Analysis of Herbal Medicine Prescriptions for Patients in An Academic Korean Medical Hospital:A Cross Sectional Study of Electronic Medical Records(2010–2013)

Objective： To obtain fundamental information for the standardization of herbal medicine in Korea. Methods： We analyzed the herbal medicine prescription data of patients at the Pusan National University Korean Medicine Hospital from March 2010 to February 2013. We used the Dongui-Bogam （Dong Yi Bao Jian） to classify prescribed herbal medicines. Results： The study revealed that the most frequently prescribed herbal medicine was ‘Liuwei Dihuang Pill （LWDHP, 六味地黄丸）＇ which was used for invigorating ‘Shen （Kidndy）-yin＇. ‘LWDHP＇ was most frequently prescribed to male patients aged 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and 80-89 years, and ‘Xionggui Tiaoxue Decoction （XGTXD, 芎归调血饮）＇ was most frequently prescribed to female patients aged 30-39 and 40-49 years. According to the International Classification of Diseases （ICD） codes,‘Diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue＇ showed the highest prevalence. ‘LWDHP＇ and ＇XGTXD＇ was the most frequently prescribed in categories 5 and 3, respectively. Based on the percentage of prescriptions for each sex, ‘Ziyin Jianghuo Decoction （滋阴降火汤）＇ was prescribed to mainly male patients, and ‘XGTXD＇ with ‘Guima Geban Decoction （桂麻各半汤）＇ were prescribed to mainly female patients. Conclusion： This study analysis successfully determined the frequency of a variety of herbal medicines, and many restorative herbal medicines were identified and frequently administered.

Tandem device architectures offer a route to greatly increase the maximum possible power conversion efficiencies(PCEs)of polymer solar cells,however,the complexity of tandem cell device fabrication(such as selecting bandgaps of the front and back cells,current matching,thickness,and recombination layer optimization)often result in lower PCEs than are observed in single-junction *** this study,we analyze the influence of front cell and back cell bandgaps and use transfer matrix modeling to rationally design and optimize effective tandem solar cell structures before actual device *** approach allows us to estimate tandem device parameters based on known absorption coefficients and open-circuit voltages of different active layer materials and design devices without wasting valuable time and *** this approach,we have investigated a series of wide bandgap,high voltage photovoltaic polymers as front cells in tandem devices with PTB7-Th as a back *** this way,we have been able to demonstrate tandem devices with PCE of up to 12.8%with minimal consumption of valuable photoactive materials in tandem device *** value represents one of the highest PCE values to date for fullerene-based tandem solar cells.

Evaluation of recurrence in gastric carcinoma: Comparison of contrast-enhanced computed tomography and positron emission tomography/computed tomography

AIM To compare the value of contrast-enhanced abdominal computed tomography(CT) and fluorodeoxyglucose(FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography(PET/CT) for detecting gastric carcinoma *** We retrospectively examined data from 2475 patients who underwent both contrast-enhanced abdominal CT and FDG PET/CT for the surveillance of gastric carcinoma curative resection. Patients had an interval of less than 1 mo between their CT and PET/CT scans. Sixty patients who had recurrence were enrolled. Among 1896 patients who did not have recurrence, 60 were selected by simple random sampling. All CT and PET/CT images were reviewed retrospectively by two reviewers blinded to all clinical and pathologic information except curative resection due to gastric carcinoma. RESULTS The pathological stage of the recurrence group was statistically significantly higher than that of the control group(P < 0.001). In the 60 patients who had recurrence, there were 79 recurrent lesions. Fortyfour patients had only one location of recurrence, 13 patients had two locations, and 3 patients had three. In the detection of patient-based overall recurrence, no statistically significant differences existed between the two modalities(P = 0.096). However, for peritoneal carcinomatosis, CT had a statistically significantly higher sensitivity compared to PET/CT(96% vs 50%, P = 0.001). Adenocarcinoma was the most common type of gastric carcinoma. On the pathology-based analysis, CT also had a statistically significantly higher sensitivity compared to PET/CT(98% vs 80%, P = 0.035).CONCLUSION Contrast-enhanced CT was superior to PET/CT in the detection of peritoneal carcinomatosis and pathologic type of adenocarcinoma.

Recognition of walking environments and gait period by surface electromyography

Recognizing and predicting the movement and intention of the wearer in control of an exoskeleton robot is very challenging. It is difficult for exoskeleton robots, which measure and drive human movements, to interact with humans. Therefore, many different types of sensors are needed. When using various sensors, a data design is needed for effective sensing. An electromyographic(EMG) signal can be used to identify intended motion before the actual movement, and the delay time can be shortened via control of the exoskeleton robot. Before using a lower limb exoskeleton to help in walking, the aim of this work is to distinguish the walking environment and gait period using various sensors, including the surface electromyography(sE MG) sensor. For this purpose, a gait experiment was performed on four subjects using the ground reaction force, human–robot interaction force, and position sensors with sEMG sensors. The purpose of this paper is to show progress with the use of sEMG when recognizing walking environments and the gait period with other sensors. For effective data design, we used a combination of sensor types, sEMG sensor locations, and sEMG features. The results obtained using an individual mechanical sensor together with sEMG showed improvement compared to the case of using an individual sensor, and the combination of sEMG and position information showed the best performance in the same number of combinations of three sensors. When four sensor combinations were used, the environment classification accuracy was 96.1%, and the gait period classification accuracy was 97.8%. Vastus medialis(VM) and gastrocnemius(GAS) were the most effective combinations of two muscle types among the five sEMG sensor locations on the legs, and the results were 74.4% in pre-heel contact(preHC) and 71.7% in pre-toe-off(preTO) for environment classification, and 68.0% for gait period classification, when using only the sE MG sensor. Distribution of dinoflagellate cysts in Yellow Sea sediments

To investigate the distribution, abundance, and species composition of dinoflagellate cysts in the Yellow Sea, surface sediment samples were collected at 37 sites, including the Korean dump site. Twenty-one di- noflagellate cyst taxa were identified, with the assemblages dominated mainly by Spiniferites bulloideus, Operculodinium centrocarpum, and cyst of Alexandrium catenella/tarnarense type. A high frequency of O. centrocarpum in the Yellow Sea was observed for the first time, and it is likely that this can be attributed to the dynamics of the Yellow Sea Cold Water Mass and the Changjiang （Yangtze） River runoff. Total cyst concentrations ranged from 23 to 48 442 cysts/g dry weight, and high cyst concentrations were recorded adjacent to the dumping site. This result suggests that anthropogenic activities such as ocean dumping s- timulate the growth of dinoflagellates in the Yellow Sea, which in turn leads to high levels of dinoflagellate cyst production.

Repeat hepatic resection in patients with colorectal liver metastases

AIM:To investigate the survival outcomes of secondaryhepatectomy for recurrent colorectal liver metastases(CRLM).METHODS:From October 1994 to December 2009,patients with CRLM who underwent surgical treatment with curative intent were *** were divided into two groups:patients who underwent primary hepatectomy(Group 1)and those who underwent secondary hepatectomy for recurrent CRLM(Group 2).RESULTS:Survival and prognostic factors were analyzed.A total of 461 patients were included:406patients in Group 1 and 55 patients in Group *** a median 39-mo(range,3-195 mo)follow-up,there was a significant difference between Groups 1 and 2in terms of disease-free survival(P=0.029)although there was no significant difference in overall survival(P=0.206).Secondary hepatectomy was less effective in patients with multiple recurrent CRLM than primary hepatectomy for initial CRLM(P=0.008).Multiple CRLM and radiofrequency ablation therapy were poor prognostic factors of secondary hepatectomy in multivariate Cox regression analysis(P=0.006,P=0.004,respectively).CONCLUSION:Secondary hepatectomy for single recurrent CRLM is as effective as primary surgical treatment for single recurrent ***,secondary hepatectomy for multiple recurrent CRLM is less effective than that for single recurrent CRLM.
