Snoezelen to Promote Improved Emotional Status in Stroke Caused by Defoliat Exposure in the Vietnam War: Case Study

Objectives: The effects of snoezelen-based therapy on emotional status were investigated in Vietnam War veterans with brain injury suspected to be caused by defoliant exposure. Methods: A single subject A-B-A’-B’ experimental design was used to determine the effects of snoezelen-based therapy. Results: A pegboard test to examine physical changes in a psychologically stable state, showed a decrease in measured time required from pegboard test. In the present study, which used an A-B-A’-B’ research design, the first test showed that the snoezelen reduced tension-anxiety, anger-hostility and depression-dejection while the second test showed similar effects, except for fatigue-inertia and confusion-bewilderment. Conclusion: Snoezelen therapy had a positive effect on emotional stability and cognitive ability in a patient with emotional instability due to combat experience in the Vietnam War and with stroke caused by defoliant exposure.

The paper aims to execute puppet without restrictions by controling puppet using robot. We controling puppet in the same way as the present puppet, but we perform this by robot. It offers more advantages and lessen the weak points. It needs various actions and expressions because of the nature of a puppet. The biggest problem which executes this is the ways to create a system. This thesis proposes motion capture of developed method with solution of this problem. So, we create various contents needed by puppet. In this part, developed method means a mixed method on the basis of optical system and magnetic system used mainly for the present method of motion capture. We lessen the weak points of each method and propoe solution of create motion for pupct by offering more advantages. So we solve difficulties of executing puppet and probable probkans when we execute puppet by using robot. The solution of this thesis is proven by applying control of puppet.

Reactive oxygen signaling regulates numerous biological processes,including stress responses in *** sensors transduce reactive oxygen signals into cellular ***,we present biochemical evidence that a plant quiescin sulfhydryl oxidase homolog(QSOX1)is a redox sensor that negatively regulates plant immunity against a bacterial *** expression level of QSOX1 is inversely correlated with pathogen-induced reactive oxygen species(ROS)***,QSOX1 both senses and regulates ROS levels by interactingn with and mediating redox regulation of S-nitrosoglutathione reductase,which,consistent with previous findings,influences reactive nitrogen-mediated regulation of ROS ***,our data indicate that QSOX1 is a redox sensorthat negatively regulates plant immunity by linking reactive oxygen and reactive nitrogen signaling to limit ROS production.

Short-term overlap lamivudine treatment with adefovir dipivoxil in patients with lamivudine-resistant chronic hepatitis B

AIM： To evaluate the efficacy of short-term overlap lamivudine therapy with adefovir in patients with lamivudine-resistant and naive chronic hepatitis B, we compared patients receiving overlap therapy with those receiving adefovir alone. METHODS： Eighty patients who had received lamivudine treatment for various periods and had a lamivudineo resistant liver function abnormality were enrolled. Forty of these patients received adefovir treatment combined with lamivudine treatment for ≥ 2 mo, while the other 40 received adefovir alone. We assessed the levels of hepatitis B virus （HBV） DNA at 0, 12 and 48 wk and serum alanine aminotransferase （ALT） levels after 0, 12, 24 and 48 wk of adefovir treatment in each group. RESULTS： We found serum ALT became normalized in 72 （87.5%） of the 80 patients, and HBV DNA decreased by ≥ 2 Ioglo copies/mL in 60 （75%） of the 80 patients at the end of a 48-wk treatment. HBV DNA levels were not significantly different between the groups. The improvements in serum ALT were also not significantly different between the two groups. CONCLUSION： These findings suggest short-term overlap lamivudine treatment results in no better virological and biological outcomes than non-overlap adefovir monotherapy.

Dehydrating stresses trigger the accumulation of abscisic acid(ABA),a key plant stress-signaling hormone that activates Snf1-Related Kinases(SnRK2s)to mount adaptive ***,the regulatory circuits that terminate the SnRK2s signal relay after acclimation or post-stress conditions remain to be ***,we show that the desensitization of the ABA signal is achieved by the regulation of OST1(SnRK2.6)protein stability via the E3-ubiquitin ligase *** ABA signal,HOS15-induced degradation of OST1 is inhibited and stabilized OST1 promotes the stress *** the ABA signal terminates,protein phosphatases ABI1/2 promote rapid degradation of OST1 via ***,we found that even in the presence of ABA,OST1 levels are also depleted within hours of ABA signal *** unexpected dynamics of OST1 abundance are then resolved by systematic mathematical modeling,demonstrating a desensitizing feedback loop by which OST1-induced upregulation of ABI1/2 leads to the degradation of *** model illustrates the complex rheostat dynamics underlying the ABA-induced stress response and desensitization.

IEC 61850 allows the replacement of conventional wire based systems to communication based system with local area network. Since new engineering processes are introduced in substation, the specifications and tools are required combined with new skills across the substation engineering. In order to construct the IEC 61850 based substation automation system, the IED engineering tools as an engineering means are necessary to cope with the substation automation by full digital devices in the real power systems. Compared the configuration tools provided IEDs vendors which are able to support the operation and communication analysis between IEDs, the XML based IED integration engineering tools as substation engineering tools which are developed can build, edit and save the ICD, SCL and CID files. Particularly, the substation engineering tools are possible to apply the IEC 61850 based IEDs for the engineering process of systems and also provide the reliability and efficiency of system for the utilities and manufacturers. The developed tools are applied to test and create the SCL files for domestic-made IEDs, and then compared with the conventional tools. The reliability including accuracy of results was proved.

Enhancement in Elastic Modulus of GFRP Bars by Material Hybridization

Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcing bars for concrete structure has been extensively investigated for last two decades and a number of FRP bars are commercially available. However, one of shortcomings of the existing FRP bars is its low elastic modulus, if glass fibers are used (i.e., GFRP). The main objective of this study using the concept of material hybridization is to develop a viable hybrid FRP bar for concrete structures, especially for marine and port con- crete structures. The purposes of hybridization are to increase the elastic modulus of GFRP bar with acceptable tensile strength. Two types of hybrid GFRP bar were considered in the development: GFRP crust with steel core and GFRP bar with steel wires dispersed over the cross-section. Using E-glass fibers and unsaturated polyester resins, the hybrid GFRP bar samples of 13 mm in diameter were pultruded and tested for tensile properties. The effect of hybridization on tensile properties of GFRP bars was evaluated by comparing the results of tensile test with those of non-hybrid GFRP bars. The results of this study indicated that the elastic modulus of the hybrid GFRP bar was increased by up to 270 percent by the material hybridization. The results of the test and the future recommendations are summarized in this paper. To ensure long-term durability of the hybrid GFRP bars in waterfront structure applications, the individual and combined effects of environmental conditions on hybrid GFRP rebar itself as well as on the interface between rebar and concrete should be accessed.

Genevestigator analysis has indicated heat shock induction of transcripts for NADPH-thioredoxin reduc-tase, type C （NTRC） in the light. Here we show overexpression of NTRC in Arabidopsis （NTRC°E） resulting in enhanced tolerance to heat shock, whereas NTRC knockout mutant plants （ntrcl） exhibit a temperature sensitive phenotype. To investigate the underlying mechanism of this phenotype, we analyzed the protein＇s biochemical properties and protein structure. NTRC assembles into homopolymeric structures of varying complexity with functions as a disulfide reductase, a foldase chaperone, and as a holdase chaperone. The multiple functions of NTRC are closely correlated with protein structure.. Complexes of higher molecular weight （HMW） showed stronger activity as a holdase chaperone, while low molecular weight （LMW） species exhibited weaker holdase chaperone activity but stronger disulfide reductase and fol-dase chaperone activities. Heat shock converted LMW proteins into HMW complexes. Mutations of the two active site Cys residues of NTRC into Ser （C217/454S-NTRC） led to a complete inactivation of its disulfide reductase and foldase chaperone functions, but conferred only a slight decrease in its holdase chaperone function. The overexpression of the mutated C217/454S-NTRC provided Arabidopsis with a similar degree of thermotolerance compared with that of NTRC°E plants. However, after prolonged incubation under heat shock, NTRC°E plants tolerated the stress to a higher degree than C217/454S-NTRC°E plants. The results suggest that the heat shock-mediated holdase chaperone function of NTRC is responsible for the increased thermotolerance of Arabidopsis and the activity is significantly supported by NADPH.
