A Situated Learning Practice for Language Teaching Classes： Teaching Spoken English With Authentic Sketches

SL （situated learning） is a term first proposed by Lave and Wenger （1991） as a model of learning in a community of practice. According to Lave and Wenger （1991）, learning should not be viewed as simply the transmission of abstract and decontextualised knowledge from one individual to another, but a social process whereby knowledge is co-constructed. The exposure to spoken language and cultural elements of foreign language is the best way of teaching the language itself rather than grammatical patterns and rules of the language. In this study, we aim to review ＂situational learning approach＂ in context with its role and efficiency of teaching spoken language. An experimental study was conducted on the university students in the preparatory classes at the School of Tourism of Erzincan University. Twelve male and 11 female students in the control group and 14 male and 10 female students in the experimental group took part in the research. The language levels of the students were determined by a language proficiency test which is used as pre-test of the study. Language proficiency test composed of mainly dialogues including spoken language patterns. After eight weeks of lectures with authentic sketches which were used as reading materials in experimental group and classical reading materials in control group, the students were given the same language proficiency test as post-test. When pre- and post-test results were evaluated, significant difference was found between the pre- and post-test results of the subjects on behalf of the students in the experimental group. It is concluded that spoken language can be achieved by authentic sketches which are designed to serve as a situated learning setting.

Flexible alternating current transmission system(FACTS)components are used to utilize the electrical transmission lines at their optimum *** best way to achieve this optimization is to manage the active and reactive power flows.A unified power flow controller(UPFC)is one of the most significant devices developed for the effective control of power *** conventional UPFC structures can be used to achieve this process,the expansion of power systems has led to the necessity of developing various UPFC *** paper focuses on an advanced real time control approach of UPFC for dynamic voltage *** developed model is incorporated in the Gauss-Seidel(GS)power flow algorithm and the proposed method is validated on the IEEE-30 bus system that is designed under MATLAB/Simulink *** the proposed method was validated by comparing with the normal operating conditions,advantages were observed on two *** the first case,a generator outage is applied to system to observe behavior of proposed model in power loss *** the second case,line fault conditions were used for *** results from testing the model for both cases prove that the approach has positive effects on dynamic power systems.

A high Performance Multifrontal Code for Linear Solution of Structures Using Multi-Core Microprocessors

A multifrontal code is introduced for the efficient solution of the linear system of equations arising from the analysis of structures. The factorization phase is reduced into a series of interleaved element assembly and dense matrix operations for which the BLAS3 kernels are used. A similar approach is generalized for the forward and back substitution phases for the efficient solution of structures having multiple load conditions. The program performs all assembly and solution steps in parallel. Examples are presented which demonstrate the code’s performance on single and dual core processor computers.

Association of complementary and integrative therapy use and symptoms among Turkish patients with familial Mediterranean fever

Objective: This study explored the correlations between the use of complementary and integrative therapies(CITs) and symptoms among Turkish patients with familial Mediterranean fever(FMF).Methods: This is a cross-sectional and descriptive study. The study was conducted with 1119 FMF patients who were registered to the social networking site for Behcet’s and the FMF Patients Association(Befemder) in Turkey, between January 2018 and February 2019. Data were collected using an online survey, for which a three-part questionnaire was created using a Google form. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the ***: It was determined that 53.2% of the individuals who participated in the research used various forms of CITs and that 32.8% used vitamin and mineral supplements(calcium, iron, and vitamin B12, C and D), 25.0% used nutritional supplements(fish oil and honey), and 24.6% used oral herbs(ginger, turmeric, green tea and rosemary) and mind–body methods(relaxation, respiration exercise and meditation). It was determined that the percentage of participants that used CITs was higher among women(odds ratio [OR] = 1.825;95% confidence interval [CI] 1.421–2.344), those with joint pain(OR = 1.385;95% CI 1.047–1.832), those with difficulty breathing(OR = 1.323;95% CI 1.031–1.697), those with gastrointestinal symptoms(OR = 1.405;95% CI 1.089–1.814) and those who had a family member with FMF(OR = 1.437;95% CI 1.115–1.851).Conclusion: More than half of the individuals used at least one type of CIT for symptom control.

Relationship between serum adenosine deaminase levels and liver histology in autoimmune hepatitis

AIM To evaluate the relationship between serum adenosine deaminase(ADA) levels and histological features in patients with autoimmune hepatitis(AIh).METhODS A total of 80 subjects(52 AIh cases and 28 healthy controls) were included in the study. Patients were diagnosed according to the simplified criteria suggested by the International Autoimmune hepatitis Group. All of the cases had been diagnosed with AIh between 2010-2015 at hacettepe University, Department of Gastroenterology. Serum blood samples were collected and stored at-80 ℃ until the biochemical estimation of ADA activity. The diagnosis of patients was confirmed by liver biopsy. Serum ADA > 20 U/L was considered to be high *** Mean serum ADA levels were significantly higher in AIh patients than those in healthy controls(25.4 ± 9.6 U/L vs 12.8 ± 2.2 U/L, P 20 U/L were found in 63.5% AIh patients and in 0% healthy controls(P h stage of histological activity: 15.2 ± 3.5 U/L for patients with mild interface hepatitis, 23.1 ± 10.0 U/L for patients with moderate interface hepatitis and 30.9 ± 7.0 U/L for patients with severe interface hepatitis(P howed that there was a positive association between serum ADA levels and histological activity(r = 0.71, P haracteristic analysis suggested that 24.5 U/L was the optimum cut-off point of ADA level for severe interface hepatitis(sensitivity 88%, specificity 85.2%, area under thecurve: 0.88).CONCLUSION Because of the positive correlation with inflammatory activity, serum ADA level may be a potential biomarker for predicting or monitoring histological activity in patients with AIh.

Strong strain path dependence of strain localizations and fracture in magnesium AZ31 sheet

This study compares the deformation and fracture behavior of a basal-textured Mg AZ31 alloy sheet under uniaxial tension and biaxial stretching by using an in-plane biaxial test setup capable of observing and measuring the deformation at both meso(millimeter)and microstructure *** distributions at the mesoscale and accompanying fracture surfaces indicate a significant dependence on strain *** the microscale,limited slip activity in biaxial case promotes contraction twins,where severe strain localizations(εmax/εmean≈220)to the twins and their boundaries cause mainly transgranular *** leads to a brittle,and a more pronounced shear-type fracture under biaxial *** uniaxial case,considerable tensile twinning activity reorients the initial texture for slip *** localizations(εmax/εmean≈2)to the grain interiors and boundaries initiate mainly intergranular *** fail by displaying both brittle and ductile fracture structures,with smaller shear lips compared to the biaxial case.

全球化的速度和程度使得各组织必须寻求创新技术以赶上其竞争对手,这使得许多公司,特别是发展中国家的公司为控制市场而竞争。组织关心的是成本最小化,而员工关心的是工作负荷最小化。本研究旨在探讨尼日利亚制造业员工的工作负荷与员工创新行为之间的关系,并探讨心理资本在这一关系中的调节作用。采用定量研究和随机抽样方法检验本研究的假设,向尼日利亚拉各斯四个制造业的全职员工通过门户网站发放在线问卷。共发放问卷360份,历时九周,回收315份,收回率为87.5%。使用统计软件包(SPSS)对数据进行处理和分析。采用描述性统计、皮尔逊相关分析和多元回归来检验研究假设。首先,模型具有较好的信度,在95%的置信区间内R2为68.1%。然后,研究结果表明,第一,工作负荷与员工创新行为呈负相关关系(r=-0.742,B=-0.239,p<0.05);第二,心理资本与员工创新行为呈显著正相关关系(r=0.807,B=0.626,p<0.05);第三,心理资本对工作负荷与员工创新行为关系起调节作用(b=0.071,p<0.05)。本研究的结果与资源保存(COR)和工作需求资源(JD-R)模型一致,认为心理资本可以作为个人资源,缓解工作负荷的负效应,激发创新行为。这项研究表明,在心理资本较低的员工中,工作负荷可能会产生潜在的有害影响。该研究建议,各组织在设计人力资源管理实践与政策人力资源管理实践与政策。该研究建议,各组织在设计组织模式和政策时,应考虑符合当前全球经济趋势、员工的心理资本和行为的人力资源实践。

Effect of Solution and Calcination Time on Sol-gel Synthesis of hydroxyapatite

Nano-sized hydroxyapatite(hA)particles were synthesized by sol-gel through water and ethanol based mediums of phosphoric acid(h3PO4)and calcium hydroxide(Ca(Oh)2)at ph=11 for different calcination time(1 h,2 h,4 h).The effects of calcination time and solution on the crystallinity,morphology and impurity phases of the hA nanoparticles were examined via Fourier Transform Infrared(FTIR),Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM),Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy(EDS)and X-ray Diffraction(XRD).It was found that crystallite size and the fraction crystallinity of the synthesized samples increased with calcination *** to solution medium,only CaO as impurity was appeared in the water-based solvent,CaO and Ca(Oh)2 impurities were appeared in the ethanol-based *** lowest crystallinity was 0.92 and the highest crystallinity was 1.73 respectively,depending on the process *** Ca/P atomic ratio closest to the bone was found as *** a result,the employed water-based sol-gel processes for 1 h calcination time was determined as the optimum for the formation of nano-sized hA powders using calcium hydroxide and phosphoric acid.

A number of cutaneous changes are known to occur in the course of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), including pyoderma gangrenosum, erythema nodosum, perianal disease, erythematous eruptions, urticaria, and purpura. however, occurrence of skin manifestations prior to the development of ulcerative colitis is a rare occasion. here, we report a case of ulcerative colitis associated with leukocytoclastic vasculitis in which the intestinal symptoms became overt 8 mo after the development of skin lesions.

Variation of vertical and horizontal drilling rates depending on some rock properties in the marble quarries

The main objective of this study is to determine the rates of vertically and horizontally oriented drilling processes in marble quarries and to observe the factors affecting the drilling rates in terms of physical and mechanical properties of the rocks. In situ drilling tests were performed in different marble quarries with different marble types and drilling times and penetration rates for a series of successive depthincrements were trying to be determined under vertically and horizontally oriented conditions. In order to understand the relation between the parameters that are investigated within the scope of this research, uniaxial compressive strength, Brazilian tensile strength, impact strength, Bohme abrasion strength, P-wave velocity, porosity, unit volume weight, Schmidt hardness index and brittleness index values were correlated with the drilling rates. It was noticed that the porosity and unit volume weight could be taken as the key parameters among them for obtaining meaningful correlation with drilling performance. It was also observed that the physical and mechanical rock properties are more relevant in vertical drilling than horizontal drilling.
