In this study we show that cylindrospermopsin (a cyanotoxin) content of filaments of Aphanizomenon ovalisporum ILC164 depended on growth on combined nitrogen or nitrogen fixation. Our results also demonstrated that the shift down of cyanobacterial filaments from combined nitrogen to dinitrogen fixing condition resulted in a significant decrease of cylindrospermopsin pool size which resumed a growth rate dependent manner as the heterocyst and nitrogenase formation appeared. The current study indicated that alteration of nitrogen metabolism of Aphanizomenon ovalisporum (Forti) induced changes in cyanotoxin (cylindrospermopsin) metabolism. In addition, this is the first report that isolated heterocysts, the differentiated anaerobic cells for nitrogen fixation of cyanobacteria, did not contain cylindrospermopsin.

Living objects have complex internal and external interactions. The complexity is regulated and controlled by homeostasis, which is the balance of multiple opposing influences. The environmental effects finally guide the self-organized structure. The living systems are open, dynamic structures performing random, stationary, stochastic, self-organizing processes. The self-organizing procedure is defined by the spatial-temporal fractal structure, which is self-similar both in space and time. The system’s complexity appears in its energetics, which tries the most efficient use of the available energies;for that, it organizes various well-connected networks. The controller of environmental relations is the Darwinian selection on a long-time scale. The energetics optimize the healthy processes tuned to the highest efficacy and minimal loss (minimalization of the entropy production). The organism is built up by morphogenetic rules and develops various networks from the genetic level to the organism. The networks have intensive crosstalk and form a balance in the Nash equilibrium, which is the homeostatic state in healthy conditions. Homeostasis may be described as a Nash equilibrium, which ensures energy distribution in a “democratic” way regarding the functions of the parts in the complete system. Cancer radically changes the network system in the organism. Cancer is a network disease. Deviation from healthy networking appears at every level, from genetic (molecular) to cells, tissues, organs, and organisms. The strong proliferation of malignant tissue is the origin of most of the life-threatening processes. The weak side of cancer development is the change of complex information networking in the system, being vulnerable to immune attacks. Cancer cells are masters of adaptation and evade immune surveillance. AIM： To evaluate the gastro-protective effect of capsaicin against the ethanol- and indomethacin （IND）-induced gastric mucosal damage in healthy human subjects. METHODS： The effects of small doses （1-8 μg/mL, 100 mL） of capsaicin on the gastric acid secretion basal acid output （BAO） and its electrolyte concentration, gastric transmucosal potential difference （GTPD）, ethanol- （5 mL 300 mL/L i.g.） and IND- （3×25 mg/d） induced gastric mucosal damage were tested in a randomized, prospective study of 84 healthy human subjects. The possible role of desensitization of capsaicin-sensitive afferents was tested by repeated exposures and during a prolonged treatment. RESULTS： Intragastric application of capsaicin decreased the BAO and enhanced “non-parietal” component, GTPD in a dose-dependent manner. The decrease of GTPD evoked by ethanol was inhibited by the capsaicin application, which was reproducible. Gastric microbleeding induced by IND was inhibited by co-administration with capsaicin, but was not influenced by two weeks pretreatment with a daily capsaicin dose of 3×400μg i.g. CONCLUSION： Capsaicin in low concentration range protects against gastric injuries induced by ethanol or IND, which is attributed to stimulation of the sensory nerve endings.

Optical rectification of femtosecond laser pulses has emerged as the dominant technique for generating single-and few-cycle terahertz(THz)*** advent of the tilted pulse front pumping(TPFP)velocity matching technique,proposed and implemented two decades ago,has ushered in significant advancements of these THz sources,which are pivotal in the realm of THz pump-probe and material control experiments,which need THz pulses with microjoule energies and several hundred kV/cm electric field ***,these THz sources are poised to play a crucial role in the realization of THz-driven particle accelerators,necessitating millijoule-level pulses with tens of MV/cm electric field *** has enabled the efficient velocity matching in lithium niobate crystals renowned for their extraordinary high nonlinear ***,its adaptation to semiconductor THz sources has resulted in a two-hundred-times enhancement in conversion *** this comprehensive review,we present the seminal achievements of the past two *** expound on the conventional TPFP setup,delineate its scaling limits,and elucidate the novel generation TPFP configurations proposed to surmount these constraints,accompanied by their preliminary ***,we provide an in-depth analysis of the THz absorption,refractive index,and nonlinear coefficient spectra of lithium niobate and widely used semiconductors employed as THz generators,which dictate their suitability as THz *** underscore the far-reaching advantages of tilted pulse front pumping,not only for LN and semiconductor-based THz sources but also for selected organic crystal-based sources and Yb-laserpumped GaP sources,previously regarded as velocity-matched in the literature.

Under a first order moment condition on the immigration mechanism,we show that an appropriately scaled supercritical and irreducible multi-type continuous state and continuous time branching process with immigration(CBI process)converges almost *** an x log(x)moment condition on the branching mechanism does not hold,then the limit is *** this x log(x)moment condition holds,then we prove L1 convergence as *** projection of the limit on any left non-Perron eigenvector of the branching mean matrix is ***,in addition,a suitable extra power moment condition on the branching mechanism holds,then we provide the correct scaling for the projection of a CBI process on certain left non-Perron eigenvectors of the branching mean matrix in order to have almost sure and L1 ***,under a second order moment condition on the branching and immigration mechanisms,we prove L2 convergence of an appropriately scaled process and the above-mentioned projections as well.A representation of the limits is also provided under the same moment conditions.

We show that absorbed and stored electromagnetic energy are proportional to the reflection group delay in highly reflective dispersive dielectric mirrors over the high-reflectivity band. Our theoretical considerations are verified by numerical simulations performed on different dielectric mirror structures. The revealed pro- portionality between group delay and absorbed energy sets constraint on the application of ultrabroadband and/or dispersive dielectric mirrors in broadband or widely tunable, high-power laser systems.

AIM:To investigate twenty-year experience evaluated the use of the PolysorbR(an absorbable lactomer)staples for distal pancreatic ***:The data on 150 patients[92 men,58women,mean age 52(24-72)years]who underwent distal pancreatectomy(DP)in the last 20 years were collected prospectively from an electronic *** diagnosis was confirmed by endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography,sonography,computed tomography and/or magnetic resonance *** indications for DP were focal pancreatic necrosis,spontaneous pancreatic fistulas,abscesses,pseudocysts,segmental chronic obstructive pancreatitis in the tail,traumatic disruption,and benign(cystadenomas,insulinomas,or glucagonomas)or malignant *** distal resections were performed without splenectomy in 29 of the 150 patients(19%).In the event of splenectomy,the splenic artery and vein were individually ligated,the TA-55 Auto Suture stapler,loaded with Premium PolysorbR 55 staples(5.5mm),was placed across the gland,and the trigger was pulled,the action of which produced two staggered absorbable suture *** gland distal to the stapler wasthen amputated with a scalpel on the TA-55 stapler and the two rows of staples were left in the proximal pancreatic *** the distal resection,a drainage tube was inserted into the pancreatic ***:The average duration of the operation was150 min(range:90-210 min)and no transfusion was indicated during the *** DP in one patient a type B fistula was diagnosed,which was treated successfully by conservative treatment comprising of 12-d octreotide medication(3×0.1 mg/d)and jejunal *** incidence of postoperative pancreatic fistula was therefore0.6%.Another 2 patients suffered postoperative pancreatitis,which was also conservatively *** were performed in 2 patients on the first or second postoperative day,necessitated by bleeding from the retroperitoneal *** morbidity was 3.3%(5 patients),but no mortality

Microscopic colitis: A retrospective study of clinical presentation in 53 patients

AIM: To evaluate the relationship between symptoms and microscopic colitis (MC) subtypes: to test whether collagenous colitis (CC) and/or lymphocytic colitis (LC)might be related to both constipation and ***: A cohort of patients with independently confirmed typical histopathological changes was investigated. Fifty-three patients with histologically proved MC (46 with CC, 7 with LC) were included. The existence of diarrhea or constipation and the co-existence of autoimmune diseases were also investigated and all data were retrospectively ***: Twenty-three (43.39%) of MC patients had chronic constipation (20 in CC, 3 in LC patients). Twentyfour(45.28%) of MC patients had autoimmune disease and the diagnosis of autoimmune disease was always prior to MC. Sjogren's syndrome was associated only with the constipation ***: The Janus face of MC resembles the subgroups of irritable bowel syndrome. The co-existence of autoimmune diseases and MC is confirmed in both the constipation and diarrhea subgroups.

Seroreactivity against Saccharomyces cerevisiae in patients with Crohn's disease and celiac disease

AIM:To explore whether there was anti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae antibodies (ASCA) positivity in our patients with biopsy-confirmed celiac disease. METHODS:A cohort of patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (42 patients with Crohn's disease and 10 patients with ulcerative colitis) and gluten sensitive enteropathy (16 patients) from Debrecen,Hungary were enrolled in the study. The diagnosis was made using the formally accepted criteria. Perinuclear antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (pANCA) and anti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae antibodies (ASCA), antiendomysium antibodies (EMA),antigliadin antibodies (AGA) and anti human tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTGA) were investigated. RESULTS:The results showed that ASCA positivity occurred not only in Crohn's disease but also in Celiac disease and in these cases both the IgG and IgA type antibodies were proved. CONCLUSION:It is conceivable that ASCA positivity correlates with the (auto-) immune inflammation of small intestines and it is a specific marker of Crohn's disease.
