Recycling solid waste in cement-based materials cannot only ease its load on the natural environment but also reduce the carbon emissions of building *** study aims to investigate the effect of recycled glass powder(RGP)on the early-age mechanical properties and autogenous shrinkage of cement pastes,where cement is replaced by 10%,20%and 30%of *** addition,the microstructure and nano-mechanical properties of cement paste with different RGP content and water to binder(W/B)ratio were also evaluated using SEM,MIP and nanoindentation *** results indicate that the early-age autogenous shrinkage decreases with the increase of RGP content and W/B *** the mechanical strength deteriorates due to the addition of RGP,it can be compensated by reducing the W/B *** the addition of RGP increases the total porosity of the hardened paste,it reduces the small size porosity(he proportions of different types of C-S-h are changed,and the volume fraction of porosity is increased,but that of hydration products of cement paste is reduced due to the incorporation of *** its pozzolanic activity,the mitigated shrinkage deformation that RGP is generating in cement pastes is encouraging for its use as a novel supplementary cementitious material that reduces the early-age cracking risk of cement-based ***,the life cycle assessments indicate that the RGP-cement component is an economical and eco-friendly novel engineering material.

Adsorption processes of chlorpyrifos in two Chilean agro soils (Calera: C;San Esteban: SE) in relation with the bioaccumulation in wheat plants (Triticum aestivun) were studied. RP-hPLC method was developed to determine the chlorpyrifos content in soils, roots and seedling tissues. The two soils showed high adsorption capacity (C = 78%, SE = 92%). The values are not in relation with the contents of organic matter (C = 3.9% and SE = 2.0%) and clay (C = 12.7% and SE = 10.1%) determined in the soils. Persistence and mobility of chlorpyrifos in the soils were estimated from halflife values (Csoil = 23 d, SEsoil = 14 d) and the Guss index (Csoil = 0.89, SEsoil = 0.25) respectively. These values are in the range of non-leaching compounds, and suggest that there should be no pollutant in the ground water. Wheat plants grown in both soils incubated with chlorpyrifos bioaccumulate residues in roots and seedling tissues. Root tissues showed the greatest contents (C = 22.3 mg/k. f. wt;SE = 51.8 mg/kg. f. wt.). Germination and growth of wheat young plants were not inhibited for the contents in the tissues. A relation between the levels of chlorpyrifos residues in the soils and the bioaccumulation in wheat tissues was estimated from the BAI parameter. Values showed that the bioaccumulation is dependent on the residues contents in soils. These results suggest that bioavailability of chlorpyrifos in wheat plants may be a harmful pollutant for mammals if it remains stable at all growth stage of the plant. Further research should be considered to see if bioavailability in forage and/or grain can occur.

We propose the usage of formal languages for expressing instances of NP-complete problems for their application in polynomial transformations. The proposed approach, which consists of using formal language theory for polynomial transformations, is more robust, more practical, and faster to apply to real problems than the theory of polynomial transformations. In this paper we propose a methodology for transforming instances between NP-complete problems, which differs from Garey and Johnson's. Unlike most transformations which are used for proving that a problem is NP-complete based on the NP-completeness of another problem, the proposed approach is intended for extrapolating some known characteristics, phenomena, or behaviors from a problem A to another problem B. This extrapolation could be useful for predicting the performance of an algorithm for solving B based on its known performance for problem A, or for taking an algorithm that solves A and adapting it to solve B.

Cirrus Clouds and Multiple Tropopause Events over Buenos Aires

Lidar measurements of midlatitude cirrus clouds over Buenos Aires, collected between 2002 and 2003 are compared with multiple tropopauses (MT) retrieved from rawinsonde temperature retrievals. Results derived from the rawinsondes display MT events with an annual cycle which are fewest in March. Comparison with lidar observations shows that cirrus clouds are mostly located closely below the first tro-popause, but when cloud top is above the first tropopause, in 25% of cases, the cloud base is not above it, resulting in a cirrus cloud crossing the inter-tropopause region. Compared with the distribution of the whole population of midlatitude cirrus clouds, cross-tropopause cirrus clouds display a similar geometrical thick-ness as inter-tropopause cirrus clouds.

AIM： To explore the role of ghrelin in gallstone disease. METhODS： We carried out a cross-sectional study in 150 subjects, 38 with gallstones （cases） and 112 controls. We also did a real-time PCR-RT study in twenty gallbladder samples each. Body mass index （BNI）, serum insulin, ghrelin, and serum lipids were measured. Logistic regression analyses （univariate and multivariate） were conducted to estimate the probability of gallstone disease associated with serum ghrelin concentrations. RESULTS： Cases were statistically different from controls in gender distribution （P = 0.01）, age （53 vs 44 yr, P = 0.002）, BNI （28 vs 25; P = 0.004）, and glucose （5.26 vs 4.98 mmol/L; P = 0.05）. The prevalence of ghrelin serum levels above the third tercile was lower in subjects without metabolic syndrome （P 〈 0.05）. In a multivariate model, we found a protective effect, when ghrelin values were higher than the median value （OR = 0.27, 95%CI 0.09-0.82, P = 0.02）. Twenty （20%） gallbladder specimens expressed ghrelin mRNA. CONCLUSION： Serum ghrelin concentrations are associated with a protective effect of GD.

Purpose:The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of 12 weeks of barefoot running on foot strike patterns,inversion-eversion and foot rotation in long-distance ***:Thirty-one endurance runners with no experience in barefoot running were randomized into a control group and an experimental group who received barefoot *** pre-test and post-test,all subjects ran at low and high self-selected speeds on a *** were collected by systematic observation of lateral and back recordings at 240 ***:McNemar’s test indicated significant changes(p he experimental group at both high and low speed running in foot strike patterns,reducing the percentage of high rearfoot strikers and increasing the number of midfoot strikers.A significant increase(p he foot and a decrease of inversion occurred at comfortable speed in the experimental ***:Twelve weeks of barefoot running,applied progressively,causes significant changes in foot strike pattern with a tendency toward midfoot or forefoot strikes,regardless of running speed and significant changes in foot rotation at low speed,while the inversion was reduced in left foot at low speed with a tendency toward centered strike.
