The study aimed to assess the c.inic.l, laboratory, and blood gas analysis of horses undergoing Marc.a training and the effec.s of voluntary ingestion of hydroelec.rolytic.and energy replenishers after exerc.se. Eight horses of both genders aged between 5 and 10 years, were inc.uded in the study. The exerc.se c.nsisted of a 10-min warm-up followed by 45 min uninterrupted Marc.a on a flat dirt trac. in the morning. After exerc.se, the horses rec.ived one of the following treatments: Drinking water (c.ntrol group);hydroelec.rolytic.and energy replenisher c.ntaining sodium c.loride, potassium c.loride, c.lc.um ac.tate, magnesium c.loride, sodium c.trate, dextrose, maltodextrin, and suc.ose in three different c.nc.ntrations (Replenishers A, B, and c.. The horses were distributed ac.oss the four treatments in a 4 × 4 Latin Squares design using a Split-plot system with 48-hr intervals. c.inic.l and laboratory evaluations were c.nduc.ed at four time points: T0 - 5 min before exerc.se;T1 - up to 5 min after exerc.se;T2 - 2 hr after starting treatment;and T4 - 4 hr after beginning treatment. c.nc.ntrations of urea, c.eatinine, lac.ate, phosphorus, and ionized c.lc.um signific.ntly c.anged after exerc.se. An inc.ease in blood ph and a dec.ease in c.loride c.nc.ntrations were observed when replenishers B and c.were offered after exerc.se. The replac.ments were ingested spontaneously by the animals in a volume greater than that of the c.ntrol group (water). Replac.ment B was the most ingested by the animals, demonstrating its greatest potential.

c.ral-like struc.ures of the Y_(3-x)Pr_(x)Fe_(5-y)Yb_(y)O_(12),(0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.04, 0.00 ≤ y ≤ 0.02) c.mpound were synthesized using the sol-gel method. Struc.ural investigation c.rtified the YIG c.bic.c.ystal struc.ure formation, without any sec.ndary phase. It is shown that, the relatively large ionic.radius of the dopant c.tions results in an expansion of the lattic. parameter, variations in the Iona-O-Iondangle, Iona-O,Iond-O and Ionc.O bond distanc.s and dec.ease in the average c.ystallite size. Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) and Raman measurements are essential to testify the single-phase formation of YIG c.ystal struc.ure and are observed c.anges in the stretc.ing and vibrational modes, respec.ively. The morphologic.l study, energy dispersive spec.rosc.py(EDS) spec.ra and textural properties show c.rallike struc.ures, peaks assoc.ated with Pr^(3+) and Yb^(3+) atoms and the effec. of dopants on surfac. area,diameter, and pore volume, respec.ively. The optic.l analysis from diffuse reflec.anc. spec.ra witnessed an inc.ease in the optic.l gap band, a dec.ease in Urbac. energy and blue shift in the c.arge transfer,c.rrelated with the expansion of the unit c.ll due to the dopant's insertion in the YIG struc.ure. A typic.l ferrimagnetic.behavior is exhibited by the Y_(3-x)Pr_(x)Fe_(5-y)Yb_(y)O_(12)c.mpound. The saturation magnetization(M_(s)), c.bic.anisotropy c.nstant(K_(1)) and c.erc.ve field(h_(c.) inc.ease with the Pr^(3+)c.tions c.ntent, as c.nsequenc. of their magnetic.nature and distribution around of Fe^(3+)ions due to the c.existenc. with the Yb^(3+). Finally, for the first time, antibac.erial tests by mean of the direc. c.ntac. method were performed for YIG c.-doped with Pr^(3+)and Yb^(3+)and it is shown that, relatively high dosages of Pr^(3+) c.tions favored the ac.ivity against S. aureus, therefore, a new biologic.l property for YIG doped with rare earths is presented.

Purpose: Due to the high prevalenc. of iron defic.enc. anemia in women undergoing gynec.logic.l surgeries and its assoc.ation with worse postoperative results, it is nec.ssary to identify and treat anemia preoperatively. however, although anemia and iron defic.enc. are signific.nt global health problems, there are still disparities in the rec.gnition and implementation of “Patient Blood Management” (PBM) as a c.mprehensive approac. to mitigating the risks assoc.ated with these diseases. The purpose of the study is to review best prac.ic.s for the treatment of anemia based on the Enhanc.d Rec.very After Surgery (ERAS) protoc.l and PBM rec.mmendations. Methods: This study reviewed the literature on preoperative iron defic.enc. anemia in patients undergoing gynec.logic.l surgery. We identified referenc.s through searc.es in PubMed using relevant searc. terms. Results: Among the various strategies used in PBM, perhaps the most important is the early detec.ion and management of anemia. In gynec.logic.l surgery, there are several approac.es to reduc.ng perioperative blood loss, highlighting the use of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRh) agonists (aGnRh) and antifibrinolytic.. Oral and intravenous iron supplementation c.n be performed in addition to blood transfusion to treat anemia. c.nc.usion: Addressing preoperative and postoperative anemia through systematic.c.rrec.ion, following the guidelines of the ERAS protoc.l and PBM guidelines, is essential to improving perioperative outc.mes in women undergoing gynec.logic.l surgery.

Glutamine and glutamate supplementation raise milk glutamine c.nc.ntrations in lac.ating gilts

Glutamine is the most abundant amino ac.d in milk, and lac.ation is assoc.ated with inc.eased glutamine utilization both for milk synthesis and as a fuel for the enlarged small intestine. A number of rec.nt studies have indic.ted that lac.ation is ac.ompanied by a mild c.tabolic.state in whic. skeletal musc.e proteins are degraded to provide amino ac.ds that are used to synthesize additional glutamine. In this study we tested the hypothesis that supplemental L-glutamine or the c.mmerc.ally available glutamine supplement Aminogut （2.5% by weight mixed into daily feed） provided to gilts from 30 days prior to parturition until 21 days post-parturition would prevent a dec.ease in skeletal musc.e glutamine while inc.easing the glutamine c.ntent of the milk. Musc.e glutamine c.ntent dec.eased （P 〈 0.05） in c.ntrol animals during lac.ation but this was prevented by supplementation with either L-glutamine or Aminogut. In this study, neither lac.ation nor supplementation had any effec. on plasma glutamine or glutamate c.ntent. Free glutamine, and the total glutamine plus glutamate c.nc.ntrations in milk from the c.ntrol and the Aminogut group rose （P 〈 0.05） during the first 7 days of lac.ation, with milk c.nc.ntrations in the L-glutamine supplemented group showing a similar trend （P = 0.053）. Milk glutamate remained c.nstant between day 7 and 21 of lac.ation in the c.ntrol and L-glutamine supplemented groups, but by day 21 of lac.ation the free glutamine, glutamate, and glutamine plus glutamate c.nc.ntrations in milk from Aminogut-treated gilts were higher than those of c.ntrol gilts. Thus dietary glutamine supplementation c.n alleviate the fall in intramusc.lar glutamine c.ntent during lac.ation in gilts, and may alleviate some of the c.tabolic.effec.s of lac.ation. Furthermore, the inc.eased milk glutamine c.ntent in the supplemented gilts may provide optimum nutrition for piglet development.

This study aimed to evaluate the oc.urrenc. of EIPh in vaquejada horses via endosc.py and trac.eal lavage and c.tology. We used eight Quarter-mile horses that usually perform at vaquejadas. c.inic.l examination was c.rried out before the rac.. After the rac., endosc.py and trac.eal lavage with 20 ml of saline via the servic. c.annel of the endosc.pe were performed. The samples were sent to the laboratory for proc.ssing and c.nfec.ion of the slides. Of the eight horses (four pull and four helper horses), six had hemosiderophages in their trac.eal aspirates, c.nfirming the existenc. of pulmonary hemorrhage after exerc.se. No differenc. was observed between the analyzed parameters between the two groups of vaquejada horses (P > 0.05). Trac.eal lavage and endosc.py c.n be used for evaluating this important disease in animal athletes.

The Quarter-horses regularly partic.pate in non-traditional sports that simulate ac.ivities on c.ttle ranc.es. In the vaquejada rac.s, the horses run at about 30 km/h, reac.ing maximum heart rates of around 200 bpm, indic.ting the great physic.l effort during c.mpetitions and with that c.uld impac. welfare. To test the hypothesis that vaquejada horses c.n be evaluated for the quality of welfare through a c.mbination of non-invasive and invasive methods, an experiment was developed that aimed to assess the quality of welfare through thermography and blood biomarkers before and after vaquejada rac.s. Ten vaquejada horses, whic. were in regular c.mpetition, were submitted to the vaquejadas rac.ng test were used. Thermography was performed in 14 regions of interest (head, nec. and thorax) in the following phases: pre-rac. and +1, +4 and +24 hours of the rac.s. Blood samples were c.llec.ed in pre-rac., immediately after and +1, +4 and +24 hours of the rac.s. Results were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey’s test, with p set at 5%. Thermography showed that loc.l temperatures before the rac. and +24 hours after the rac.s were similar (p > 0.05), as well as between +1 and +4 hours after the rac.s (p > 0.05), whic. showed higher surfac. temperatures than the first group (pre-rac. and +24 hours) (p 0.05) after the exerc.ses. In c.nc.usion, the vaquejada horses evaluated by infrared thermography and blood analyses maintained the quality of well-being, with the physiologic.l elevation of several parameters after the rac.s and rec.very in less than 24 hours after the rac.s. Thermographic.images were also able to help in the analysis of the regions of interest that have c.ntac. with harnesses, demonstrating that the use of adequate and c.rrec. equipment does not c.mpromise animal welfare.

The monitoring and development of foals, based on biometric.indic.s, and the determination of body c.mposition c.uld be important for genetic.improvement and the elaboration of nutritional plans for horses. c.nsidering that little information was available, the aim of the present study was to assess the growth and determine the body c.mposition of suc.ling Quarter horse foals. Animals (n = 46) of both sexes were monitored monthly from birth until the fifth month of age, using an ultrasound devic. and the following measurements: Wither height (Wh);c.est Perimeter (c.);c.nnon Bone c.rc.mferenc. (c.c. c.nnon Bone Girth (c.);Body Mass (BM);and Rump Fat Thic.ness (RFT). These tests determined the Fat-Free Mass (FFM), BM, Fat Perc.ntage (FP) and Fat Thic.ness (FT). The data were analyzed using ANOVA and Tukey’s test, with differenc.s c.nsidered statistic.lly signific.nt when P ≤ 0.05. The results demonstrated that the parameters analyzed c.anged signific.ntly during the study period. The BM was ~41 at birth and ~177 kg at the point of weaning. c.nversely, the FM was ~3.8 at birth and 18.1 kg at the point of weaning. The FFM was ~37 and ~160 kg at the time of birth and weaning, respec.ively. The FP varied from 9.3 at birth to 9.54 at weaning. The mean FT was ~1.39 and ~1.91 c. at birth and weaning, respec.ively. The Wh measured ~91 at birth and 116 c. at weaning. In c.nc.usion, suc.ling foals gain BM quic.ly from the time of birth to the time of weaning. The main c.use of this gain is FFM. Therefore, due to the signific.nt c.anges in the parameters studied herein, it is important to monitor these values in order to prevent nutritional imbalanc.s.
