collagen I and migration through culture chamber. Cell proliferation and apoptosis in adherent and suspension status were evaluated by MTr and flow cytometry analysis. RESULTS We found that overexpression of MT1-MMP could increase intrahepatic metastasis in nude mice with orthotopic implantation of hCC cells （incidence of 100% [MT1-MMP transfectants] vs 40% [vector control transfectants], P〈0.05）. NT1-MMP could also enhance cell invasion through Natrigel （107.7 vs 39.3 cells/field, P〈0.001）, adhesion towards matrix （0.30 vs 0.12 absorbance unit at 540 nm, P〈0.001）, cell migration （89.3 vs 39.0 cells/field, P〈0.001）, and cell proliferation （24.3 vs 40.5 h/doubling, P〈0.001）. We also observed that NTI-NNP supported cell survival （71.4% vs 23.9%, P〈0.001） with reduced apoptosis （43.7% vs51.0%, P〈0.05） in an attachment-free environment. CONCLUSION： MT1-MMP overexpression could enhance metastasis. In addition to its active role in matrix degradation during tumor invasion, MT1-MMP enhances tumor cell survival upon challenge of detachment, which is important during metastasis when cells enter the circulation.

The effect of several parameters on the recovery of silicon dioxide from calcined boron mud（CBM）such as stirring speed, temperature, sodium silicate concentration, and carbonation time was studied. The recovery of silicon dioxide is 88 % when the stirring speed is450 r min-1, temperature is 60 °C, sodium silicate concentration is 1 mol L-1, and the carbonation time is 6 *** effect of carbonation time on the recovery of silicon dioxide is divided into three kinetic regimes, and the carbonation process of sodium silicate solution follows a second-order reaction based on the double-film theory model. The apparent rate constant of the three kinetic regimes is 0.064, 3.178, and 1.130 L h mol-1, *** amorphous SiO_2 products obtained by carbonating the purified solution have 99.6 % purity and are spherical with diameters of about 100 nm.

AIM: To assess the clinical characteristics of helicobacterpylori(h pylori) negative duodenal ***: Patients with an endoscopic diagnosis of duodenal ulcer between 1996 and 2002 were included in the present study. Patients were considered to be negative for hpylori, if both histological examination and rapid urease test of biopsy specimens were negative. A comparison was made between patients with h pyloripositive and negative duodenal ***: A total of 1 343 patients were studied. Their mean age was 54.7±0.5 years. There was a male preponderance (M:F = 2.5:1). Three hundred and ninetyeight patients (29.6%) did not have h pylori infection. The annual proportion of patients with h pylori negative duodenal ulcers increased progressively from 1996 to2002. On multivariate analysis, patients with h pylorinegative duodenal ulcer were more likely to be older, have concomitant medical problem, pre-existing malignancy, recent surgery, underlying sepsis, or taken non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. In terms of clinical presentations, patients with h pylori negative duodenal ulcer were more likely to present with bleeding, multiple ulcers and larger ***: The proportion of patients with h pylori negative duodenal ulcers is on the rise because of a continued drop in incidence of h pylori positive duodenalulcers in recent years. Such patients have distinct clinical characteristics and it is important to ascertain the h pylori status before starting eradication therapy.

Background: Post-hepatectomy liver failure(PhLF) is a leading cause of postoperative mortality after liver surgery. Due to its significant impact, it is imperative to understand the risk stratification and preventative strategies for PhLF. The main objective of this review is to highlight the role of these strategies in a timeline centered way around curative resection. Data sources: This review includes studies on both humans and animals, where they addressed PhLF. A literature search was conducted across the Cochrane Library, Embase, MEDLINE/Pub Med, and Web of Knowledge electronic databases for English language studies published between July 1997 and June 2020. Studies presented in other languages were equally considered. The quality of included publications was assessed using Downs and Black’s checklist. The results were presented in qualitative summaries owing to the lack of studies qualifying for quantitative analysis. Results: This systematic review with 245 studies, provides insight into the current prediction, prevention, diagnosis, and management options for PhLF. This review highlighted that liver volume manipulation is the most frequently studied preventive measure against PhLF in clinical practice, with modest improvement in the treatment strategies over the past decade. Conclusions: Remnant liver volume manipulation is the most consistent preventive measure against PhLF.

Mutations in the polymerase basic 2(PB2) gene of avian influenza viruses are important signatures for their adaptation to mammalian hosts. Various adaptive mutations have been identified around the 627 and nuclear localization sequence(NLS) domains of PB2 protein, and these mutations contribute to the replicative ability of avian influenza ***, few studies have focused on adaptive mutations in other regions of PB2. In this study, we investigated the functional roles of the D253N mutation in PB2 in an h9N2 virus. This mutation was found to affect an amino acid residue in the middle domain of the PB2 protein. The virus with the D253N mutation showed higher polymerase activity and transiently increased viral replication in human cells. however, the mutant did not show significant differences in viral replication in the respiratory tract of mice upon infection. Our results supported that the D253N mutation in the middle domain of PB2, similar to mutations at the 627 and NLS domains, specifically contributed to the replication of avian influenza viruses in human cells.

Background Retinopathy of prematurity(ROP)is generally considered to be more frequent in males than in ***,it is not known whether sex differences in ROP affect all degrees of the condition,are global and have changed as neonatology has *** aimed to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies addressing sex differences in the risk of developing *** PubMed/MEDLINE and Embase databases were *** frequentist,random-effects risk ratio(RR)and 95%confidence interval(CI)were *** model averaged(BMA)meta-analysis was used to calculate the Bayes factors(BFs).The BF10 is the ratio of the probability of the data under the alternative hypothesis(h1)over the probability of the data under the null hypothesis(h0).Results We included 205 studies(867,252 infants).Frequentist meta-analysis showed a positive association between male sex and severe ROP(113 studies,RR=1.14,95%CI=1.07–1.22)but no association with any ROP(144 studies,RR=1.00,95%CI=0.96–1.03).BMA showed extreme evidence in favor of h1 for severe ROP(BF10=71,174)and strong evidence in favor of h0 for any ROP(BF10=0.05).The association between male sex and severe ROP remained stable over time and was present only in cohorts from countries with a high or high-middle sociodemographic *** Our study confirms the presence of a male disadvantage in severe ROP but not in less severe forms of the *** are variations in the sex differences in ROP,depending on geographical location and sociodemographic level of the countries.

AIM： To determine the role of ciprofloxacin in reducing cholangitis in cholestatic patients with adequate biliary drainage after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatogra phy （ERCP）. METhODS： A randomized, controlled trial was performed in 48 cholestatic patients at Rajavithi hospital （Tertiary Referral Center for ERCP： 600 cases per year）. All the 48 patients received 200 mg ciprofloxacin intravenous injection for 30 min before starting any procedures, and then were randomly divided in two groups. Twenty-two patients in study group continually received dprofloxacin until 48 h after ERCP. Causes of biliary obstruction, bacteriology of bile and blood （in cholangitis） and dinical cholangitis were recorded. RESULTS： Forty-eight patients were enrolled and divided into continuous ciprofloxacin treatment group （/7 = 22） and discontinuous ciprofloxacin treatment group （n = 26）. During ERCP, stones were found in 22 patients, malignant diseases in 24 patients and other pathologic lesions in 5 patients. One （4.5%） of the 22 patients who received ciprofloxacin and 2 （6.3%） of the 26 patients who discontinued ciprofloxacin after ERCP developed cholangitis （relative risk = 0.71; 95% CI = 0.14-3.65; P = 0.88）. Bacterobilia was found in 27 （56.3%） out of 48 patients. E. coli and Streptococcus viridans were the most common organisms. CONCLUSION： Continual use of ciprofloxacin in patients with cholestasis after adequate biliary drainage procedures plays no role in reducing cholangitis.

homeostasis of platelet number in human and other mammals is well maintained for prevention of minor bleeding and for other im- munological functions, but the exact molecular mechanism responsible for immune thrombocytopenic purpura （ITP） has not been fully understood. In an effort to identify genetic factors involved in initiation of platelet production in response to bleeding injury or platelet destruction, we have successfully generated an animal model of human ITP via intraperitoneal injection of anti-platelet antibody into the Balb/c mouse. Platelet counts were dropped dramatically in animals that received antibody injection within 4 h, maintained at the mini- mum level for a period of 44 h, started to rebound after 48 h, and reached to the maximum at 144 h （6 days）. Final homeostasis reached at approximately 408 h （17 days）, following a minor cycle of platelet number fluctuation. Using semi-quantitative RT-PCR, we assessed and compared mRNA level of CD41, c-myb, c-mpl, caspase-3, caspase-9, GATA-1, and Bcl-xl in bone marrow and spleen. Alteration of mRNA expression was correlated with the change of platelet level, and an inverse relationship was found for expression of the genes be- tween bone marrow and spleen. No transcription was detectable for any of the seven genes in bone marrow at the time when platelet number reached the maximum （144 h）. In contrast, mRNA transcripts of the seven genes were found to be at the highest level in spleen tissue. This is the first study of simultaneous detection of multiple platelet related genes in a highly reproducible ITP animal model. Our results provided the supportive evidence that expression of the above seven genes are more related to negative regulation of platelet number in spleen tissue, at least in the model animals.
